The best isekai ever made is back!! I'm so glad that one of my favourite anime started with a STRONG episode. I feel bad for everyone in this episode! Losing memories is pretty sad. Its worse with Rem since everyone except for Subaru forgot her and she's in coma.

IMO Re:Zero is a good example of how to do "foreshadowing" right (without making things too obvious/predictable).

As a novel reader, I can say that this is just one of the MANY "foreshadowing scenes" in Season 1. (moreover we already have 1-2 scenes in Ep1 of S2 which foreshadow some important things, especially pay attention to Puck and Subaru's interaction).

I hope people remember small details in Season 1, will make things more interesting while watching this season as it'll connect many dots.

This scene is after the white whale battle, look what happened now? Crusch has lost all her memories. You can find so much more depth and meaning to these scenes when you know what's going to happen in future.

The "tragedy" of Re:zero. This show leaves a greater impact on retrospective viewing.

But it shouldn't make sense to the characters. They should be very wary and suspicious of Subaru at this point.

I think you overlooked small details in Season 1.

Due to the "witch miasma" (or "witch scent" as other characters call it) the Witch Authority don't work on Subaru as effectively. So he is able to remember forgotten people and see the "unseen hands". Subaru's reset power is controlled by Satella (Witch of Envy) and Subaru doesn't have much control over it.

In the Mansion arc Subaru was getting killed by Rem because she was suspicious of him. Subaru had this lingering witch scent, and it seemed like he was learning stuff about the mansion (like where pots are kept, etc) too quickly.

Then, well, he had that big fight with Emilia in Ep13
due to their misunderstanding and because he wasn't exactly able to explain his circumstances to her and Emilia couldn't bring herself to blindly believe in him.

Remember her dialogue "I can't understand if you don't explain Subaru. The version of me that lives within you must be amazing, she can understand all your pain and sorrow without even you explaining".

And ofcourse even Crusch was not believing in him later on in Episode 16,19 etc.

So it's not like other characters are blindly believing in him. Ofc they're suspicious. They're just tagging along for their own benefits (Crusch, Wilhelm, Felix etc) because Subaru's "intuition" worked well for them. Emilia now knows that Subaru is on her side as he saved her and confessed to her (she has suffered lot of prejudice and discrimination due to having a striking resemblance to Satella, most people hate her and 99% of their world is against her, so Subaru saying he loves her made her happy). She also knows he has some "secrets", but he cannot tell about to anyone, so she's trying to put her faith on him.

Even so, it's common sense to at least go up to the guy and ask him, "how come you remember Rem?" The anime showed no scenes of the other characters questioning this very simple, yet vital fact, even amongst themselves. If the other characters are wary of Subaru, then the anime is not reinforcing that enough to a point where it's important and affects how they view him.

They're smart enough to figure out that Subaru has some form of connection to Witch cult, given the events of season 1 ("witch scent", him being able to see "unseen hands", him knowing that the Witch Cult will attack, etc). But they also understood that he might have his reasons to not explain to them why or how (he cannot say anything about his "reset power" due to Satella's curse). So they're not prying further on this. (at least not yet, because Subaru having information is benefitting them also).

Soundtrack and direction are top tier as always. Honestly, all I hope is that this Season answer questions about the world and characters from last season and even the OVA's that brought even more questions. I feel the show really need to answer them if they want to create interesting arcs now. It's not that I'm not curious to see what is going to happen on this arc now, I definitely am, but I'm also starting to get a little bit lost in some aspects of the show.
Also, was it just me, or some of the sound design in the fight scenes felt incomplete?

then youre in for a good ride. lots of questions are gonna be answered this season. i dont even know how are they gonna fit all of arc 4 in 25 episodes lol
why am i so well drawn into time travel stories?
do i really have that many regrets?

I thinkg he already explained to them in Episode 19 of S1 that he gets these information from his "metia" (the cell phone he carries around). They have their doubts but its a pretty diplomatic situation (and Subaru has been very helpful to them) so they're not questioning him right now.

Ah, yes. It's been 4 year since I watched Re:Zero Season 1. I am still planning to watch the director's cut so pretty much of the events from the first season are still jumbled in my mind.

The first episode was a great start for me. It continues what it is left during the last episode of Season 1. I like how they portrayed Subaru's suffering. The OST really fits the most of the scenes. The last part though... It's really painful. I'm hoping that they will deliver the story from Light Novel successful, though I haven't still read it.

decent enough start i fairly enjoyed re zero back in 2016 those first arc's and the mystery of the show were great even if it lost a lot of steam in the later half ,and with the cut version ending and the preview of season 2 when it got announced brought me back into the what the hell is going on and i have a good feeling this ride will be wild but i fucking loath the fandom so i most likely im going to be avoiding discussions on it after this since people love to spoil stuff

still don't care about *** after all these years so i hope i don't have to endure those waifu wars all over again every where i go lol

subaru gonna have to suffer a lot before it gets better at least hes on a timeline were they all aren't dead but just memory wiped by some lame ass seven deadliy sinners didn't even remember that was a thing

Awesome start of the continuation! Great introduction to the other Archbishops and kicking off the story well with a catching premise. Subaru now has a goal to restore Rem's name and memories with Emilia backing him up and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds and the hardships that will follow.

Can't wait for next episode. I'm already thirsty for more..

It's been 4 long ass years but it's finally here....

after all that time I have not been spoiled really at all ( I think I know one spoiler, but I don't know the context of it, just saw the picture of one of the light novel illustrations )

I remember I had the immense urge to to continue Re Zero after the anime ended, but I held back and I'm so glad I did. Experiencing Re Zero in anime form as a fresh viewer is amazing

No Rem for the rest of this season which I'm glad, because Emilia needs her time to shine. She did get her own movie which in itself was a masterpiece, but I want to see more of her interacting with Subaru both in good and bad times.

Here's to more Re Zero, one of the best anime ever made !!!!! fuck yea boys

If that is the case then it makes sense but the anime did a rly bad job of portraying that. Especially since the first scene of the show was him and Emilia in the carriage followed by the Rem fight. So naturally when he resets to being in the carriage you assume the Rem fight has yet to happen...

They literally did the whale thing again? lmao

This episode fell flat on its face.

Did I miss something? what makes you think they did the whale thing again? the new starting point of Subaru is after the ending of S01 so every time he dies he will be inside the caravan with Emilia, by this point the whale is already dead.

Anyways, this episode wasn't bad, it was enjoyable and the action scene wasn't that bad either, it could've be better but considering the state the world is right now this is highly unlikely, they aren't Ufotable after all, the animation in this episode was ok but unfortunately it had some wonky moments, it's still passable though but I hope those wonky moments doesn't keep happening in the later episodes.

I hope Subaru isn't as annoying as he was in the 1st season, I'm also interested in the crazy psycho girl that appeared in the first couple of episodes in the 1st season, she's the character that got my attention the most and unfortunately she disappeared in the 1st season, I hope she gets a bigger role in this 2nd season.

Fuck. I was hoping that this season the antagonists would be more intimidating, or at least visually more "scary" (not sure if that's exactly the right word). Betelgeuse was a pretty decent villain, but due only to his writing, and not his character design at all. I'm just hoping that the two villains won't be used for comedic purposes.

Controversial opinion, but the episode was terrible.
The introduction of the Archbishops Gluttony and Pride felt pompous. A guy named Gluttony who incessantly proclaims his gluttony is just downright irritating.

The discussion of alliance dissolution could not get to the point and lollygagged towards its outcome. The discourse was not informative of the plot nor did it develop Crusch's patriotism very well. The exchange between Subaru and Felix and Felix's subsequent apology was prolonged and completely unnecessary even if the point was to spotlight Crusch's fearless and dutiful traits. Furthermore, Crusch's character moment was dull. The dialogue leading up to her moment felt forced and blatant.

The Archbishop of Greed is gorgeous omg

I knew that twist was coming for years but it was still heart-breaking to watch. I can only imagine how devastated the anime-onlys are right now. And dammit, that fucking split-second when Rem's existence was eaten and you can see the "IF" story where she ran away with Subaru and lived a happy life. It's too cruel! ;~;

That final moment at the end where Subaru just broke down and Emilia quietly hugged him from behind, it really reminds you that it's the people around you that can help you out of the darkness of despair.

Good episode, but thought Rem being forgotten again is a little repetitive. I think it would have been interesting to see the consequences of Emilia being forgotten, and how that would have affected Subaru's overall situation. Really looking forward to learning more about the witch's cult, and if they might be somehow connected to Emilia. It kind of seemed it be that way after hearing Felix talk about them.

I posted in the other thread but I want to get my thoughts out on why some of the dialogue didn’t hit how it should hit esp Rem’s hero speech felt redundant and bit corny. I personally didn’t like how the anime handled Rem’s final scene. It could have been way more impactful. The epic fight music on top her speech made it very cheesy. It’s weird because Re:Zero handled dialogue very well I mean stuff like “demonic like a demon” and entirety of ep 18 could have been cheesy dialogue but they were fantastic and flowed well with the show. This time it felt odd.

They didn’t include this line in the anime
It was her inner thought which would have made the speech felt more genuine and less hokey but it was just grunts in the anime.

well that was some watered down garbage.
the reason I never bothered to watch the last episode of s1 came back to haunt me.
I wanted s1 to end where it should have, with subaru nonstop slitting his throat over rem as the screen slowly goes black.
I finally, FINALLY got to see that scene, except it wasn't THAT scene.
he did it once then "oh well better give up lol it doesn't work"
s2 should've started with him still being in that loop.
I'm already super disappointed with this. not looking forward to the constant rem flashbacks to push sales. I guess the rem spinoff ovas will happen now (bundled with the blurays ofc, we need to sell them)

After so long its nice to see Subaru and Emilia again. Emilia though sure has some interesting competition with regards to Subaru though. Im sure that Crusch will project a very different image if she smiles a bit more. The archbishops of Gluttony and Greed sure made quite the dramatic entrance. The damage they wrought on to the alliance sure was grave. Its kinda weird seeing Crusch act like a normal woman and be so formal as well. More than anything this crisis shows well just how much Felix actually cares about master and friend Crusch. Despite the struggle that will it will entail and the cost already taken Its nice to see Crusch remain determined to walk her own path by her own will. Overall a strong first ep that did well in reintroducing the cast while also introducing the first new members of the witch cult that Subaru and co have to face in their quest to stop the cult. Despite the steep odds this time Subaru won't be alone and has many allies that he can count upon to even the odds. The first fight while only brief sure was an epic one.

Dang, I really thought we were going to see Gluttony eat Rem all up on camera, I was all prepared, but looks like he just left the body, I wonder why?
From how he was speaking, I thought for sure he was going to just eat everything, not just name and memories. The White Whale
blasted everything away, her bed, her whole existence, every bit of Rem in that world. This is better than last time at least, Subaru has proof she existed. And why did Ley not eat Crusch's name either?

Not a spoiler.

As Puck explains when somebody is affected by Gluttony's Authority 3 outcomes can happen.

1) You get your memories eaten & lose them
2) You get your name eaten & everyone forget who you are
3) You lose both & fall into coma

Either one or all 3 can happen. We don't know if Lye can control the result, but its likely he can't chose what he consumes hence differing symptoms among the victums

The characters already went thought whole trust issues thing with Subaru in season 1. The know he has some connections to cult, and weird things constantly that happen around he can't explain or know himself. They over look it becasue he proven to be sincere and tells no lies. He's presences has also allow them accomplish their goals and his while saving their lives. Remembering Gluttony's victims wouldn't make them anymore suspicious of he then what he did in S1. they used to him being an exception because he no harm.

If they didn't this entire victory would not have happened at all. Trust the least issue anyone should have with Subaru at this late in the game.
