THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This is episode 23 on Crunchy Roll That was a fantastic episode, it seemed a bit abrupt to start immediately the way it did but they handled this integral part of the story very well. I was wary of Kircheis' death being handled poorly but the emotional beats were spot on. Oberstein came off as cold and calculating as ever. Having Hilda make an appearance again was nice, we really need more of her. And that ending narration leading Reinhard back to the Free Planets Alliance to face off against Yang has me stoked for the next episode. |

oberstein jumping in between ansbach and reinhard was ova-original, but such a small detail still did a lot for his character. dunno why they couldn't have put that in like 5 frames or something. all the best parts were still preserved tho, right down to reinhard's heartbreaking denial i still have a soft spot for the narrator, but i can't help but like him less and less. the time that was spent on the narrator talking about how reinhard felt could've been better conveyed through lengthening his thoughts and actions on the flagship that were barely even shown here |

Oh wow. I expected this to happen eventually, but not so soon and all of a sudden. This was really tough to watch :( To make matters worse for Reinhard, he also lost his sister. The starved beast in him is fully unleashed now. |

God tier episode. They really did justice that part of the series. Also, it was about time to see Oberstein being much more active too. Reinhard now lost both his childhood friend and his sister. Mamoru Miyano's voice acting here was simply top-notch to say the least. |

A truly fantastic episode, probably one of my favorites out of the new remake. Only one more episode left, I hope S3 will get announced in the near future, as the story and the pace starts to pick up and we get deeper into the juicy parts |

Some minor changes compared to the OVA which kinda bugged me, mostly revolving around Oberstein, but in terms of exposition, it's solidly better than the OVA and damn the music used in this one is really good as well, it sure makes the Empire feel really hyped whenever they are getting shit done. Oberstein is still Gawd in this episode tho, how he multitasking shit between directing the bois to Odin and send a slap of reality to Reinhard was well executed. Other than that, Mariendof is such a hotty even tho it was only a brief moment LOL. |

I already know what will happen, but this still struck me T_T (not as bad as the OVA does) THE REST OF THE SERIES WOULD BE BETTER IF ONLY KIRCHEIS WERE HERE Btw, #ObersteinDidNothingWrong I don't really remember, but does Reinhardt asked Annerose whether she love Kircheis or not like this? I need more Hilda :( I really love when Reinhardt told Reuenthal that they can usurp him if they want in the future. This can't be a foreshadowing is it? P.s : I thought this episode will be the last one. Pleasantly surprised. |

Can't remember if the OVAs had Reinhard's declaration towards future prospecting usurpers in quite the same circumstances, but he definitely said something to that effect in the OVAs too. That it happens to be said directly to Reuenthal here is indeed foreshadowing. |

Loved the ending to this episode. It was incredibly well constructed Reinhard flags his ship to leave with that lingering shot of him waving his arm.The camera then switches an angle showing the ship changing from behind Reinhardt while the narrator re-contextualizes his grief and how he will cope with losing Kircheis plus his sister by fighting stronger opponents, namely Yang Wen-li. The final shot is the camera slowly pulling out to see his fleet prepare for lightspeed with the episode title fading into the bottom right of the shot. |

Wlep, Kircheis, has just kicked the bucket after saving Reinhart,,,,,,,,,,,,,,man Ansbach should have just planted an explosive device in Braunschweig's coffin that would be capable enough to cause large explosion to kill alotta Reinhart's officers and Reinhart as well. With, Krcheis's death Reinhart was inconsolable and it looks like Oberstein may have some ulterior motives , cu'z why would he want them admiral to kill Marquis Licthenlade went he already made a deal with Reinhart??? Welp, it's back to the business of kicking them Free Planets Alliance's ass fro Reinhard. |

Horn_dawg_2019 said: have some ulterior motives , cu'z why would he want them admiral to kill Marquis Licthenlade went he already made a deal with Reinhart??? Political alliances are fickle things. Reinhard's ultimate goal was using the power struggle to seize power himself, as an outsider. This would have been impossible with Lichtenlade positioning himself as regent and would have just led to another power struggle down the line. Pre-empting it and striking him down early was the ideal move, and killing his male relatives prevented an easy figurehead from showing up and rallying the dissatisfied nobility. Still, I'm not a huge fan of what he's doing. But it does come with the territory of being both an absolute monarchy and, to a degree, a meritocracy. |

I liked how in the OVA they had Oberstein jump in front of Reinhard when the weapon was aimed at him. I missed that here. It was still a powerful scene overall though. It sure is lonely at the top for Reinhard now, but sadly, he's only reaping what he's sown. |

Good episode, but the "just not as good as the original" feeling is back. I wasnt ready for Kircheis to die again, especially so soon (this is just the second season after all). With the fast pacing of Westerland I knew this was coming soon, but I really missed more inside there already. It had way more time to settle in the original. I guess this is the downside of having this show as movies, the pacing gets too fast. Overall it was still good, it was a small climax and emotional moment after all and the voice acting was there as well. Good to see Hilda again, she really needs more screentime. She will be that important later anyway. Looking forward for more though and I hope we wont have to wait a year again. I really want to binge the original now, but that would completely ruin this adaption. |

As someone who hasn't seen nor read the original series, MANNN that hit me hard. I've always adored Kircheis as a character and I felt that he was needed as both a buffer and emotional bumper for Reinhard to continue his ambitions. Which begs the question to what just transpired in this episode. Why was Kircheis revoked of his privilege to carry his weapon in at this particular time? Why did no one notice that Ansbach had placed a ROCKET LAUNCHER, right next to his deceased lord or did someone allow it to slip in? I've noticed (and greatly appreciate) that you guys mentioned that Oberstein jumped in between to save Reinhard in the ova but why do I feel like someone on the inside is conspiring against Reinhard? P/S: I might be overthinking this, but to those with knowledge, just clarify whether I'm overthinking this or I'm going somewhere with this. |

Wow, that was sad. I can't remember when I felt the loss of a character this hard. Now we have a very good reason for why Reinhard would go to war with the free planets, which I imagine he wouldn't have done otherwise. But why did his sister treat him like that, right after he had lost his close friend? Why distance herself from him right then? And what did her look mean when he asked her whether she loved Kircheis? Was that a yes or a no? Can't imagine Reinhard without Kircheis. Zeurivar said: Why did no one notice that Ansbach had placed a ROCKET LAUNCHER, right next to his deceased lord or did someone allow it to slip in? YES. What the hell? Well, I guess it can be explained with technology in such-and-such manner. It was built in, they had a high-tech way to hide it, and it came out when he punched the right code. Of course, rockets from rocket launchers don't activate at less than sixty meters or so, but all stories ever ignore that. And here it could be justified, as the officer could expect to have to aim it at a shorter distance. The guards should have shot him immediately, though. Never mind. They needed a way for Kircheis to die saving Reinhard. I can accept it. Good to hear that Oberstein put himself between Reinhard and the rocket launcher in the original story. I have always wondered just how loyal he is, but now we know. He is ready to die for Reinhard and his mission. |

yeah the bazooka was a wtf moment, i guess it could be excused with sci fi tech so it doesnt bother me, the death scene an Reinhards reaction though was some brilliant stuff, this remake is the the same level as the original OVA imo, the only thing it lacks is a Symphony 9 Dvorak playing in the background of a massive space battle TLDR Oberstein did nothing wrong |

Reinhard killing the mans of over 10 years of the Liechtland family was very brutal, considering Liechtland only helped him so far, that was the opposite of Yang Wen-Li when he says that a live should not be taken because of a future threat, that shows that the death of Kircheis changed him alot, i hope he don't become a new Rudof. Also that war of Empire-Alliance is only good for the Fezzan Dominion, i want to see what Adrian will do in the next episodes :D |
