| I like Hawk and most other mascot animal characters. They're usually fun and provide comedic relief. But yeah lot of people hate them. The cat from Aria is another pet I see getting a lot of hate for some reason. I don't expect my pet to have a great impact on what direction my life takes, so I don't really expect those pet characters to be plot relevant either. But if you have to have them actually do plot-relevant stuff there's still options, like Happy from Fairy Tail or arguably even Chopper from One Piece. Or Iggy from JoJo. Now that I think about it, this really just seems to be another battle shounen trope xD |

| Kero from CardCaptor Sakura and Madara/Nyanko Sensei from Natsume Yuujunchou are the most relevant pets that I can think of in any show I've seen so far with both of them being co-protagonists and mentors to the MC. The mascot that annoys me the most without a doubt is Puck from Berserk but I wouldn't call him irrelevant to the story or useless, just... annoying. |

| Most relevant one to the story I can think of is Saito the dog yo though actually it might be Harumi Kazuhito who is the most relevant because unlike Saito he is the main main character of the show |

| anyone saying all animal sidekicks are annoying pests - or battle shounen exclusive - should feel ashamed. Teto - cute, adds to Nausicaä's character :  cute, smart, funny, relevant: Jiji:  even more relevant - whenever it's the cats' turn, it gets all philosophical, and funny: all the cats in Sketchbook: Full Color'S representative for all of them, the smartestwisest one (and voiced by Itou Shizuka :D ) : Haa  ------------------------ here, relevant = remove them from the anime, and it noticeably looses quality. |
