I bought BOTW, Played it for 10 minutes.... and then went back to playing Splatoon 2.

For some reason, and I have tried many entries in the franchise, I can never get into it. People said this one was different. And I guess it is.... but I would pretty much rather play original Zelda than BOTW. And that is what it is reminding me of.... a better game....

Original Zelda is the Zelda game I have gotten the furthest in... I still didn't beat it, but, it is also the game I have the most playtime for of any zelda game, which isn't saying much.... because I drop Zelda games always with in the first 3 hours. And I have played every mainline game other than the one just before this one on Wii.

I don't really know what it is about the series I don't like.... I love the music, the character design. The lore. But for the most part, I really don't find it fun to play. Or rewarding.... and I get lost constantly. And have no idea what I am supposed to be doing. And the reason I like original Zelda a little more is maybe because the way I play is much clearer... ?

Because I suck at games?

I mean I figured that already. But really maybe it is just that I don't like more western feeling games. I don't like a lot of western RPGs. The way they flow is so bland.

I would rather have something like Tetris where it is just more apparent what I am supposed to be doing. It is more fast fun and engaging.

I guess I don't understand how this franchise makes everyone's number one when I have a lot more fun playing other games. The music and character design are nice though. The world is pretty.... I just do not care about it. Maybe it is because I didn't grow up with Zelda and grew up with Ape Escape....

Nah I'm the same, I bought Animal Crossing for 3DS because of the hype, played it for a couple of hours before I was bored. Traded it in for A Link Between Worlds and gave it a good go, probably about ~8 hours of gameplay before I had to admit to myself that I just didn't like it.

I wish I did like those kinda games because a lot of my friends love them and they're all they ever talk about, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The same thing happened to me with Animal Crossing.

I really wish I could love the games my friends love. They seem so happy. I am glad for them.

I'm kinda torn on how much I like Zelda myself. I like the exploration aspects, but am not really interested in things like platforming or clearing dungeons. Just let me do all the interesting side quests and I'll be happy.

Maybe you just don't like the genre?

I'd say try the game some more. BoTW is different to other Zelda games. After a couple of hours you'll leave the grand plateau and the game becomes all about the freedom to explore. If you still don't like it then sell the game and play something else

ok well im going to put my opinions aside for a moment

but its really if you enjoy the type of game or not if you dont like puzzles or exploring your not going to find it fun i had the same problem with my brother he brought BotW for his Switch he didnt get very far he got in a hissy fit because the torch when out because it was raining then he stoped playing it but now hes started again yesterday

but if you tryed the games and dont like them thats your opinion just because somethings popular dont meen you have to like it like for example Splatoon is popular but i dont like it

I could never really get into the 3D Zelda games. OoT was okay, but heavily overrated, and I didn't like Twilight Princess at all. Also, while I prefer 2D Zelda, I didn't really like the NES Zelda games that much, and I didn't like Link's Awakening either. It was too easy to get lost in those games.

It's kinda like with Metroid. Super Metroid is awesome, but the original Metroid on the NES hasn't aged well, because it's basically a maze, where most of the rooms all look the same when you first enter them, and there's no map either.

LoZ as a whole, is heavily overrated. Just because something is extremely popular, doesn't mean that it's good. Look at all the people who love Star Wars. I hate Star Wars.

Based off of this, I am inclined to believe that most open world games are not really for you. I mean, there are still clear objectives ("defeat ganon/awaken the divine beasts) but the beauty of Breath of the Wild lies in getting sidetracked while trying to complete your first objective. You may want to play a more linear Zelda, like Ocarina of Time, or Windwaker - or rather I would, but you've dropped every Zelda game 3 hours or less.

All I can really say is Zelda just isn't for you - or you have a short attention span. Perhaps you would like games with clear objective markers on the map.

Is it the non linear aspect of them, and having to figure out what to do rather than the goal always being clear and straightforward? Maybe you dont feel the sense of progression?

I doubt youve played it but id like to hear your thoughts on Star Tropics.

No sense in trying to force yoruself on games, the whole point is for you to relax and be entertained.

If I ever feel like I'm not enjoying or straining myself in a game I just drop it and move on to something else.

I think, just because a franchise is loved by its fanbase is no guarantee that you will like it. Its kinda unrelated , but I have friends who watch these youtubers with millions of subs and i cant even mildly be entertained by them at all.

I'm more of a straitforward gamer myself. I tend to get lost/bored in the open world games , i usually play JRPG or games with concentrated plots, you know what your doing/where your going, have journal entries/reminders of what to do. Some people prefer the challenge and hate being guided along..

In all honesty, the only Zelda game I truly enjoyed was Twillight Princess.

I didn't even like Twilight princess. I think the closest I had to fun with a Zelda game was The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. Which is the game I got the furthest in.

Yeah I love Pokemon. Very easy to navigate, a collectathon, 100+ hours of gameplay despite being a very point a to point be press A to win kind of game.

I don't like FPS... I am really really bad at them and hate that muddy, everything looks the same COD/Skyrim look. You know... like Zelda looks to me. I think even stuff like the newer Tomb Raider and even Last of us has this disgusting look to it that makes me pull away from it. Also hard to navigate or shoot in those games and you die a lot and that is just not fun. I hate resource managing unless I am playing an RTS.... and RTS is one of my favorite kind of games. Top down, managing a city no people.

I would say games with no human characters often rank higher in my favorite games but so do tactical games like Fire Emblem. I like my shit turnbased. Action games normally look like shit unless they are Splatoon. My favorite game of all time is Katamari Damacy. Sadly, the franchise is dying a slow death on mobile. Sad.

Splatoon is the first shooter muliplayer game I have liked and it is a third person arena shooter... but nice try. But a no plot game where the mechanic is the star like Tetris is my preferred jam. So you are right on that. If the gameplay isn't fun, then the game sucks regardless of story and characters. I could just... watch someone else play it, and kinda prefer it be a movie... like Metal Gear.

I don't play many multiplayer games. I enjoy a single player experience where things are easy to navigate.

Think of how Katamari Damacy is my favorite game of all time. And how I prefer a game like Jet Set Radio to most things.... or Digimon World. I loved Catherine, Hatoful Boyfriend, Klonoa franchise, Lucky Luke and Rhapsody a Musical Adventure. I wish every day for TimeSplitters to come back as far as a shooter game goes. And I am eagerly awaiting the Burnout Remaster.

Maybe you are the kind of person who actually wants to beat GTA.... meanwhile I dick around in Saints Row 2 and just have fun playing dress up.... and in GTA I went dancing and helped people in the ambulance. And in Oblivion I wandered aimlessly and picked flowers... I basically lose all direction in these kinds of games and just.... don't do the quests because usually I become frustrated and can't remember what the quest was or forgot who I was even supposed to talk to.

I mean maybe you guys like the gameplay of Minecraft over and over again, but I already got that with earlier entries in the GTA franchise and I just.... have no desire to eat+toilet+survive people trying to kill me.

I have played enough of these games to know that people are well, overly impressed by them like my husband who is closer to the common audience as he does play shooters like Battlefield and Seige and he LOVES Zelda. and actually it is the FPS mindless drone crowed who praises Zelda every damn time. Zelda isn't popular in Japan despite being a Japanese game. And I stupidly forget that pretty much everytime my friends get so hyped. But this time, it was more because my husband wanted to play it that I bought it and people say it is different and shakes up the franchise but I don't see it because I still don't like it. Zelda has always been an open world action adventure game but oh hoho! Now Link can jump and totally makes the game different. :/ Than all the other open world games where you can jump cook stuff... and collect random crap for no reasons....

Meanwhile in Digimon, you are collecting the random crap for your digimon. So it makes more sense why you collect the random crap.... Feeding digimon is more satisfying that feeding myself.

BOTW is a bad place to start, prior to it's release, Majora's Mask was the worst place to start. The best places to start are Ocarina (even though I don't really care for it myself, the nostalgia goggles wore off long ago), Windwaker or Twilight Princess (my personal favorite).

Better yet, just play Nier Automata, which only lost best RPG at TGA because it was up against Zelda.

What if you tried all of them except the Wii game because they were all available on the Wii U.... ? Visually I the the design of LttP and Majora's Mask best. thematically Majora wins, and Windwaker was way better than OoT. But after figuring out day one activities, I quit. OoT I quit before I could even leave the first town because I couldn't find the Sword/Shield so I could leave. Windwaker I quit shortly after leaving the first island because they asked me to find something and I didn't know where to go, I also failed so bad at doing the windwaker part, I was laughed at so it really made me not want to even try to play anymore. In LttP I quit when I wasn't allowed to say no to Zelda. Twilight Princess I quit in the forest which I kept dying in. The original, I found some of the triforce pieces but quit mostly because I was going in circles. Oracle of Seasons (3DS virtual) I can't tell you which part exactly I quit at because it was basically day 2 of playing and I forgot what they told me to do when I saved and they wouldn't remind me. So I quit. Attempt 2 on OoT my friend found the sword for me, and then I quit because the first boss was a giant spider and I was like "fuck this shit I'm out!" because it freaked me out and there was no way I was playing that. (It also doesn't help that the entire dungeon was filled with spider creatures and my friend kept laughing at how inept I am at aiming or attacking anything)

Oh I forgot one I played. Links Crossbow Training.... I did like that one.

My husband laughed at me because I lost all my weapons in BOTW.... so I just.... don't want to play anymore.

The only reason why I got as far as I did in Xenoblade 2 was because I had no idea how awful I was playing. But I found out from a reviewer you were supposed to be timing your attacks and.... pretty much haven't touched the game since.

I never played any other Zelda game besides Breath of the Wild and some nes type game on the gameboy advanced.

That said, when playing BOTW.. It doesn't hold your hand. It's up to you to figure out how to complete all of the puzzles, and solve any mysteries you encounter.. and when to do such things. There's no rush. Just explore and have fun.

Even if the everyone has played it and found it fun doesn't necessarily guarantee that you'll enjoy it too. There's not much explaining needed.
Well if you get lost constantly and get bored then exploration games aren't for you, maybe try more themepark/linear based games.

BOTW gets a lot better once you get to the actual dungeons. Sounds like you just need to rev your engine up about it a little bit. Once you complete a Zelda game it's always a really nice memory looking back.

I honestly think BOTW wasn't very good of a zelda game, and as a overall game it was alright but nothing amazing. BOTW is usually the game a lot of first timers have played, so they don't have any other zelda game to compare it to. I didn't find it a good zelda game at all, and I wouldn't say it's the definite game to get you into the series.

I would suggest ocarina of time and majoras mask which has 100 times the charm of BOTW. If you don't like it after that, then it's just not for you man and that's how it is. I never liked persona despite playing 4 and 5. I just accepted it wasn't for me.

Many Zelda stories have a lot of the typical high fantasy cliches, yet they are charming in this games, because it's about the feeling of adventure.
The story and Link and almost all versions of Zelda as a character are as flat as they can get... Tho the BotW Zelda is my personal darling in the games and the only character I like in the whole franchise.

Maybe that's also a reason why some people can't get into the games.
If you want a better story with a special and darker appeal, Majora's Mask is the way to go.
If you want an adventure, the others, and especially BotW, are the games for you.

The start in BotW is very slow and you should give it at least a few hours to get into the game.

Personally, I can't really get into the 2D Zelda games.

The only Zelda I've really gotten into is BOTW so far. I really like a lot of the nuances and how it ticks a lot of the things I really like in game design (like good non-linear exploration, minimal HUD elements, environmental design, and Link being fun to control).

It's not perfect but I've sunk a lot of time into the game, so I think the 50 dollars I've spent on it has been worth it so far.

It's not for everyone, seeing as how open world games are a bit of a dime a dozen these days as well, so it's in a bit of a saturated market, even if BOTW is a great open world game in my book. Maybe you prefer more linear games that are a little more tightly designed, perhaps?
