anime has always been mediocre, and always will be. there was shit in the 70's. 80;s 90's, 00's, now, and in the future. the only reason there seems to be more shit is because the industry is over saturated, meaning more shows come out and shows have a higher probability of being shit.

what's wrong with that? Does every show need to be "intelligent"

Also, you say you were dissappointed in what you found. If you've come back after many years, of course stuff would change. In different times, there's more of a specific sort of anime being produced.
80's and 90's were filled with gritty action and mecha stuff + a lot of OVA releases. Early 2000's were dominated by battleshounen stuff.
2010-ish the medium started to gravitate towards "cute girls doing cute things" and while that boom is still very much going on, "lately" (last 5 years) light novel adaptations and isekai stuff have been in a massive spotlight.
With all these different kinds of genres being dominant in each times, of course some fans are not happy with what's popular since they probably became a fan because of what was popular when they were first introduced to anime and manga.

edit: to add something, nowadays there's like 1000% more anime produced in general. Of course not everything is gonna be good.

Okay.

People can like what they like, and as far as I know I'm not one of an aspiring producer looking to make a big name in anime world. If you want to bring something new to the table, please do so. Good luck and all the best OP.

Well, the OP linked two videos by Gigguk, who 8 weeks into the season still hasn't noticed the obvious AOTS Yuru Camp, so he brought a good example at least, I'll give him that.

You're right. I take extreme pride in the fact that I have zero standards for what I watch. Whenever I apply to jobs, my resume is just a piece of paper describing every single piece of shit show that I gladly burned into my retinas. Someone asked me out on a date and the first thing I told them was how good I felt watching every episode of Kino "I ain't one for animals myself, but I despise those blasted sheep!" 2017, in order to show the best qualities of myself.

Whenever I load up an episode of Darling in the Franxx, I salute my nippon flag, tears leaking from my eyes, and I think "thank you japan. thank you for providing me with one of the most hellish experiences I can ever obtain. this piece of animated entertainment being so bad is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had watching your shitty cartoons."
every single one of my forum posts is dumb and invalid except for 1, I don't claim them it was a different person it was all fake

what a fucking stupid thread, really

You basically said nothing of value at all, make a point and bring nothing concrete to back it up, and it's obvious you have zero experience and knowledge of the matter at hand.

You can't really judge anything on a shitty youtuber and his circlejerk, these mean nothing about general state of anime and it's enthusiasts.

There's tons of good stuff out there, and tons of crap, and it has always been the case. A whole medium can't possibly become all bad, anime is not an exception.

The real question is did you like FMAB.

tbh I'm in a similar boat and I have 1000+ posts. Anime feels too synthetic nowadays.

If you're going to judge someone based on their post count/# of watched anime then you've already lost, instead argue against what they say, which in this case is clearly also very flawed.

Reasons for disliking modern anime is an endless topic but generally comes down to these categories:

1. You've changed.
2. Anime has changed.
3. Combination of 1 and 2.

This is not the best way to introduce yourself to the community and not the worst either. Well, welcome to MyJCartoonsList.

> So wanting to se something new, i googled, read, informed myself and also watched a lot of top ten videos of the show generally considered to be the best ones and some videos about the latest ones that came out in the past years.

Useless to say that i was really disappointed in what i found: the majority of top tens had the same few old shows over and over and the videos about modern shows were filled with nothing but stuff that looked like an insult to everyone's intelligence.
Did you even try to find anything good? How long did it take you, a minute, or perhaps a second? (Youtube is not really the best source to consult.)

At the same time, I do agree with you that it is rather challenging to find something good now, but it is not impossible. Look at my anime list; I know what I am talking about.

>Judging by those videos, the comments and the ratings of this website given to some of those shows, it looks like people are fine with them while agreeing that they suck, so why do you keep watching them? Why fans of anime don't unite and stop watching them until something is done and Japan acknowledges that we want quality instead of letting them think we are fine with how things are?
You do not really understand one simple fact, people are different and you should deal with that. Some people like Evangelion, other like Darling in the FranXX, and it is totally okay.

You can start writing reviews to recommend other users which shows are worth watching and which are not. This will surely be helpful. Making such threads, however, is not. Yet, it is only my opinion, which is different from yours.

Are you same guy who registered a new account with bebop avatar just to spread the elitist meme a few weeks ago? Seems to be a thing now. Poor Spike, having to get dragged through the mud like that by people with shitty attitudes :/.

I'm just gonna say that any reasonable person would know not to generalize based on a handful of youtube videos, from a non-serious youtuber, and even worse, youtube comments. So you are obviously either not very intelligent and don't realize that simple truth and go through life forming opinions based on third-hand information pre-selected by random people on the internet, or you're trolling/baiting on purpose. I'll give your intelligence the benefit of the doubt and assume it's the latter.

Other things that might be relevant:

1. You not liking a genre/type of show doesn't mean shows from that genre suck.
2. Something being fine but not great, doesn't mean it sucks either. Most shows fall into that category of being just okay but not great, but also not being trash even if people like to think that anything that isn't great, is trash.

The current season is very cute girl heavy so if you're not into that it might seem unappealing. But a lot of the shows are actually pretty good, from Sora Yori to Mitsuboshi Colors, Hakumei to Mikochi or Yuru Camp. Those are all above average if you compare them to similar shows, imo. The season might not have a lot of super exciting bangers like Spring is going to, but the overall quality level still seems pretty decent.

Also at the end of the day having low standards and enjoying stuff and being positive is much preferable to being a toxic prick that shits on everything based on some youtube clips so if I had the choice I'd go with no standards every day of the week, if the alternative is that kind of personality.

Well there isn't an objectively good anime so you just prefere the older stuff there are always different tings that are popular. I myself don't like the current seasons either so I would advice you to just go watch the older stuff there are certainly enough good series among them. Also not everything released today is bad it's just that there are many more series releases overall that might not appeal to you but I personally always found 1/2 shows per season that I enjoyed

Your first mistake is watching random top ten videos and expecting to gauge quality that way. That's like stopping by Cairo International Airport on a connecting flight and thinking you know about Egypt already. Watch better videos.

Your second mistake is not realizing that the two Gigguk videos you linked goes for more comedic value. Gigguk has other videos with more analytical bent.

Like so:

If you want a slightly more serious video about anime in 2017 try Under the Scope's anime awards:

Some bonus UTS vids because I'm already on the webpage and might as well:

I have more anime YouTube vids from other personalities and I'd link them but I'm currently watching VP vs Fnatic and I don't have them bookmarked. Your comeuppance will have to wait. Ciao.

Not sure you two are talking about the same thing?

Taking specific anime seriously or not is one thing, but being 'serious' about anim (and by extension your hobbies, your passions in general) and getting annoyed when people talk bullshit about them or generalize based on shitty youtube videos is a different thing and what I think he was referring to. And I don't get the attitude that it is somehow a bad thing that you care about anime if it's one of your passions and not just treat it like a meme factory that as a whole can't and shouldn't be taken seriously at all. It's like you're not allowed to care or be serious about anything or people will make fun of you. That's a much bigger attitude problem I see in the community than people wanting to take specific shows seriously when they arguably aren't meant to be taken seriously in the first place.

The way a person likes to spend his free time shapes them as a person and also tells a huge amount of stuff about them. Reading books as a hobby gives you lot of benefits such as gaining knowledge and stimulating your fantasy and more, for example. If your hobby if watching creatively poor stuff you are consequentially a dull boring person.

I mean I get that since times change, there might not come out as much stuff of what you like but umm.. Does that mean that you need to watch stuff that's recent? Why not settle on watching the stuff from when you first became a fan? I'm sure there's at least some titles there that you would enjoy.

If these three shows are the only good anime you know, then that says enough about your issue with anime as a whole.

Anime has no standard? More like you have exaggeratedly specific standard? I'm not saying every thing is good, but rather that you don't even try to look for what you may like and you seem to be afraid to watch something more obscure. Since you limited your research to top 10 seasonal anime.

I'm not buying that these 3 anime are the best of the anime industry at all.

Also, you seem to think that your thread may bring something new to the anime community, but actually this sort of thread opens up at least twice per weeks and we are really tired of that.

No. When someone says something disrespects their intelligence it is not saying they are asking for a show to be smart, but to respect them as a viewer.
A show that expects you to love a murder who has killed 50 ppl because she didn't get a cookie from her mother and then treats her like a victim and act nothing is her fault when out of her own volition she picked up a AK-47 that she stole from a guy she has killed to shoot people.
Thats insulting someones intelligence.
Another instance is a show that stated Water negate fire
Then 5 seconds later Water doesn't negate Fire
and the show tells you to never question it because they put themselves in a corner and can't advance the plot without the contrivance.
Sincerely, from Scorpio.

Hahaha, this is the best thing i have ever read when it comes to anime.
U watched some youtubes videos about top 10 animes, I'm sorry but the world dosent work like that.

If u search after top 10 animes on google/utube or where u are searching u will just find alot of shit after shit.

If u want to watch good old animes u shoud go into a elite group on facebook etc Anime Tea-Drinking Club. Where ppl praise what is good and not what is a shit.

Each season something good it comes out, I'm a big fking casual but I do watch everything that i can watch everything from hentai to 80s anime to the newest anime.

Alot of ppl is just watching shit and becomes stupid thx to this. They can't understand anything, only that SAO is the best anime ever made. Or ecchi, harem is something god created and can't lose to anything.

Give me a friendrequest if u want some tips on what to watch. Even if im the biggest casual out there. I'm not stupid enough to praise something that is bad or join a Sword Art Online cult to take over the world.

Im in a group on facebook that is called KAC. Alot of ppl in there only watch the new stuff and dont care about anything else. If u do say that show is bad, a new World War starts. Thats how the world works atm. Best thing is to ignor the ppl u think is stupid and try to find a group somewhere were u can talk and ask ppl for recommendation tjat works for you

OP, you depict yourself like some sort of super-intellectual hyper pretentious all-knowing elitist but yet you compare cartoons mainly aimed to young boys to reading philosophy books.

How many chances there are that you picked those three shows in your list only because nobody can't attack them and not because you like them?

Nice Dual account. Also congrats on discovering the eternal truth that the masses are asses and you need to do your own research and form your own opinions on stuff.

what's wrong with that? Does every show need to be "intelligent"

Also, you say you were dissappointed in what you found. If you've come back after many years, of course stuff would change. In different times, there's more of a specific sort of anime being produced.

I see. I don't know if these examples are from real shows or just examples you made on the spot since I don't recognize them.

But well, if a show does that kind of thing, does it still mean that it is insulting your intelligence as a viewer? If a show expects you to love a murderer who has been presented in such a way, I would find that pretty weird. I have never seen a show where the show expects you to love a character that's been made to seen as a horrible character.

For the fire/water one, that's just bad plot point. I don't see how that disrespects your intelligence. It's a badly thought out thing and that's that.

I don't even know what would count as "disrespecting" or "insulting" your intelligence. At least for one, I have never come across any show that would insult my intelligence. I mean, I haven't felt that any show has insulted my intelligence.
Do you perhaps have a suggestion of a show that disrespects your intelligence and would you recommend it to me so I could experience it so I could have a little bit more material to argue with.

How can nobody attack them? They are not flawless.
