This show has a lot of sexual stuff in it, and it doesn't really mean anything in the series. Same with the violence, there's a lot of it, but it doesn't really have any impact. After the first episode, all the sexual stuff in the show doesn't make me think "oh whoa ho ho what is this" because it's just par for the course, and most of the time I'm not a fan. Stuff like Akira sexualizing Miki in his head, the sex scene with Silene, and this weird out of nowhere rapemurder with Miko (lowkey hot tbh) was distasteful in my eyes. Compared to regular sex imagery everywhere or stuff like the gay dude rapemurder which feels more in groove with the show.
.

A lot of the other stuff you said was debatable, but this part I feel is evidence you just did not understand the point of the story. It was not a perfect representation of the original story (and in fact a lot of that stuff was added in) but even so, it mostly fit with the original ideas.

I'd suggest reading the manga to see if it affects your opinion any, I'm coming at this as being really grateful the manga gets this complete adaptation after over 40 years. And even an imperfect adaptation of it which is really from a director who's style was in many ways a distraction and didn't really enhance much of it (but at least he kept mainly focused on the point, the last couple of episodes did pretty much nail it) is so much better than the meaningless ball of moe anime has largely become today.

The reason I still give it 10/10 despite some dissatisfaction with certain elements is it got the most important scenes right, and Devilman was built around these key scenes. Also the soundtrack I thought was really good, could have done without any rapping. Like any rapping in anything ever. :p

they fucked up all way through, from the beginning to the end. Changed events, order of events and the consequences... The ending was exposition bomb in its fullest, things that should be said in the beginning was said in the end.

I will still wait for a better devilman anime, good thing that we had C009vsDM some years ago.
EH... but the 3rd devilman ova wasnt even any good, it completely ruined the direction towards the springing of THE FEELS no mater how good the 1st ova did the satisfaction of a faithful adaption of the manga was never there so to think that we this time actually did get an adaption that DID bring these feels out that you could find in the manga satisfies me alot even though i did see the animation as dull at first and some characters were new or different. changes thankfully doesnt always kill something thats originally good completely.

If by "3rd OVA," you mean Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman, that OVA is a separate adaptation that has nothing to do with the previous OVAs. In fact, it's not even based on the manga, it's vaguely based on a spin off manga called Amon: The Darkside of Deviman.

Overall it's a good OVA if you're looking for cool fights, but it doesn't have much of a story, but it was never about that to begin with.

Oh I liked that they were 3 dimensional characters in the end, but I wouldn't say the rap did it so much as just showing they're not assholes.

Must say I loved the series, but this ending really doesn't do it for me. Feels way to rushed with loads of unexplained things.
I mean do these devilmen only fight back once 99% of the earth is destroyed? What the hell were those facilities where humans experimented on devilmen?
Overall still a great show. 8/10

What can I say, that's really not my type of anime, it was somehow entertaining but by the end it felt pointless. I feel kinda bad.

So glad to see this get a full adaptation. I wish there was like maybe 2 or 3 episodes to flesh out the side demon characters a bit more like Psycho Jenny and Akira's Devilman army and the human experimenting adn shit. I don't remember if Miko was a character from the manga, but I liked her for the most part and I wish she could have stuck around. I have to say... the Jinmen and Silene fights could have been better. They felt a little rushed. I liked the whole 100 meter sprint relay thing, it was a good metaphor and gave the series more thematic depth. Yeah I think this hit all the right notes; it wasn't perfect but its close enough and its really great to see Yuasa do something similar to Kemonozume, which is my favorite Yuasa work. So yeah 9/10

Just finished this show and it was much better than I expected (maybe cuz I expected it to be really really bad) in the first episodes I didn't like that sexualized content sometimes it looked like unnecessary mild-porno scenes but later there was more and more meaning and thematic content in the whole show and it ended better than it started.
Btw I am only one who see similarities with Clamp's X/1999 manga?

There's a blog post review of X/1999 mentioning that the manga was inspired by Devilman.

I watch for gay relation ship (and thanks satan I get what I want, they feature both male-male and female-female) still the violence nature (due to its original manga) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There are many interesting things (like rappers, politically corrected, anti-war theme, big bulge! fanservice) though. In conclusion it's not bad that I change pace to watch heavily violence anime for a while, but after this I'll go watch Sanrio Boys.

As for the experimenting... All of humanity is lost and some of the last scientists on earth decide to experiment/torture their only allies.

Look I understand it's all in the manga and stuff but either flesh it out or don't adapt it.

Oh, come on. That was hinted in that "instagram" (or something) moment. They teamed up because of Akira and when they were together. Solo devilmen would easily die (Miko, for example), ffs. So, they would not affect anything. And how could they cooperate in mid-war otherwise? Akira just brought courage to them.

ALLIES? really? At that point, why would they think, that they were their allies?
And what could they do, fight back? Was there any chance of winning? Obviously not. At least, experiments are a bit more plausible.

I do love the show, but I think it should have been 13 episodes. A few more episodes would have help the plot because I felt like some good scenes from the manga got skip over. I do think some of the sexual stuff was a bit pointless at times. Even the manga didn't had sex in it. This was almost like if Yuasa was directing Urotsukidoji instead.

Well I consider the 1972 manga the original version and its depressing, dark and with the same apocalypse ending as this 2018 anime. The 1972 TV series is like a parody.

You got it wrong. Devilman wasn't going for some Evangelion ending, Evangelion went for a Devilman-like ending. End of Evangelion's main inspiration was the 1972 manga of Devilman, and Crybaby's ending was the same at the manga. The 1972 anime was just a family-friendly retelling of the Devilman story. The anime was intended for children, while the manga was aimed for an older audience, with its moral conflicts and anti-war/humanity-related themes.

Honestly, I thought that this was heading towards a happy ending but when I saw the rap bros all get killed followed by Miko/Miki and then Miki's death and her head on a spike.....I just lost it

Seeing her parents and brother get killed was one thing but this was just depressing af and now I understand why Berserk and NGL are the way they are....The influences in those series are remarkable

Overall though, I loved this, and I'm impressed by how philosophical and deep that this show turned thematically and symbolically especially during the last 3 eps and most of all in the finale

Very good overall, although def not my favorite from Yuasa. Art and themes (at least the first half) were very reminiscent of Kemonozume. Can tell he pulled a bit from there; or rather Kemonozume pulled from Devilman to begin with.

Devilman's ending is far better than End of Evangelion (man I hate people bringing that shit up, the whole thing sucked), and literally about the only thing they have in common is everybody dies, but there is no other comparison because one ending said something and the other really did not.

Devilman's ending very much had a point; the manga did make it a little better. But if you look at the story as about Ryo, or his real identity, the story being about Satan, and you consider the biblical themes that Nagai drew from, the story is about the dark impulses of humanity that find expression through those things, and the regret and sadness it causes.

As for why people think Death Note has any positives to it, like at all, always mystifies me.

I liked it, I don't think it was a bad adaptation but neither great, it was... fine.

I liked how the anime gave more characterization and importance to the side character like the demons he fought (especially Silene and Kaim), the Miki-Miko rivalry and the mall incident. I liked the more fleshed out ending even though there's a part missing/changed. Some of the comedic scenes were really nice like the guy listening to music getting run over or the coach eating that fly and transforming.

I didn't mind the modernization nor the change of events but I didn't like the clean artstyle, apart for the first and ninth episode when Devilman is enraged. The original manga's artstyle did have a big factor in selling the gruesome story and crudely to me while the anime is a bit too "tame" most of the time. I might have been too optimistic towards Yuasa but after having seen the anime I don't think its style was as fitting as the manga's style (still not bad though since I think a typical modern's anime style would've been way worse).
Too many sexual scenes and nudity to the point that some felt "unnecessary" but despite the quantity Mind Games still has the better one by far.
I also didn't like how they made much more obvious that Ryo was an enemy while playing with the fact that I already knew it, as most of the audience given the age of the manga. Like openly calling for Amon or having that demon as maid.

Not a fan of the Crybaby take on the story nor of the scene where Miki's father almost shot Taro, I liked the ideas but not the execution.

Regarding the ending the thing I didn't like is how Satan's story. In the manga Satan opposes God who wants to destroy the demons because he perceives them as a mistake but Satan wants to save them since it wasn't their choice to be born therefore God shouldn't have the right to exterminate them. So he goes into slumber with the demons in order to fight God but Humans start populating the Earth and he decides to exterminate them. While maybe not subtle enough, the point was that Satan did the same thing he criticized God for and in the finale he recognized his mistake and hypocrisy on trying to exterminate the humans. That to me made Satan's character more fleshed out than just a bland villain, in the anime that side of him is sadly not there.

I binged this series all in one day and it was the most balls to the wall insane experience I've ever had. I tried reading the original manga a couple months ago just because it was regarded as a classic, but I couldn't get past how dated it was. This adaptation absolutely blew me away though, and I'm so happy it exists. 10/10 for me.

Yeah, I don't see it happening. I'm actually fine with it because I really liked the 1998 one the way it was, wasn't really an adaptation of the manga, it was just a really awesome take on the Devilman concept that was more slow burn and psychological. And despite it being really sad at times and the ending is still really bittersweet, it's still a way happier and complete ending than Devilman usually gets.

I honestly thought way too much about Ryo's nudity throughout the episode. In the beginning, we could see Ryo as Satan had female breasts without nipples and a completely smooth/featureless crotch. Then a shot later showed Ryo hanging dong. And then even later we see Ryo has female breasts again, except this time with nipples, and again the featureless crotch?

I mean I'd say original Devilman has a pretty complete ending, it's just not a happy one. Nagai in general tends to not have endings. So many of his manga end on complete cliff hangers.

I don't think it's an loop to punish satan, cause this was the first time ryo met akira.

When will people realise that Devilman Crybaby would have happened regardless of Netflix?

It's celebrating Go Nagai's 50th Career Anniversary regardless of whether Netflix was involved or not. For your information, Netflix isn't involved in the two other Nagai projects, namely Mazinger Z Infinity and Cutie Honey Universe.

I'm Sorry but 4/10 I liked the original 1972 ver little better then this seems like it was trying way to hard to be depressing, anime can be dark but it can be handled very well i.e death note, blue gender, Berserk (manga) etc this was going for end of evangelion type shit and I'm just not a fan of that.
I guess I don't have as much of an issue with the ending its mostly with how certain characters are handle you have Miko making big speech about humans like the show try to make you feel for her but then I remember she killed the only guy who actually notice her and didn't ask about Mikki ( who I have no issues with ) in a sense I was happy the little rapper dude got his revenge unless is this how I'm supposed to feel with some of these characters ?

Several spin offs and sequels deal with the looping and resetting of time, but there's nothing saying this happened in crybaby

Awesome; yes. The feels;no. It really needed to be longer and the relationship was too weak for me to care. It was decent overall.
