Yeah, the voice acting wasn't that good and—probably because Suda wasn't the main creative voice on the project—the story made little sense to me. I've gotten like halfway through Lollipop Chainsaw so far and it is infinitely better. Such a strong, singular sense of identity, with great theming, English voice casting, simple yet fun gameplay and genuinely funny, stupid dialogue. A lot of ppl say the stuff Suda did from Shadows of the Damned onwards sucks, but idk, Chainsaw seems like a standout. And my PS3s still going strong; that's what I'm playing it on. Why aren't you using it anymore? Didn't you get it modded?

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree about Eva for now, lol. And yes, get on those G-Reco movies when you can. It's peak Tomino. They add so much for the characters, especially movies 4 and 5. I wanna rewatch G-Reco now just talking about it.

Aside from Ideon, I've been pretty slow on anime. I've been catching up on some Suda games instead, like Killer is Dead, which I finished just recently. Not my favourite thing he's been apart of, but the aesthetics were immaculate and the gameplay was pretty tight. I'm onto Lollipop Chainsaw now.

Tbh, yeah, I'd agree with that idea: doubling down on elements like that does heighten audience emotions if done correctly. It's probably why End of Eva is so moving to me, even now, knowing first hand how much Anno copied from Tomino in Ideon, lol. In terms of how I rank Tomino's work, I'd still say I like G-Reco and OKG more than Ideon, but Ideon was certainly the most powerful and poignant of the three. Who knows, in time, it might overtake. It certainly has the potential. I'll watch the last episode of the series soon, I just think it's impossible for it to be a satisfying ending, knowing how perfect Be Invoked is.

Well, it's in the name: it was kino. From start to end, Be Invoked was phenomenal. The visuals were gorgeous and easily the best looking thing I've seen from the early 80s. It's hard to even talk about it's themes because—without sounding pretentious—it's something better felt than explained. The idea of humanity meaninglessly tearing itself apart, over and over again, to the point where it has to be restarted from scratch because, as a species, we've already too far gone. It's chilling yet sobering. The biblical allusions were a little on-the-nose, especially with the whole "messiah" element, but the ending was unmistakably rapturous. Simply put, it was beautiful. I didn't think I would since I already knew that no one survived, but I cried so much, lol. As a unit, the cast of Ideon might be Tomino's best—better than U.C Gundam, probably. Everyone felt very real, and you really believed their love for each other. Bes was great, and I liked Kasha a lot too.

Ahh, yeah. I remember there was something with the order of how you watch the series + the movie, so thanks for clearing that up. I don't wanna look anything up online in case of spoilers :P I'll save any detailed thoughts for when after I've finished it.

Merry Christmas, brother! Been watching Ideon recently and loving it btw. I was worried it'd turn into a repetitive schlock like Dunbine, but thankfully, every episode has added to the plot meaningfully. The characters are fantastic too. When I finish the series, should I watch the first movie then the second movie, or go straight to the second movie?
MakkusuUnfilwin Nov 5, 2023 9:51 PM
Yeah, man has great taste. I love how all of it is baked into his character and the naming convention of his move set, like how he has The V-Trigger and The One-Winged Angel as finishing maneuvers. He's such a unique wrestler

I saw he recently fought and beat one of the creators of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada, at the Tokyo gameshow, lol.

Nice vid in you bio! His NJPW theme fits him pretty well, especially since he loves Final Fantasy and stuff like that, but honestly, I like his Battle Cry theme more.

Oo, the writer of Kaguya. Can't get more unfortunate than that. I read the premise before it came out and it seemed like it could be... entertaining, I guess? Then as soon as the anime dropped, people swarmed to the first episode as if it was some sort of cultural event, and when shit like that happens, you get a funny feeling it's going to be boilerplate. I heard about that touchy subject shit, and yeah, seemed like a pretty passé' take on suicide, or cyber-bullying or whatever it was, but from what it sounds like, people still found a way to be upset about it.

Nice new profile.

What'd you think of Oshi no Ko? I don't plan on watching it, but opinions seem pretty divided.

Ah, RIP. I guess, for most users, that's still relatively extensive, though.

Oh shit, that's a little disappointing. But tbf, though, your Chainsaw Man review is pretty damn long, lol. I wonder if the MAL blogs have a word limit as well.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
