Appreciate the recommendations and I'll be sure to check them out. I have been playing visual novels which consumes a lot of my time.
Idk when I'll be checking out those directors.
It could just be me, but not only the show was adorable but it was quite nostalgic too. They also serialized other great manga such as Vinland Saga, Blame, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Eden, etc.
Forsho it's an aesthetic anime. I personally wish we could get more anime like that compared other shows trying too hard to look aesthetic. My Happy Marriage is one example. Not that it looks bad but I wasn't fond of it.
Any directors that I should check out? I'm only looking at Edward Yang at the moment. His works reminds me of Isao's works. Something about both of them value authenticity.
About your comment about how grounded the characters were in Skip & Loafer, I think that's the main appeal to it. The anime often puts the cast all together and have authentic interactions that highlight the individual traits that ultimately define them. Which is exactly like a close group of friends in any school environment. Hence the resonating effect.
I adore the show and love that they kept the over exaggerated humor to a minimum. Small details on social cues were there along with the cast having their own insecurities.
Skip and Loafer definitely took a good approach on platonic friendships and emphasized it. Witnessing Sousuke and Mitsumi’s dynamic is charming.
I personally enjoy the manga more but the anime lives up to it.
