Rem has more reasons but overall I think she is a pretty flawed character. But I have seen much worse in anime. Subaru has love at first sight on emilia just for being pretty. Thats how vain their relationship is. |

Thats how vain their relationship is. Watch the first 3 episodes again. Subaru tells you why he's attracted to her, not just her looks. This even before getting into fact she brought him into her home and allow to get a stable life. If you were someone who was literally lost in different country/world, homeless, nearly robbed and killed, had nothing but clothes on your back and weren't grateful somebody decided out of the goodness of their heart to help your ass without asking anything in return you would be an idiot. You certainly wouldn't deserve the time of day. Rem on the other hand forced him to jump through hoops and treated him coldly until very end of the 2nd Arc. If had not been for the fact that he partially wanted to say by Emilia's side due to partly out of debt to her he would have left a long time ago. So you tell me again he suddenly switch his love solely to someone who only recently started supporting him over someone look after him since he got to this world? No I didn't' see why it less reasonable for Subaru to like the one person who hasn't gone out of her way to hurt him. What Emilia has done has effected direction of his life more than Rem has which has mostly amount trying save him. If not Emilia doing what she did who knows where he be at this point, which is something you can't say about Rem. Seems like half the time when some people complain why Subaru liked Emilia more than Rem, they seem to completely forget about the first half of the show and act as if Rem Arc 3 was like that all the time. And last by you're logic there is not much for Rem to have such loyalty to Subaru either since she feel for him in a similar manner he did for Emilia. |

| Emilia is literally the most unselfish character in the novel. She's been treated like shit for nearly a century, and instead of destroying the world, which she can easily do with puck, she instead wants to better the lives of the people that's been giving her shit. With the mentality of a 14 year old, she should be unstable, but she's not. She‘s mature for her age. The only reason people like Rem is because she sacrifices herself for Subaru, but in reality, Subaru is a trash character, so Rem‘s sacrifices are in vein. I'd rather have Emila that is trying to be noble and thinks of everyone, than Rem who can only prioritize one or two things. |

Their relationship is not vain, Subaru does not love Emilia at first sight because she was pretty, it was because she saved him from a bunch of thugs and was very kind/caring towards him. Your argument is flawed. Emilia is the perfect girl while Rem is trash. Also, Emilia has done far more things for Subaru than that selfish psychopath Rem. I guess, I need to refer to my blog:- Rem just loves Subaru because he saved her which happens in almost every anime, boy saves girl and then girl falls for boy. So if we look at it that way then we can clearly see Rem is too mainstream. She even killed Subaru because she was suspicious of him even though she had 0 proof. As for Emilia, I haven't seen any female character as selfless as Emilia. She saved a complete stranger and made sure to tell him he owes her no debt. No girl would do the same thing Emilia did (because in addition to helping the stranger, she made sure that he doesn't feel indebted to her). Rem murdered Subaru two times, but Emilia always cared about him. When Subaru was killed by Rem, he wanted to gain her trust so he worked very hard even though he became sick afterwards. He was broken from inside. He wanted to cry but he couldn't. He couldn't even tell anyone about his problems. No one cared about him since he tried to hide all his misery by putting a pathetic smile on his face so as to win Rem's trust. Even Rem didn't care about him at all. But Emilia saw thru that facade. She forced Subaru to sleep on her lap. She didn't question him or his motives (while Rem killed Subaru for that). She just provided him what he needed the most and after all the love that Emilia showered, Subaru then started to cry. That scene was beautiful <3 So we can clearly see that Emilia here is the IDEAL GIRL! But as opposed to him liking Rem, I could have easily seen him siding with Ram, which almost could have happened in his first two or three lives at the mansion. However, I think it was inferred that if Ram liked him, Rem would have killed him out of jealousy... or maybe because the feelings she developed for him were causing Ram conflict. During the part where Ram is going on about Rem cutting Subaru's hair, and staring at Subaru, I'm not sure what is really inferred there, but I think it's really interesting. Sorry, I excluded anything about ep18. I mean, even though she killed him twice in previous iterations I felt like he moved past that. He was ready to run away with her, and probably would have been torn about what he knew was going to befall Emilia and those at the mansion, but he was at a point where he had given up on being able to save them. Emilia's selflessness and beauty are pretty undeniable. That's something that Rem started to show a shade of in ep18, and when Subaru fought along side her in the woods against the mabeasts he kinda broke some of that dependence/attachment Rem had with Ram. Before that he was being killed BECAUSE of that link... but also because of their suspicion. And I haven't been able to find Arc 4 yet, but I'm interested to see, because I think this whole experience with Emilia was engineered by Satella. I'm also thinking there's something weird about Emilia calling herself Satella in Subaru's first life, and then him promising to save her, then in later lives she never refers to that name. I don't recall anyone saying anything about Satella, or the Jealous Witch in his first life. I might have to go back and read through that again. |
