How do you decide to watch a specific anime?

I'm kinda curios about this.

For me, if the anime's score is below 7, I'm not really willing to watch it. There are special cases of course, when I personally like the franchise, or a friend tells me to watch it.
How do you guys decide it? You read the synopsis and watch it based on that or start watching it and if you don't like it you just simply drop it?

I rarely trust MAL scores.
If it's an anime I heard is great, I may watch it, or if the plot synopsis sounds somewhat interesting.
Every season I give every anime a shot, as long as their plot sounds even a little bit interesting.
But if I dislike the 1st ep, or sense I won't like the rest, I drop it.

I read the synopsis and I'll read a bit of the reviews and make my decision from there. Nothing too crazy.

Not including airing etc, I mostly just click what catches my eye and think 'sure, why not'.

I add everything that catches my eye to my ptw, then click on "Random Anime" button and watch whatever came up. Try not to look at the score/reviews,only at the synopsis and pic.

If its above 7.5 I check the genres to see if it fits my taste, Im not really picky so its usually enough if it just doesnt have 'harem' or 'shoujo' tags cause these are shows I almost never enjoy. I also check how popular it is to get the general idea. Good cover picture and my favorite seiyuus in the main cast are also a big plus. If it's below 7.5 then aside from checking tags and popularity, I might also read the synopsis and look through some reviews (usually those with low rating to see why people disliked it). If its a TV series or movie rated below 6, or an ova rated below 5, then I need a really good reason to watch ot.

I do not trust what MAL users say at all anymore, with all these new anime just getting boosted to the top because they have a very active and large fanbase, so I just watch anything I feel like watching. Score doesn't matter, I sometimes find myself watching something with a low score just to see how bad it is. If the picture for the anime or the synopsis intrigue me, I might watch it. I might also watch the PV if I'm not sure.

Read the synopsis and/or watch a PV. Just drop it if it isn't good enough.

If you keep reading reviews about the anime, just watch it. That just means you have an interest for it, no matter how small. For me, I just go through anime list on this site.

Or if I'm reading a manga or watching an anime, and someone in the comments says something about another anime. I look I up, and watch it.

I would start an anime for different reasons
- I like the artwork or character design
- The plot sounds interesting
- It's popular / hyped
- Someone recommend
- Good ratings
- Good soundtrack
- Falls into the genres I like

Read the synopsis and then watch a PV if it looks and sounds good and it covers the genres that I like then I will give it a try

I look at the description and decide from there.

Also my friends rope me into watching some anime, which is the only reason I am watching the shitty isekai cell phone anime from last season.

Look at the thumbnail, read the summary and look at the genres -> If everything seems fine it comes to my PTW list.
Then when i start watching it, the first episode should be at least a 5/10 or somehow deliver and make me want to watch more. If it doesn't fulfill those conditions, i mostly drop it.

I have no idea. It depends on the mood. So different conditions apply every single time.
Score, Cover Image, Genres, Age Rating, Studio, Director, Trailer, Synopsis, Adaptation or a recommendation.

years ago when i was starting i just watched whatever was popular and had ecchi tag. i saw most anime i wanted to see so now i have a clear picture of what i watch next. i dont really judge by score because if u take into account the 80s OVAs then anything above 6.3 score is basically a masterpiece but anything below 5.9 is bad xd

i still evade SoL and shoujo anime tho ive seen some

I have a good pool of friends who have similar taste to mine but I'll also hear pass by reviews or even watch analysis videos to get a good sense of hidden gems.

I’m likely attracted to shonen series or feel good stuff with parental/child pair ups so I’ll check them out due to taste but sometimes honestly I’ll try random stuff and see if it clicks.

I tried some anime with score below 7 on MAL. I can say that they are more accurate than the TOP Anime list. I simply don't watch anymore.

The tricky part is the 7-8 range. I usually read the reviews to get an idea what I am going to find.

It's pretty much random. Unlike you guys, I don't add series I want to watch on my MAL PTW list. Instead I have a notebook, which I fold in half (hotdog style) and label 13 pages A-Z and #. I use to watch anything that interests me but now the pages are getting filled up so I'm now watching anime in A-Z order to get rid of the entries that don't have room to fit.

That was confusing.

If only there was some method of sorting a PTW Alphabetically...
Somebody needs to make a thread on the suggestions board for this one...

Most times I'll start a series if the story seems good, if it's highly rated, if someone I know recommends it, or if both of the following conditions are met: 1) It's short & 2) I don't feel in the mood to watch a good anime because my current mood might spoil it.

Sometimes I'll hear so many references to a series that I have to watch it, that happened with DBZ and made it my mist anime series.

I watch the anime PV or sometimes read a few chapters of the manga (I don't mind spoilers), if it has my preferred genre or just interests me then i'll put it in my PTW list.

I usually add to my Plan-To-Watch the ones that get to my attention, and when I get the time I watch them.

When there's one seasonal show that becomes very very very famous, I add it too.

If it's an airing season I'll pick whatever I like from the design of the cover or a friend of mine recommends me some of them. For all other anime it's either based on their popularity or I've randomly seen a few images / gifs from that anime and liked them. Another reason would be if a few friends of mine want to watch it together. The last reason I would watch an anime is because it's very short and doesn't take up much time.

I mostly ignore the MAL rating and even if I dislike the anime I'll continue watching it instead of dropping as it might get better.

I read the synopsis. If I like it, I add it to my PTW list and from there I give it a couple of episodes, sometimes just one, and then decide if I waste my time with that show or move on.

I've got three methods :

1 - Reading the synopsis of the programmes in the MAL list , since I already know most of the shows in the top 300 I usually go further .

2 - Recommendation from someone , it depends on what the person told me about the show and who the person is .

3 - Searching on anime/manga blogs , for example theCartDriver , many of the admins' fav shows are excelent animes that are below 8 here on MAL .

I started by my classmates' recommendations then found the MAL top list, so I started watching almost anything and at the beginning I was naive and I did not drop anything I thought everything will be moderate but oh boy I was wrong. Long story short after I was scared by a kiss between two males who I thought they were two very close male childhood friends who were very protective of each other. I realized that many genres for many fetishes exist so I started avoiding some genres at all costs lol. After watching most of the popular good animes out there or listing them to watch when they are completed I started watching animes from recommendations based on what I already watched and on some you-tube videos of you-tubers who had their favorites similar to mine. I now have watched most of the good ones or have them planned so I am exploring the manga world which is way much deeper and much raw than the anime world.

So based on how I decided what to watch for Fall 2017...

1) Read the synopsis and judge the poster.
2) Find out how hyped the show is among fans.
3) See if the genre tags suit my current tastes.
4) Reject anything under the score of 5.99. (trauma of watching The Reflection)
5) If I am too lazy to watch the first episode right away (usually because my watch list is already so full), let it rest for 3 weeks and observe its reputation among fans.
6) See what my favorite anime Youtubers are watching (i.e The Anime Man)

I don't watch PV's much because they usually don't have subtitles. As much as possible, I want to avoid dropping shows or putting them on hold (my hold list is basically suffering for my attention.)

As for shows that have already aired, it's easier to decide:
1) How good the show is according to fans?
2) Do I feel like watching this?
3) Do I have the time to watch this?

by a lot of research
mostly if the poster is interesting, then i check it out, read reviews...
and sometimes
no research ...just watch it on impulse(the surprise element!).
