I really enjoyed this episode, Goku's new form was crazy and I'm looking forward to the rest of the tournament. Goku's Ultra Instinct ability was dope and it was so funny how excited Whis got, and how mad the other Hakai-shin got haha. I think Frieza will give Goku energy because why would he kill him? U7 would lose without Goku and Frieza should know that. Hopefully Goku will use this new found power again later on in the tournament. |

Damn, this episode was amazing. The first thing DBS has given us that's on par with some of DBZ's best moments. His new form is probably one of the coolest Gokus I've seen. Now I'm almost tempted to raise my rating by at least 1 point, lol. |

I actually enjoyed this two episode special. I'm a bit surprised. Second half was much weaker minus the neat transformation, though. I did like Frieza's part in the end. |

This is what I'd expect from Dragon Ball, fun good looking fights, the hyped up main event delivers, first time Super actually delivers for me. Glad Goku's new mode/state isn't Super Saiyan green weed but just Ultra instinct and it relates to the other gods of destructions. That first bit with Ribrianne was cringe, glad they got that done with and moved on. Liked the few touches of Frieza showing up at the end against Goku and Hit going for the kill right away, most likely gonna job to Jiren. |

Replying to the whole positive energy spirit bomb comments. At first i thought this too, but when i thought it over it make sense in a way. No matter how you look at it, it's still a giant ball of ENERGY doesn't matter if its negative or positive, taking a blast of that magnitude would still do considerable of damage. If it were true that it can only harm things with negativity than why do the surroundings break and fall apart? Are the filled with negativity as well? I'm not saying that it's flawed but sometimes you just gotta go with it. |

It's like surpassing god of destruction's power + genkidama so Super Saiyan Genkidama God Goku or smth!?? Jiren was a pure monster omg, even Goku with his new awakened power couldn't really do significant damage aside from few punches/kicks |

Freeza is definitely referring to the part when Goku shared his energy with him on Namek... He was looking so malicious but I don't think he wants to kill Goku. He got something bigger planned. Whether it makes sense or not, I loved Goku's new transformation. Hoping to see more of it in the future. Also, can someone eliminate Ribrianne already? She's so damn annoying. |

Everyone complaining that Gokus transformation was an ass-pull. Yet when Caulifla and Kale transformed for no reason no one complained. The sayains are an ever evolving race. They will continue to transform and evolve till they die. Just how it is. I think everyone should just be glad that the new transformation didn't mean Goku was assured a win. Really it seemed to phase the GOD's more than it did Jiren. |

Maitoz said: Space-Majin said: If only his new transformation wasn't an asspull, this episode would be a 10/10 for me. It doesn't matter if Frieza gave him "evil energy", because unless the target is evil it won't work. Goku was going to use the Spirit Bomb anyway, with or without Frieza. Frieza's energy alone wouldn't do anything against the likes of Jiren. The transformation itself was hype, the fighting/animation was great, the music was REALLY good. At least he didn't win against Jiren, that made the asspull more bearable. Still a great episode I guess in the end. Hit vs Jiren should be really good too. I think we are all wrong, Im sure you can use the Spirit Bomb against good people, its just energy after all, Good hearted people are gonna have it way easier to deflect but it doesnt mean that you cant get hit by it, and it was bigger this time because all the fighters have alot of energy here instead of earth which are just weaklings and plants. Or Since Goku knew he had no chance to win he just used his best move to try to win hoping Jiren had some evil inside him. Lets be Honest if you cant win and youre about to get eliminated, Why not use your best Move? Goku isnt gonna waste time trying to find out if Jiren has some evil or not. Back in Dragon Ball Z Kai, episode 16, Goku said that people that aren't evil can repel the technique. Nothing Jiren did so far indicates that he is evil, so all he needs to do is put his hand out to block and the technique shouldn't work, no matter what. The spirit bomb isn't just energy, it's PURE energy. It is meant to destroy evil. Unless they showed signs of Goku hoping Jiren was evil in the anime, then that is just your headcanon, nothing more. |

@Tony_SansNom we've gotten red, yellow, blue, blue & red, and pink... all that's left is orange, green, and purple yet when you see a transformation that involves the great ape transformation that's literally the first thing we learn about saiyan lore combined with turning into a super saiyan, which turns into a design that involves both, your first instinct is to write it off.. and here we are the rainbow saiyans correction: Broly and Kale are technically green.. so yeah we just need purple and orange to complete this lazy transformation rainbow |

GT is a trash spinoff, and should be ignored. Everything within GT should be considered false within the context of the rest of Dragon Ball. Some are saying that Freiza might give some of his energy to Goku. If anyone remembers, Goku gave his energy to Freiza so that Freiza could escape Namek, although Freiza tried to take advantage of it to destroy Goku but failed. Rather than revenge, he might be literally returning the favor. |

I loved these 2 episodes, definitely my favorite episodes of Super so far. Why are so many people saying the Spirit Bomb shouldn't work on Jiren? It's stated that if you're PURE Of Heart or PURE Hearted you're able to deflect it. That's why Kid Gohan was able to deflect it with ease. Not just because you're good or neutral. Jiren is definitely not pure hearted, so that's why he would have been badly damaged if the bomb hit him. |

Story-wise it's fine I guess. Atmosphere actually felt aight for once. But I'll be damned if those weren't the edgiest power-up and battle sequences of all time lmao. Audio/visual effects and designs this ep all came straight out of some rando fanfic. I do like the direction 110 will take the plot in tho. Frieza prob gonna help him obtain access to Ultra Instinct by simulating however Goku resisted/broke through his own energy. If the animation quality doesn't fall back on amateur studios again, and we don't get another ~108 eps of filler in-between, show might actually earn a fond remembrance. Which isn't something I could've said before this. Really hoping for some actually nice and memorable scenes between Goku/Frieza and Hit/Vegeta and that they'll try tie up the series soon here; while the sudden jump in their allotted visual fireworks budget might give the illusion of promise, that alone isn't gonna help it's case as an otherwise awful cashgrab. 0 trust in the studios to keep a decent vibe running any longer than 10 eps in a row qq, but would love for DB to just end its long lifespan on a good note. Super has sullied DB's legacy enough as is. Maybe convert a mega slimmed down version of the tournament arc and buildup into a movie and call it a day...which'll never happen, but would be ideal ;; |

Slim_Lamie said: LuZeke said: the whole "in some universe there exists a mortal that can defeat a God of Destruction" bit was just dumb. Dumb not because they said it, but dumb because of when they said it. It would've been much more effective to have Whis, or anyone, voice that "legend", or whatever, at the start of the tournament. It would have reinforced the idea that Jiren is basically Dragon Ball Saitama, and is bored because no one is even remotely a challenge anymore. But nah, make it an asspull and throw it out when he's actually going to fight Goku. At the beginning of the tournament they already said that there is a mortal who is stronger than the gods of destruction. They didn't go into details, but it was mentioned sometime. --- The episodes were really epic, but the logic behind the power-up disappointed me. I expected SSB kaioken 20x to be more epic, that he'd say "fuck it", and he pushes his kaioken to the max, as another epic cornerstone. Anyways, this solution was fine, showing how powerful Jiren is, by saying Goku was already using kaioken 20x. Then about the genki dama; So anyone can raise their hands to give power to the genki dama, but they didn't clarify on something; What did Beerus and Whis react seeing Goku using it? Did they raise their hands too? I would have been really interested in seeing them raising their hands or refusing, and to see what difference it could make. The 2nd episode had a surprising amount of talk, and attempts to explain things, but it wasn't enough. Okay, he has ultra instincts. Okay, it was something to do with genki dama, but even the explanation of Whis didn't make much sense. He also emphasized that he has no idea about Goku's aura, though. I understand that Dragon Ball is about fight, and I've never really watched it for a plot with epic twists, and reasoning, but I'd be happy to see more proper explanations. Anyways, I hope we can see more episodes like this in the future, and that we get a better explanation for this form a bit later. Especially that "heat" even Whis couldn't explain. It made sense, the spirit bomb was going to destroy Goku, but Goku using all his strength to survive pushed him passed his limit to a new level. You see, the very action of pushing to all your limits helps you achieve higher levels of power. It's like gaining more stamina, after going through a grueling distance workout, you'll be able to go further next time. Likewise, it's the same with Goku, the spirit bomb was like highly strenuous time chamber workout that could result in death, we know those are workouts that strengthen. Afterwards, the spirit powered him in his newly gained heightened form, as he didn't have any more energy of his own from using all it to survive. |

Period. It's a shonen fighting anime, there's no attempts to write a compelling story. Rather it's purely a cash grab that tries to be entertaining. I think it accomplishes that, so it doesn't make much sense to complain about the writing as that isn't the selling point of the show, only the fights with some compelling story is needed. There's issues with the story of course, but the explanation for it made sense, it was teased months ago, and the manga isn't all that superior to the anime. There's glaring plot holes, while the scaling makes no sense in it. All in all, it's just a fun anime to watch for the fights. If you want to watch something purely for masterful story telling, go watch LoTGh or Trust & Betrayal, not all shows are done to have masterful story telling, at times it's just the spectacle, which is what DBS is about. |

I have a difficult relationship with DBS. From time to time the show shows glimpses of greatness, that renew my hope that the show could be amazing, most of the time I get reminded that the people in charge just don't care and hope that the fan's nostalgia is strong enough, and will be content with whatever they're presented. I've skipped the past couple Episodes, only keeping up to date through reviews or maybe skimming through the occasional Episode. I sat down and watched the latest two, because they were hyped through the roof. Unfortunately for most of it I felt either bored or annoyed. Even though the show is brand new, not following a Manga, most Episode still feel like terrible filler. Especially with the way the show is still so cheaply drawn, with only the occasional detailed frame here and there during the fight with Jiren. And why is Ribrianne even still in the tournament? Goku still messes around in base form the majority of their fight. Can we have 17 or 18 step in, to quickly put an end to her shenanigans? Of this entire 1 hour special, I enjoyed 3 minutes. Basically when the new song started and ended. When Goku fought Jiren in his new state, the hype up has definitely been justified. The fight started out strong, with Goku's new power on display, some nice moves and exciting action, and then it devolved into your typical DBZ action, where choreography is thrown out the window, and all we see is a flurry of punches with shockwaves exploding all over the place. And I know people already talked about the Genkidama, but I feel like I need to add my 2 cents. What the hell was the point of it? Let's ignore for a second it's supposed to only work on evil beings, like it's been already pointed out. To defeat Kid Buu, it took the entire energy of earth, Namek, and the afterlife. Against Jiren, Goku only gathered the energy of 5 people. I say 5, because honestly, the energy Tien, Krillin and Roshi provided, was like a drop in a bucket. So 5 people, all who I can safely assume, are way below 20x Kaioken SSB Goku. Even if it would have worked on Jiren, the Genkidama would have probably only given him a few bruises. So Jiren with a few bruises, and 3 warriors of Universe 7, who wasted precious energy. Well thought out Goku. You know, at first I was annoyed that Vegeta seemed to have lost all of his character development, because he refused to share his energy with Goku. But then I realized, Vegeta knew it was a stupid plan from the start. Well, enough rambling from me for now. |

Apparently millions of DB fans are fucking retarded, and have no idea how the spirit bomb actually works. -____- YES it's a ball "pure energy"... SO WHAT OF IT??? It's ONLY ever been stated that one who is "pure-hearted" in nature, can create & DEFLECT the spirit bomb, nothing more. It's NEVER been stated that the spirit bomb will magically & subjectively discriminate against only evil people. Like what the actual fuck?... Do you people think the spirit bomb will just phase through "the good"/surrounding area??... As if the spirit bomb can't destroy planets, or harm innocent "pure-hearted" bystanders in an aftermath/explosion. It's just a ball of enormous energy, OF COURSE it can STILL harm/backfire/kill good people; as clearly shown throughout its history. -___- |
