A very very good first episode! :D

Character introductions... Plot establishment... Action scenes... Comedy scenes aren't forced, they're just on the right track!
Also, great animation! :D Even my sister (who was supposedly just passing by while I'm watching) commended it as well. :D

Though I must agree that CGI looks a bit weird on some stuffs.
Also, is it just me or sometimes the dub timing is a bit off with the animation?

I was really hyped while watching it. :D 8/10

I also speak chinese, but from Taiwan not China, and whenever I listen to mainland speakers speaking mandarin with their accents, its pretty intense or sharp to me, but thats because Taiwanese way of speaking mandarin is much more different.

Yeah, I speak mainland Chinese so Ye Xiu's voice sounds nice to me. Same with Tang Rou's voice. Chen Guo's voice irks me because it sounds exaggerated sometimes, kinda like those comedy shows. It's better voice acting than some other Chinese anime I've watched. Some of them were really cringeworthy (the characters sounds sarcastic the entire time)

I saw a lot of compliments on this series, but I was holding back cuz I'm a girl who thinks playing games is time-wasting and I don't know any basics about internet games/eSports.

I finally gave it a try and I was surprised to find myself kinda like it.
What I love about it is that it didn't focus on the action scenes in the game, but managed to find a balance between the real life & in-game interacts.

Overall an 8/10 ep and I will probably keep watching.

As someone who can speak chinese, this was quite unbearable to my ears. Not that its bad or anything, its just that after watching anime for years in Japanese, its SUPER awkward to hear it in chinese that I speak.

I'm a Chinese Mandarin speaker instead of Taiwanese. But I understand what you mean cuz that's what I usually feel when I watch Chinese animes. But let's try not to be harsh on these voicing actors and give them some time to exercise. In that way I found them doing a nice job so far. (To be honest, some VAs' performance in another Chinese anime was quite beyond my expectation.)
After all, China does't have that much of a mature anime industry and as many professional VAs as Japan does. On the brighter side, we're making progress~

I have found a Chinese cartoon that I actually love....God damn, this first episode was good

This is exactly what I thought. XDD

I gotta say that this is easily by far the most accurate video game series there is and the fact that it takes traits from both SAO (In regards to playing a very popular game and the MC being the best at it) and LH (In regards to how inn depth they go with actual MMO gaming mechanics, the way people communicate with one another as well as allowing us the viewer to experience it all as if the player was actually in the game) and combine it with E-Sports and all of the tactics, competitiveness and strategy that comes along with it is a real breath of fresh air

The MC is a very likable dude not only because of how good he is, but like Shiroe from LH this guy is really smart too and the way he thinks things through is more than impressive. I also really dug his personality because both beneath and under the surface, he's genuinely a cool, generous and respectful human being and I like that a lot

The visuals in general are great however, the CG looks really weird lol but that's okay....Action scenes were awesome, the dialogue was very fitting and the OST is nice too, so with all that said, this series looks to be a fun and entertaining ride and I can't wait to see GLORY in an even brighter light than I do now as well as to get more of insight into the world of E-Sports

Great start overall, this really reminded me of the old days when I used to be really into online gaming and seeing him start off as a noob/newcomer was very nostalgic for me

You pretty much said everything I wanted to say and it's nice that the anime has a bit of E-sports as well. I'm glad I decided to start this. :D

I'm with you, when I first started watching Korean drama last years it was weird at first, but then I got used to it.
But IMO Chinese language sounds awful, or maybe just that the voice actors in all Chinese animes don't know how to give a specific tone that fits the anime theme.
Also, they speak so fast, I don't know if that has to do with the language itself or the unprofessionality of the voice actors.

I don't find them speaking very fast tbh. In fact, if they get to HuangShaoTian, now that'll be fast talking.

The difference between chinese and japanese that makes Chinese seem faster is because chinese words can often be one or two syllabes while Japanese often needs a lot more syllabes for the same thing. This also makes subs difficult to read. But as a native Chinese person, I don't find the voice acting too fast.

I do agree that some tones were weird though. Sumucheng sounds particularly breathy and ChenGuo's voice sounds a bit high pitched for me.

做得好!

I'm happy to see more Chinese in the anime community. I'm a little confused of MAL's double standards of "not accepting American anime because it's not concurrent with Japanese culture", but then Chinese is entirely fine.

Anyway, so far, the story line seems a little generic. So hopefully it will get better. However, the animation is impressive! I thought I wouldn't like the strange CGI / anime mix (Berserk trauma), but they seem to only throw in CGI at the right moments. And the animation is not lazy like it is in so much anime today.

They didn't do the best job at explaining the first scene, but I'm sure they'll go back to it.

TL;DR
Animation is amazing, storyline is lacking. Looking forward to more.

Well I couldnt understand the words but it was a good 1st episode. especially because it looks like the pacing will be really good and not rushed. I agree about the CGI looking kinda weird in some spots but beyond that it was good. I think the voice actors were good for the main roles as well. I felt they off roles felt a little weird but thats fine. Well at least it lived up to my expectations for the most part. I was worried they were going to focus too much on fighting but almost all of the first episode was dialogue which is honestly the more important part of the series so thank god for not selling out!

Also I would say 9/10 on first ep since the animation was a little weird in some spots and a little weird in voice acting but I think they did a good job introducing the characters they have introduced so far.

I like the animation, I like how chill the MC is (so far). and so the story's looks like I might be pretty fun.

I must say though that it was a bit tricky to follow the Chinese. I had taken for granted how many Japanese words I've picked up through anime and how well I can follow the rhythm. Tencent's subtitles were only on screen as long as the characters were speaking the words... we need time to read and look at the pretty pictures!

Really interesting start, looking forward to more. Though the retirement thing confused me, when she said retired players can't come back for a year, does she mean the pro circuit? To being sponsored? Or can't play the game itself for a year? As ofc he goes and starts a new character the very same night.

I'm very interested by the premise in this "anime" because it doesn't feel like the stereotypical mmo rpg game anime but rather it feels more like a sports anime. With the rise of e-sports we will probably see many more anime like this but I really think it's a cool idea! Now I call this an "anime" using quotations because it's a Chinese anime which I really wouldn't have been able to tell from the art style or animation just the obvious language difference. I really think this anime has the potential for massive underground success! It could be one of the best anime of the season
I shall rule over the realms of anime and manga! Mwahhahahahaha!!!

Could this be the advent of Chinese Anime? This was....surprisingly good! It even had swearing and captured the essence of gaming. It was also refreshing because it didn't have your usual otaku infused "im transported into a game world and won't have the possibility of coming back for real". This is more about real life. The chinese language did not bother me, in fact i thought it was funny! My only major problem is that the subs are so fast compared to Japanese ones. I couldn't have the time with reading it well and had to pause just to check them. A minor problem is also how cardboard that antagonist (eyeglass dude) was. Amusing women though and nice mc. Great start and the visuals were surprisingly good! MOST UNDERRATED ANIME OF THE SEASON and possibly, the year.

Got excited for this after reading all the hype... but after watching the first episode, I am terribly disappointed. The art direction excels at times and I like the idea of the plot, however, the animation is subpar, CGI is obtrusive at times, and worst of all the script is terribly corny. In particular some of the drawn animations are horrid, for example when our MC walks outside in the snow... His legs and feet are just not natural.

I am going to give episode 2 and 3 a shot... If it doesn't turn it around, it looks like a drop for me.

10 years of online playing only one game, he was playing since he was 15 years old! Some dedication and passion for the game there! He lost it all because he's too kind helping other players probably off the game and the club thinks he has no commercial value, welcome to commercialism, baby!

Couldnt help but snicker at the scene showing lower levels grinding. I remembered my teen years pulling all-nighters playing some MMOs just to grind. Good times...and man I feel I old. LOL

The animation quality is beautiful but I can't seem to get over the Chinese voice actors, I've been reading subs and watching at the same time for as long as I can remember but for some reason it's more difficult with this show.

People are saying that the MC looks like Kirito but I don't see it. His character design isn't super unique but it's not super generic either. He looks like a character I've seen in a hentai or yaoi or something. I can see why the girl would be assumed to be an Asuna-lookalike but same thing, it's not as if Asuna's design is super original either.

Poor guy, his club royally fucked him in the ass. But at least... MCDONALDS! The CG background NPCs are hilarious.

Ye Qiu is helping out his poor gamer friends who have no life skills even though he can barely afford to feed himself. Tell me why the bad guys are so linear in this series? Like why would they get rid of him just like that? Then again, there are people in real life who would lay you off even if you had cancer. Speaking of cancer, this guy smokes cancer sticks.

A lot of them have similar names, it's hard to tell, they seem to be pronounced similarly too. I can't tell if that fight with the Shadow Cat was a flashback or recent.

As a guy who has been playing grindy mmorpgs his whole life, in 1 episode this show has already done better than every other RPG inspired anime in existence. Why couldn't SAO have been more like this instead of the cringy melodramatic teen male otaku panderfest that it became? (i'll never forget the gradual disappointment that sunk into me as I progressed through that show).

The animation was on point, the character designs are beautiful, and even the 3d parts like the first person view in the gaming cafe looked fucking great (I normally despise 3d animation in anime). But most importantly, the story and atmosphere is very chill and down to earth; the way a show about playing fucking videogames should be. I don't speak or understand mandarin, but way the voice actors speak really fits in that regard. It sounds like the way people talk in real life and not dramatic or overexaggerated like in so many japanese anime. Lastly, all the little things like the excitement over a new server opening, the overcrowding in newbie areas, and the different types of people that come to play these games were really relatable.

One thing that I was kind of on the fence about was the evil manager guy in the business suit. I get that the show is merely establishing the antagonists, but this character leaned a bit too close to cartoony evil. Its like the show is trying to make him look scumbag as possible ignoring what a esports manager/coach/whateverheis would really do in such a situation. Otherwise, the characters are all fine (digging the store owner lady so far).

All in all, good first episode. I hope they keep it up.

plz remember that meaning is always missing when chinese novel/lyrics is translated to english. even translators have do their hard work, but missed sentences/words are always happen during translation. for example, translators will change complex sentence into simple sentence and use simple vocab reduce complex adj. the original author understand chinese language well. The name of pro-gamers like JunMoXiao(lord grim), one inch ash are all from chinese ancient poem. BUT eng translation won't translate the real meaning, they will just find a way to simplify the name so that foreigners can remember easily, get it?
