I don't understand why those type of characters are what people favor in anime. Even for a mediocre anime, the tsundere always seems to steal the show in peoples' eyes. I don't think there's any tsundere I liked except for Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service and the last time I saw that, I was 13 so I may have overlooked it but even then, I hated obnoxious characters. I remember Kiki being very friendly and sweet, so maybe that balances her tsundere personality a bit. I don't know what I'd think of her now. But characters such as Holo from Spice and Wolf or Misato Katsuragi, I can't seem to get into. The very bratty type is what turns me off and I do not like seeing people hostile to their lovers. Tsundere is a stereotype now, and I thought most people would hate tsunderes. And I really hate how people get so defensive about them. What's about them that people love so much? They're aggressive, egotistical, call people "baka" for stupid reasons and controlling. |

A common excuse I hear is that people are masochists so they like the abusive treatment of said tsundere but I as a sadist still very much like tsunderes since they are mentally hurt in some way which causes the behaviour just like how yanderes act the way they do from past trauma now some people like the archetype since you can easily build character development for said character using that archetype. Like with Hinagiku She didn't have romantic feeling for Hayate in the beginning of the series but as they got to know each other better and she started having feeling for him her high strong personality kicked in as she wants to be seen as a strong person thinking she can't admit her feelings to him as that would feel like losing to her which is something she eventually overcomes with the passage of time as she grows as an individual |

misato is really hot and also kisses shinji at the end (i.e. the dere side) which makes her even more moe moe doki doki but she was never that tsun tsun tbh.. asuka fits this role better not familiar with the other characters you described, but the above should apply to most tsudnere.. tsun and dere are like yin and yang |

I can understand why people don't like Tsunderes (they're everywhere and can be really big jerks) and I'm sure It won't be easy to deal with this kind of character if It exists in real. But for some reasons, I kinda like them. I lke to see their soft-adorable part behind the cold wall they create. Maybe It's a proof they start to trust someone, they open their heart to people who understand them... Maybe It's seeing the beauty in something hostile and ugly I like. (It's quite the opposite of Yanderes for me. beautifull outside-ugly inside) Honestly, I kinda recognize myself in them. Grumpy, pessimist, not a social person at all with some misanthrop believes but when I meet someone who understand me and accept for what I am, I become more open, more gentle... ...but maybe I mistake with Kuuderes. |

pinkarray said: I don't understand why those type of characters are what people favor in anime. Even for a mediocre anime, the tsundere always seems to steal the show in peoples' eyes. Quite a simple answer. 1. Overpopulation of Beta males within the anime consumer range, 2. Tsunderes have the appeal of the forbidden fruit. The MC and therefore the audience who self inserts themselves into the main character of Harem shows who are the predominanent advertisers of relationships in Anime, seemingly cannot have her. It´s the primitive instinct in humans that let´s them desire what they cannot have. 3.Hypergirl,communicates straight to the MC that they want them therefore becomes boring because predictlable to the audience, while Shy girl communicates her avaiability to the audience but not the MC and becomes also boring. With the exception of the underdog lovers, that make shy girl the second most or maybe even the most popular stereotype. 4. Cocky behaviour gets intepreted as sexual tension "just fuck already" becomes a sentiment the audience gets behind. This should answer your question in a satisfying manner. Alpha males usually prefer the shy girl because women belong in the kitchen. A tsundere would´n´t let that slide. |

It's a common trope. Often tsundere steal the spotlight not because they are tsundere but because they are the main heroine. So I guess what you meant by the question is why tsundere so often find themselves as the main heroine? Ok so.... while over-exaggerated, these tropes are referenced from real life people. Tropes like the dandere or kuudere kinda make sense, but unfortunately would be considered boring by most anime standards. Tsunderes on the other hand make less sense, but the flashiness is an appeal of sorts. |

Simply put it, because people can and they will. That's just it. It's like asking yourself, "why do I breath everyday?" you'll come up with deep reasonings, but it will just lead to one thing: For you to be alive. I do add pepper to food, it has a strong fragrance that removes the meat/chicken's odour, especially if it's ground pork... Ehhh? Milk to coffee... Never tried that. I either add sugar or none. |

Is not the agressive part that amuses people, is their hidden kind, shy and blushing side. Kind shy blushing girls are just the best, and getting that behavior from a tsundere is so hard that when it finally happens the effect it has is more rewarding than with a girl that is just docile 24/7. Liking or not a tsundere character is a matter of how much mean treatment you are willing to whistand in order to get to the price that is her good side. |

It's about entertainment and likeability. Making a character as antagonistic as a tsundere will lead to some people not liking them, it's the same for bullies or just plain bratty characters. You would probably not like to be around somebody like that because if I would, I would reprimand them, attack them, or try to stop the fight. There is no need to get defensive. If it was somebody who is so sweet and innocent, that would be less of a problem. It's not the end of the world if there's no tsundere in a particular anime. You can make really kind characters without making them tsunderes or angsty. Cowboy Bebop is a good example because even though some of the characters are selfish and have a temper, they still show a compassionate side at times. Like even though Spike was annoyed with Roco at first, it didn't last long and he warmed up to him. The show felt realistic an well-rounded. |

Because they are masochists who want to be abused both physically and verbally till they see the "goodness" and "character development" in them. I hope that every tsundere supporter will get a tsundere love interest someday and then end up in an abusive relationship and marry them, I'm sure nothing would be more pleasurable than being abused by a "well developed" tsunderes, right? ^_^ |

It is highly correlated with taste/perspective. You probably think that tsunderes is immature. Yes, they are IMMATURE. Therefore the male part will play the MATURE one. FORGIVE them for their IMMATURITY and become a mature MAN. Well, certain people cannot accept this because they are too proud of their MASCULINITY. Cannot be hep then~ |

Read about Skinner's box. Tsundere who are randomly nice and mean, and make you think you're making progress, are irresistible. Just like RPGs and their levelups, and a few other modes of entertainment. About tsundere and sadism/masochism. As a sexual sadist, I find tsundere to be fun. Why? Because sexual stuff (like protagonist falling on her breasts or walking in on her changing) happens to her all the time. And it gets a reaction from her without fail. And unlike shy girls who burst into tears, she can take it, so I don't feel guilty. Maybe it's just gratifying to have your sexuality have an effect on other people. Hmm.. From my own personal taste their aren't that bad... As Usual You can either hate, or love that anime character.. But not even if she's alpha bitch.. I don't think that tsunderes fans are "masochist" because most people watch anime as a "side observer" and not from the eyes of the main character. That is why slipping on a banana peel is funny and isn't frightening and sad =3 Also, tsunderes character are a pretty good archetype for the story and plot of the anime. When they need to be "funny" they have the tsun side and when they need to be "romantic" they have the dere side =3 They are very dynamic =3 |

When done well they show and ideal relationship for many: no stranger would love you straight from the start, through effort and getting to know them better you fall in love, "you conquer her heart" which is even more of a feat as she was all tsun at the start. Personally I just like the shy mushy mushy dere side Most "tsundere" these days are wretched abominations that seem more like an abusive psycho with the mc clearly being a maso. Somehow this sells to the masses and it's really easy to write, so you will see this type more often |

Take easy OP. Tsundere is one of unique things that i found in anime like moe, loli, manzai, frame using, etc. But i'm understand on your concert OP sometimes i'll get triggered with some tsundere characters if it not executed well by animated studio. One of the other reason why did OP hates tsundere is (maybe) OP already watched many tsundere characters and getting boring with that. So take a breath and brave yourself because tsundere is popular than other dere. You will found many of them in future. |
