Just made an account to talk about this ep (cause crunchy roll has a character limit and the comments are getting super burred under all the comments). I wish that they had just gone and lived on there own and then that when Subaru died he just goes and respawns at the point with Rem and the appas. Then the speech (maybe a little less blind haremy love style speech (not that there is anything wrong with that if you like that )) would have had a lot more impact to me. I mean it seems that for the majority most people really loved this ep but I was not very impressed. I think that it maybe a staple that anime characters who are said to be in love with a certain character blindly appreciate the character they are in love with but I think it may have been a little more realistic if Rem got angry at him for his self loathing. I think often times once a character becomes part of the harem (I mean I don't know if she actually is but she is acting like it) they lose a lot of their identity. Maybe it is realistic in the sense that someone who is in love with someone but will never have that person often times is able to overlook seemingly glaring faults in the person that they loves personality. Maybe might have also been cool if the whole, I love the Barasu that is here now (the one who is the hero) was explored in the ep when they actually go out and live together by possibly Rem growing distant from him as he displays that he has become a coward and still regrets it (maybe some more choices are made by him increasing in his personality becoming more and more estranged from what his personality was initially). Possibly eventually she leaves him (with the child?) and thats where he kills himself instead of dying of old age. This would also justify him loving Emilia more. It would also have the effect of making Rem's love for Subaru have more of a character in itself and stay with the dark theme of the story. Sorry I didn't mean to come on here and write a fan fiction lol, or to criticize what seems to be the opinion of most of the viewers just wanted to get this out there because of what I thought when I watched it. Someone on the comment section of crunchyroll actually said that in a side story they go in live together which is cool. Maybe a good way to tell who is going to be the main love in a harem story in an anime is to see who actually dislikes part of the main characters personality, and won't settle for them until they do something about it (which Emilia seems to be doing). If I were Subaru I would have phrased it in another way like "im not ready to talk about love yet I just want to save Emilia"

But anyways I'm glad he was honest instead of lying to her. She would have known if he lied.

Same here, the past four episodes seemed like a waste of my time. I was such a great anime at the start but now it's hardly even watchable and not because I need to see action all the time. I love psychological anime but hate whiny protagonists like Subaru or Shinji.

I probably wouldn't mind if I watched the whole series in one go but always hoping for the show to get better only to be disappointed again for the last month made me very salty.

And more suffering for subaru. Really wonderful and executed episode, the whole scene with subaru and Rem was just fantastic. really got me emotional as well, the feels for Rem gets immediately rejected and asked for help. grrr, cruel...
Either way is just one Amazing chemistry. and soo excited what episode 19 has to offer!! <3

So it seems we will have to wait 2 years for the next season (the time requited for the LN to stack up enough content and for the studio to start animating it).

Well that episode was ridiculously over-hyped. Hopefully it'll actually yield results and we won't need another recovery episode this season, since we've now had two.

While Subaru's flawed nature is fully understandable it does feel like the plot is being held hostage at times in this series.

Amazing to see all the self-fulfilling prophecy at work in this thread. Posting 'Inb4 rem fanboys' makes you just as immature as the ones you are forewarning, if not more, since you're baiting them.

Quite endearingly human episode, I thought Subaru was a selfish, empty, no substance douchebag, and then he tells that I was right to have my views; absolutely brilliant. Probably the most honest and deep self reflection I have ever watched in anime, shame he can't do something about his terrible choice in women, Emilia is not the best girl.

It's not Why, I think the timing was way off. I was actually starting to get emotionally invested then He said : 'I love Emilia'. I have 0 emotional invest in Emilia when watching that scene especially considering the fact that she had so little screentime. I don't care who Subaru ends up with.

Epiphany, saved from literally cackling madness and despair by Rem's absolute faith and love and the first the thing he does after resolving to not screw up anymore is say to her, "I love Emilia".

I guess we're all expecting Subaru to save the day now, so it would be really dark if he still gets uselessly destroyed or makes things worse. If there is some Full Metal Alchemist type thing going on and he is an aspect of sin "Sloth" like the crazy priest guy and the whale, then I'm wondering if he has any power other than return by death?

It is a pretty crazy strong ability, so I'm guessing not.

I blame people who hyped this episode too much, when it was not as powerful as episode 7. Is there nothing better than episode 7 and 15? I heard volume 6 is the best volume, now I worried about the future episodes.

The point of this ep was to show Subaru finally at his true breaking point (giving up on saving your friends...I don't know how anyone can get lower than that), but finally develop, accept that he's weak and continue on.

It's very uncommon when there's two romantic rivals in fiction to ingratiate one of them with the audience to this extent, and neglect the other to the point of triviality. If that's done, it should be clear as day that the one we've spent the most time with, and gotten to know better, would be the de facto love interest. That'd be Rem.

But here, you got the exact opposite happening. There's almost nothing to latch onto with Emilia except some shallow small talk. It grates against everything you've just been witness to.

The fact that this became like a shippingwars discussion is kind of the author's fault, he wrote it in a way where shippingwars would be inevitable.

You're not the one invested in Emilia. It's Subaru. People seem to forget how much he has not wavered on that. He had no time to fall in love with Rem considering how crazy he went for the past, I dunno, 6 episodes.
