I dont know if anyone else has noticed yet but the mahou shoujo himself, NTAD has retired

many other mods like Rodac (who was dead anyway), Dunois, an IRC mod, and many others I may not be aware of have recently retired from mods and are now peacefully living their lives as civilians

why did this happen?
was there another large reqruitment recently or was there maybe a scandal O.o?
what are your thoughts on it?

the usual rumors are that they become busy in real life
but i think they become too tired of the moderator job already seeing this site has huge number of people to moderate

funny thing is once you become a moderator here on MAL you become less active posting on the forums and then when you quit being a moderator you suddenly become inactive for a long long time, so we might see Rodac and NTAD again maybe years from now again

Not NTAD!

I was recently retired as an AF mod because I said the female admin was pretty much a hooker and kept saying mal is better.

i dont know, but its becoming a trending joke here whenever there is an announcement of new moderators like some users are saying "R.I.P." to the new mods

AF is a really bad anime forum that can at max pull fifteen people online at once.

MAL can break a mod.
The users can be hard to deal with.

They are probably getting counseling now.

I for one say retired mods deserve free counseling benefits

That's a shame. NTAD was among our most senior staff members, and although I do not know him as well as some of my other colleagues he has always been professional and friendly towards me. Hopefully he will continue to be active on the website even if he is no longer around in his capacity as a moderator.

Malarkey said:

I've seen him lock a few threads but I must admit it's been a long time since I last spoke to him.

Well, there is little use in having moderators who are inactive.

Malarkey said:
Dunois, an IRC mod

Speculating here, but I suspect it has something to do with real world commitments. I'm fairly sure that he'll be sticking around the IRC and other places from time to time though if anyone wishes to keep in touch with him.

Malarkey said:

Going through the list of retired moderators, the list appears to have been expanded to include all former moderators, not just those who have retired recently. The only ones I can see who might be recent retirees are Verdantly and Faust, though I could be wrong about either of them.

Malarkey said:

People have lives to lead, and there is no point retaining a moderator who does not actually moderate.

Malarkey said:

There was some recruitment a while ago, but not within the past few weeks.

Sad to see my colleagues go, but it's an inevitable part of being on this website. Most of my friends here already left a long time ago anyway.

They need MORE mods ffs, there is simply too much users for the current bunch to handle, i lurk IRC for a couple of hours during the day and its like one mib after the other ... and as of lately its mostly @Ardanaz that i see handling them (this is during the time i am active in though).

@Rodac will be missed, probably one the very few actual professional moderators on the staff team and probably the one that gets the least hate, most from what ive heard users say about him is "he was very chill to talk to"

@Niyawa comes in, drops of a comment letting us know that "he is still alive and kicking" and then disappears again . . .

And @Heddie seems to be following the same rythme now (dawg where are u ?! ;~;)

Losing @Tyrel would definitely increase the work load for a lot of other mods, as he usually deals with shit before it perpetuates.

And some IRC mods are just useless and good for nothing tbh :/ *cough* @AnnoKano @Laep @Dunois *cough*

It's easy for me to idle on IRC as my part-time job is from home and I don't have many classes. So I can be on MAL almost all day.

I wouldn't mind more mods, it would cut down on the spam. But it seems to me like users are always going to find new ways to troll no matter what rules get implemented.

Also kek as soon as you said that a mod that wasn't Ardy or Tyrel just went on a lock spree in AD

Wrong. The structure of the site breaks the mods. I've myself, found and exploited several loop holes in the rules that allowed me to do things that I really shouldn't have been doing but did and got away with for a time.
Also.
The users here aren't so bad, it's the rules and the way the mods are told to enforce them that make people assholes.
Good users can flip the fuck out when they're banned for something insane, and the shit heads who got banned for legit reasons, well... the mods have no reason to care how angry they act.

1 person can be a lot of trouble.
People can be nice and still hate something. No need to take it out on a bunch of strangers.
Everything has problems. When you fix one another comes up.
Cussing out someone for a week ban or something probably just makes them break even more rules.

well naturally that's what makes mods chill is when they accept nudes in exchange for not banning you. works 9/10 times for me.
