Awww yisss. Maya-chan next episode.

Anyway, that first case was boring, just like in the game. It was pretty much a tutorial.

So weird to not hear Phoenix. It unsettle me in some ways :P
Same for Mia.

Anyway, I think everyone should do themself a favor and play the game. The phone version is very good. I remember lying in my bed and not being able to go to sleep because I wanted to see the end of the case.

I really liked it, how cares about the animation?

It was funny and I was interested in what was going on which is way more than most anime are able to do.

That was awesome!
It was so cool that they made the effects of the game, like show the names in a box, the OBJECTION, some OSTs.

I don't see why you are calling the animation awful, it was normal for me.

Having not played the games, I really went into this one with no expectations.
With little expectation comes curious enjoyment. The case in the episode seemed overly simplistic, which I guess could be attributed to the fact that it was "purely a tutorial case" as some have mentioned. Still, it does tickle ones intelligence at times, and leaves the clues well enough that even viewers can figure out the cases, so I'm still alright with it.

Will give the show a few more episodes before making judgement, but for a first episode it really wasn't too bad.

Meh. Animation was not that great and you couldn't take this seriously because of the goofy stuff happening at the same time. I know this has a game series and this was just some tutorial case. I hope this gets more interesting later.

This was a really mediocre piece of animation. While I like the game its probably the only reason I will continue watching this show. And that awful opening is probably one of the worst I've ever seen. But considering this is A1-Pictures and I don't even think the B-Team worked on this. It feels more like the C-Team. I honestly haven't seen such crap animation in a long time.

This is a mixed bag here
Adaptation at least story wise it was faithfull
But maaaaaaan, they really rushed out the episode, i mean, even for someone like me that played the game, they rush it baaaaaaaaaaaaad, even if you take into account they removed the tutorials, is still way too much, Phoenix in no moment looks to be in doubt during the cross-examination, which doesnt let viewers feel the same pressure and think about the contradictions themselves as in the game, Sawhit breakdown was devoid of the intensity it had in the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AmFKtPLbhg
Animation wise, i thought it really nice on that 360p youtube preview, but once you get to see it in high quality, oh god, it really seems cheap
I mean, i enjoyed some scenes and it was faithfull regarding the story, but it needs to be better, it doesnt give a good first impression as an stand alone anime because it tries too much to be like the game, but at the same time it doesnt do enough to be like the game (this is the biggest contradiction Phoenix will ever face on his entire career)
No opinions on the opening, but i really liked the ending
I´ll give this episode a 6-10. I liked it, but its not a really good impression for newcomers or veteran fans . If they can fix a little animation and that super fast pacing, it can be excellent, of course, we still have to see the following trials, BUT i will cross my fingers and expect a better result.

Really rushed. I guess it's difficult to simulate the length of figuring things out in-game. At least the adaptation is generally faithful.
Hopefully other cases will be given more time to develop; this is one of the more minor cases, anyway.

As expected, so mediocre and I'm thinking that anime only watcher would think this is aimed at kids. The most dissapointing in this episode is there's no "cornered" theme. Damn

For better or for worse, its a straight adaptation of the game, down to the small animations to the ballistic reactions (heck even a there is a contradiction there.....somewhere). The CGI was really awkward to see at first, but after the panning it helped at least properly show the layout of the courtroom.

I get the feeling that this is a hit or miss for the fans of the series. Its cool to see it animated, but does it really bring anything to the table? To each their own.

Oh and if any not familiar with the series are worried about the "difficulty" of the cases - dont. There will be some csi and weird testimonies and evidence coming soon.

OP and Animation is the things that I don't like of the series. Character Design feels like the one who did it has no love for the Ace Attorney series whatsoever. Needed better episode directing. Although, the moments where they copied the sprites of the games were pretty nice and well-used.

Indeed the animation is pretty bad but at least it's faithful to the source. I think jasmine555544 needs to be taken out back and shot for their complete and utter idiocy and failure to realize that this is not a serious legal drama.

why is the Ace Attorney Pachinko better than the actual anime. Search it in youtube 5 parts I think.
1st case sucks anyway even for a 1st case (the sequels have better 1st case) so maybe there's still hope.

It was never supposed to be realistic. The whole point of the games is their over-the-top characters. This anime doesn't really do a great job of capturing that, but I don't know why you would expect it to be realistic.

lol@ the people that are crying about its animation. It's gonna be a two cour show (at least from what I've heard), usually that means that the animation won't be as good as a single cour show and even then I don't think it was that bad. Only part that looked crap was the running animation in the op but other than that, it was pretty standard.

As for the episode, I thought it was pretty enjoyable despite not having played the games. Just a nice clean start to the series imo. I think most of the complaints are pretty nitpicky tbh like this is only the first episode, let's wait and see whats in store.

The game franchise is a parody/satire on japanese court system and its commitment rate.
It is not supposed to be realistic.

in case of games like this. That's not a good thing. Look at Danganronpa. This is basically same style of "adaptation" where game scenes are literally copy pasted with stuff cut in between, making the whole thing feel dull and lifeless.

The OP was generic as fuck. It made me lose my hype for this show after seeing it once. Nonetheless, seeing an animation of the very first court case was a great nostalgic ride. The tension I felt in the games were partially present while I was watching the anime too.

To be fair, I don't know anything about the source material so I didn't know what the series is about or how it's supposed to be like. I don't mind the over the top characters since that's how most of them are like in anime (even though they came off as being stupid) but it's mainly the way the case is being presented in the court that really irks me since I expect it to reflect at least some degree of realism in terms of how the court works and its legal system (I mean how is it even allowed for the main character to defend for his friend because as far as I know it's not allowed?). I just read through some comments that say this episode is based off the tutorial, which could be why the case is so simplistic. Either that or this is one of those cases where game to anime adaption simply don't work.

I know. I know. That's what I mean by "at least". Since it does indeed only represent the tutorial at this point I am quite hopeful that the main story will be adapted well enough. What I couldn't stand was exactly the type of attitude that Estherella has just presented to us. The whole story is not meant to represent anything realistic. If they had seen any of the source material they would have known that... I mean there are some faaaaar more unrealistic things to come.

Didn't like it that much. Since I'm mainly a pc gamer and not playing games a lot anymore I haven't played the games. But I know from pictures posted in the internet about the "objection". Japanese names of the chars seem a bit boring. Text box stuff in the anime (making it look like a scene taken from a game) was okay.

The sound when they discovered hints was a bit annoying. The case was "okay" - not boring but also not too interesting.

I'll watch a few more episodes because I want to see that cool prosecutor guy - then I'll decide if I'm going to watch it till end.

For now as someone that does not know the games it only seems "for fans only" to me.

The law system seems a bit strange (I might not like that) - already read a bit about in in the wikipedia entry about the game series. (Made it seem like the guys need to prove their innocence instead other way round.)

It was enjoyable and faithful to the game :) my only complaint just the animation looks choopy t times, but I can bear with it eh

I'm actually super stoked about this! It's following the game perfectly so far, down to the expressions. I cracked up on Phoenix being late for school stereotype on bike, he needed toast in his mouth!

I also really like how they've approached Larry. Somehow I found him less irritating in this episode than in the games.

I've been a massive GS fan since about 9 years ago and got my best friend into it in the last couple years so when she's back from holiday I'm gonna enjoy seeing her reaction to this

I've heard out of this game but i never played it, so I can't judge it from that aspect...

As an anime only though, I wasn't that pleased, I must admit. I mean the artwork isn't bad, animation isn't top notch eventually and the story seems to be a little naive for now, but it's not bad at all. Maybe I expected more, because of hype from the video game fans.

But, we'll see...

This seems kind of like an odd adaptation.
The courtroom scenes felt much more rigid in this type of production than they would have felt in the context of a game... and the animation wasn't all that impressive here.

Plus, there was that line from Chihiro about "finding the evidence" which felt like an in-game tutorial. Super bizarre to see it in animated form, here.

Honestly, as somebody who hasn't played the games before, this is just making me want to go play the games instead.

I dislike the animation with passion, they could've at least made it a little less lively.

The art style wasn't too mature or too dark in the game, but it had a good balance of lighthearted and heavy scenes. The ambiance in the game was dark when it needed to be.

And this is why adapting a videogame sometimes is not the best idea, some of the "comedy" moments fits in the game but seeing it in anime was weird and awkward (like phoenix saying he didnt know What to say thats funny in game because thats What he says when you pick the bad choice, another scene is when the guilty starts becoming crazy again fits in the game somehow here was just very random)

Not to say the episode was boring, even for someone who has played the games...I dont wanna think for those who hasnt. I know its the first case, butin the game you to thought it by playing, so it makes it fun, but here your only seeing this boring case and not much...

And Yuki Kaji doesnt fit Phoenix voice, all I can think whenever he talks is Eren Fucking Jeager and it makes me wanna Punch walls.

Why you even watching japanese productions then? If you don't like japanese things, just watch 'murican movies. And GTFO with localisation.
I think it's just cause everyone's so used to the localized names. It's not that we hate Japanese things, but it's a pain to learn all the new names that we're super unfamiliar with, that's all.
