Because they're pretty guys, that's the whole appeal of K-pop and K-Dramas.

Quick answer: Really good looking actors/actresses
Great sense of humor
They know how to do a good love story
They tend to be charming as hell, and fairly clever
They're usually really fun???

Quicker answer: Really pretty asian boys. /end thread

I genuinely could not care less, lol. And is paying someone to enhance your looks (or correct flaws) supposed to be a bad or shameful thing?

I've already seen a lot of photos of k-pop idols before they got their boy-band makeover, and yeah, in most cases there's a huge difference, but honestly who cares? I doubt most drama fans are living in some little bubble where they think these people were born looking absolutely flawless, lol. Hell, even just getting a stylist and a proper makeup artist can do wonders for just about anyone. If you're unable to find them attractive purely because of the imagined horrors of the celebrity/idol transition process then I don't know what to say.

Pretty much every celebrity has had work done, it isn't just Korean ones. Hell, even Marilyn Monroe had a nose job (possibly more). It's not like this shit is news to anyone.

Plastic surgery does not mean I'm not allowed to have a huuuuuge ladyboner for Jaejoong, Kiseop, and Luhan.

Youn kown that Young South Koreans call their country ‘hell’ and look for ways out

SEOUL — Don’t be fooled by the bright lights, the zingy K-pop music, the ubiquitous technology. South Korea is, in the minds of many young people here, a living hell — and they’re not going to take it anymore.

i like historical k-dramas. the acting, the clothes design, the setting, the sword fight are all well-done. never cared about k-pop though.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

I'm well aware of this, and of the country's insanely high youth suicide rate and unattainable expectations re:education and career. I don't, however, see what that has to do with prettyboy celebs.

Because they live in Europe.

Anyways, I'm Korean, of course I'm going to know stuff about what goes on there and I do like K-Dramas/K-Pop (although to be fair, not all of it), but I usually don't talk about it online because I think the Western fanbase is as bad as the Western anime fanbase. The haterbase is cringe though.

This. Most of them are like that because they're young, though, and definitely grow out of it. It's like One Direction fans and Bieber fans, they're just dumb kids with an obsession.

Koreaboo.

I personally listen to kpop, but I haven't watched many k-dramas. I just love the kind of music they tend to put out, because it's really catchy edm stuff and the different concepts they have in videos. Not to mention the solo artists are equally amazing as the groups, because the singers actually tend to have really powerful voices, like K.will and Ailee.

Well I got to thank @semss for bringing me here. I guess people like K-dramas because it's different from US or UK TV shows. Also you musn't forget that many K-dramas are also anime fans, why do you think the K-dramas adaptation of Boys over Flowers, Itazura Na Kiss got very popular and led to maybe a lot of anime fans to branch out to K-dramas.

AllenVonStein said:

Also I like to add even before Boys over Flowers K-drama became well-known and popular around the world. K-dramas was gaining fanbases in early 2000's. These articles may help you get a better understanding:

2004 article from Chicago Tribune-Korean soaps lure unlikely audience

2006 article from Associated Press-Korean Drama Craze Reaches United States

2006 Hawaiian magazine article-Hello to Hallyu: HAWAI‘I IS CRAZY FOR KOREAN DRAMAS, AND EVEN PLAYED A ROLE IN INTRODUCING THEM TO MAINLAND AUDIENCES.

I hope these help.

I have, my family members are a part of the industry. Most celebrities are natural, but Korean citizens are 20% plastic. Also most surgeries done in Korea are actually from other Asian countries visitign to have a quick surgery done.

Koreaboos are scary as fuck!

Has anyone actually seen K-drama?

It's fucking TRASH!

The acting is abysmal....but who cares cuz they all look soooo pretty!

And K-Pop?

It's like going back to 1999-2000 when we had boy bands here in America talking about "Baby this and Baby that"...

Look, if you like that....OK, cool....but stop acting like that shit is something special or unique!

Korean dramas are just terrible. I've seen a decent amount, and they all have the exact same cliches. It feels like I'm watching the same old shit. Not my type of shows.

K pop mostly sucks, but I know that Psy and G dragon have some damn good songs. I can't really fuck with that k pop shit though. Grown wearing makeup, plastic surgery, skinny jeans, etc. Fuck that feminine ass shit.

They are wearing lots of makeup so they deceptively seem to be effeminate, but they are under a strict training regiment to stay in shape so under those clothes most kpop stars have six packs and could wreck your ass.

They are both pretty and strong, what else could you ask for in a man?

Wow, a bunch of people bumped a 4 year old thread just to tout their ethnocentrism. CRINGE!!!

I'll tell you why I like K-pop. They're bringing in international producers to constantly push the boundaries of music, and music messaging through music videos, in a way that has not been imitated in any other country. In Korea, indie, R&B, and ballads are big, and because they're one foot in the hip hop culture, they're free from all the trappings of American hip hop that's so obsessed with violence and success. And part of that is the same reason Japanese metal bands could effortlessly switch between metal and pop, whereas metal bands are constricted to this lame "hardcore" badass front that's been steeped in the industry for too long. I guess that's why Marty Friedman of Megadeth moved to Japan!

But back to Kpop. Nowhere else will you hear production with so many layers and instruments that seem so fine tuned to push an emotional effect. The production is where Kpop bands have left Jpop and Cpop -- and American pop -- in the dust. They have hired American industry heads and learned from the best. Whereas American pop music is often that same old loop throughout the whole song, Kpop infuses various genres of jazz, soul, big band, rock, reggae, and others, where every song has a drop and chorus instrumentation that sounds significantly different. They've mastered adding snares and percussion to develop subsequent verses, to keep the production on the edge.

To summarize, Kpop isn't lazy like American music.

And as for dramas, I don't really watch dramas, but Korean movies have taken that old movie feel and mastered the formula. And if you hate the actors because they have a better skincare regime than you, then that's your own insecurity speaking.

those new wave K-pop idols have a very successful formula and it shows. can't argue there. they are clearly talented entertainers as well, just not something that holds my attention for too long. I think there was one bts song that I liked but I can't remember which one.

I tend to prefer the late 90s kpop and also Psy is great.

as for kdrama I still need to get into it but I made an account on MDL and added 'Coin Locker Girl' so far as well as a few romance ones I was forced to add recommended

here's the trailer for that former one though it's a Japanese dub

ah.. East of Eden. that was one of the first k-dramas I've watched/borrowed from the library, it was addicting. Never watched Giant before. I miss those old makjang/melodramas I hardly see them nowadays (the last makjang I saw was The Last Empress back in 2018-19) I am still addicted to watching those kind of plots/villains even if it's cliche/draggy.
I spent more time watching k-dramas for the past few years than anime but for some reason I started losing interest in most 2019-2020 k-dramas. I just couldn't get into a lot of hyped/popular dramas even though they're highly rated on MDL, like Hotel Del Luna, Crash Landing On You, Hospital Playlist (slice of life bores me lol), etc.

agreed (for the ones I enjoyed but some are still meh). For some reason I was never really interested in most American tv shows/dramas even though I live in Canada - maybe since I'm Asian I'm naturally more interested in Asian things.
When I was younger I loved anime but then I got into some k-dramas in 2013 and started watching lakorns too last year.
The men - well I like how most of them are clean shaven and keep fit, plus they dress better too, I find Asian fashion more appealing than American clothing.
The last rom com I enjoyed was Perfume even though the ML is not a stereotypically good looking guy.

As for K-Pop I like some songs here and there, I like listening to K-drama OST songs & BGM.

Same here. I was still exposed to American tv-shows when I was little, but I was mainly watching Asian dramas since my household is Asian. As for the style: I got to agree too. The fashion style that they have in Asia is better than what we have here in America.
