The whole concept of "Revival" is just stupid.
The anime is giving way too many hints, so much for the mystery factor. I'm gonna laugh my ass off if the killer turns out to be who I think it is.

It's okay. This anime is not about finding who is the culprit. It's about finding the way to prevent a crime from happening.

my doubt to the teacher and kenya start here... ( EP 3 before ED song )

I believed it was him asking sensei to get this "task" for Satoru and Kayo so they would have time to preapare the party, but now that I look at it again, it looks pretty dark...
Though, I still WANT to believe that it was about the birthday party.

I've just checked, Kenya says it's a short story by Poe called "The Switched Man". But I have the full collection of short stories by Poe and that story doesn't exist. Google doesn't give me more result...so I would say it's either the sub team being lazy and not checking what the original title is, or he just made that title up on the spot (which would not be that surprising since I doubt a lot of 10 year old kids read Poe ?)
Now on the other hand if someone has an idea of what story it could be...? I haven't read them all but that title doesn't evoke much. Maybe |i]William Wilson[/i] but extreeeemely remotely...on the other hand, "the Switched Man" and "The Town Where Only I Am Missing/Erased" being linked would make more sense I guess ?

Thanks for the response. The actual title that he says in Japanese would be 入れ替わった男 (meaning the replaced man / the switched man / the substituted man / etc....). I tried googling it, but no real luck here either.... So perhaps it was made up? Not really sure what to think of it.... or why they even would make up a book for Poe in the first place.

EDIT :

So after doing some research, I think Kenya might have actually been talking about the subject matter of the book and not the actual title.....Like you said, there is no book called "The Switched Man", so that's out of the question. But there are apparently stories that are somewhat related to that subject. From what I read ( http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q14130661754 )...There is stories about someone killing their own doppleganger, and where a doctor and a patient switch places?

It is indeed just another case of a lazy translator. I'm pretty sure the Poe story in question is 'A Man of the Crowd'. Reading it again with the relationship between Kenya and Satoru in mind certainly provided me with a few interesting points to ponder about. I'm definitely recommending the read. Especially since it it is pretty short and easily available on the net.

Thank you ! I haven't read this short story yet, so I know what to make of my next half hour thanks to you =P

I was suspecting at the teacher from the second episode, and I'm more and more suspecting as the episodes pass. I'm glad Satoru has a partner in crime now in each timeline and that he is slowly delaying the day of the murder. Also, does Satoru trigger revival by himself? I thought that was something he can't control..

As good as this show is at creating the atmosphere and switching things up when it's actually necessary..... I cannot help but think that this last revival-by-sheer-willpower was pushing things way too far. I would have actually believed it better if he struggled against the cops in trying to catch the real killer and was pushed into a lake (ergo putting him in mortal danger because he was handcuffed and couldn't swim properly) which would trigger a relatively more realistic "revival", but just standing and screaming at the top of his lungs to go back in time???? Seriously I cannot take this part seriously...

Still, aside from that specific issue, everything else about this show has been top notch thus far. I hate the fact that each episode ends in a cliffhanger, leaving us with absolutely no respite every single week, but it keeps us all coming back for more.

I cannot wait to see how they finish things off. Just hope they don't do some Anime-Original shit Ending just to squeeze things into the last 5 episodes.

Well theres a thing called "guilty until proven innocent" in japan.

You havent seen the worst of it. Many animes show just how dumb japanese police are (no offense here). Take Detective Conan for example. They can't solve a case without Conan's help. None! Nada! Zero! And Nakamori failed to catch KId the phantom thief for...what? Over ten years?? He never succeeded, not even once. And he fell for the same trick over and over again. Honestly.

But on the bright side, the police in Death Note are quite brilliant.

I laughed a lot. Police in Death Note are as incompetant as the ones in Detective Conan, they can't do anything without L. Only Light's father was somehow useful

Very true, to all these comments. And yeah DN police were dumb too. L did everything.

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!!
To all of you who are complaining about the "convenience" of revival, read my post on #251.

As for why he thinks if this is his last time... Have you not paid attention in eps 1? Its stated clearly that revival only happens whenever something bad is happening. If Satoru is locked in the jail, how can he trigger revival if he has no way of knowing if something bad's gonna happen since he'll be all alone by himself in a secluded location??

The revival thing in this episode could have been an asspull only if we hadn't known how it works. From what we've been shown so far, it only occurs whenever he hits a dead end or people close to his surrounding are in danger which then sends him back in time to the point where he can resolve them. Keep in mind that a blue butterfly always appears before the revival happens.

^ Satoru was going to be sent back in time whether he wanted or not because he had hit a dead end.

Sure you could call it a plot device since it's moving the plot forward but not an asspull.

This show has a really good way of making everyone look like they're guilty of something, especially with those facial expressions. For a second I was even doubting Satoru lol. Maybe he's completely mastered his revival powers as an adult and can now truly go back in time ;D ;D Just kidding (or I really hope so)

I wouldn't be surprised if Kenya was involved. And the teacher. And maybe even Yuuki? But I guess we'll see next episode. And that cliffhanger, gah.

Heh yeah.

They're just red herrings though.

I'm gonna go with my theory that the people shown with red eyes will be greatly affected by the butterfly effect. Everybody shown with red eyes has a pretty big role to play in the murder case.

The only thing is that we don't know how Kenya or Yashiro fit into it yet. I guess we're starting to get Kenya's role and it seems like everyone suspects Yashiro as the murderer anyways so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Whose level headed and use their brains? The cops in Boku dake? I can't see that at all.

Anyway I don't think you should be so hard on people for not noticing what he said in episode 1. Even that explanation isn't that clear. What does something bad happening entail? Does someone have to die, just get hurt, etc? And didn't the beginning also say that he would keep going back in time constantly unless he fixed things? (Was it fixed things or just do something differently?)

1. We need a thorough real-life scientific explanation on how this ability really works! We want physics, formulas, and reliable sources, like doctors and teachers who have studied the ways time travel.... actually not just travel, but this specific method of time travel..... REVIVAL time travel.

The anime isn't sci-fi and is tagged supernatural for a reason.
2. How does Saturo do revival on command? I totally forgot how revival works.... but because Satoru wanted revival to work, and it worked, it must be a technique that he can control. There's no way it could have happened otherwise, because.... well that doesn't matter. Anyways, this is exactly why this crap is a plot hole.... I was watching this show the other day, and saw him go back in time.... and I was like, woa, plot hole!

It's not a command and Satoru has no control over it. He already stated it in the first episode that it happens right before something bad happens and as if someone put him there with the order to prevent the problem.
3. How do you really know that butterfly really means that a revival is going to happen?

Because they always appear right before the revival happens. Just look at the times they appeared in episode 1.

First it was seen when the truck was about to hit a kid

The second time it was seen was when the culprit was attempting to kidnap a kid

And the third time it was shown was when Satoru was framed for his mother's death

Throwing every bit of my common sense aside, it doesn't actually say that butterflies = revival.

The show doesn't have to spoonfeed you every little information. Ever heard of "show, don't tell"?

I was talking about death note.
My apologies for sounding harsh. But it's annoying how people don't pay attention while watching a mystery anime and miss important details and need to be explained later on. Indeed, it's not clear, and the word "bad things" can be pretty vague. But judging from what happened so far (car accident, abduction, murder (x2), arrest), we can tell that revival only can be triggered by serious incidents. Which means, Satoru can't trigger any more revivals if he's in jail.
