Do you stereotype people based on their music tastes?

I mean generally metal/rock/punk music lovers are stereotyped as violent or emo/goth people.

So what are your stereotypes for the following genres?:

Here are mine:

pop/kpop/jpop/etc:
easy going/laid back/ romance based personality

rock/punk(etc):
justdoit shialabouf / energized/ blunt based personality

metal/screamo:
violent/ hating/ elitist based personality

classical/instrumental:
calm / reserved / organized/ civil based personality ?

electro:
jumpy/energetic personality

rap:
dreaming/ cocky/ overconfident / showoffy personality (depending)

ORRR

Do you feel your music tastes stereotype doesn't represent you?

discuss all yer rants and shinanigans based on the topic of music tastes

-pop/kpop/jpop/etc:
weebs and underaged. Mainstream rubbish that is specifically targeted at teens and young adults. Usually comes with dance videos.

-rock
old. Who else but fathers and grandfathers even listens to this anymore.

-metal
nerds. This genre mostly have songs about struggles and adventures. Half the time I wonder if the composers are D&D players.

-classical
cultured/trying to appear intelligent. It's really either someone is genuinely interested in this, or is only pretending to by saying they like Beethoven or Mozart.

-instrumental/electronic
turbo nerds. If you listen to this, then chances are you are also listening to movie/video game/anime OSTs

-rap/punk/hiphop
dumb. Simple beats and rhymes. Genres that generally cater to dumb people.

This is a horribly misused term and makes me cringe. The actual 'screamo' bands are far from metal, and are more punk- offshoots; the music itself sounds very different (it's also shit, mind you). I've heard people call Black Metal/Extreme Thrash Metal 'screamo', and it's just depressing. If anything, it's a word that non- metal listeners have latched onto and used, as I see it, to 'pass off' any music with 'screaming' in it as such.

I don't necessarily expect non- metal listeners to use the numerous sub- genre titles, but at least stop saying 'screamo'.

I generalize people's intelligence if all they listen to is 1 genre but I don't really stereotype everyone. I listen to each of those categories, and Japanese/Kpop or whatever is not a genre of music, it's simply a language of which the music in, so I don't get how someone could be a weeabo for liking Japanese music, considering there are like 127 million of them. I love foreign music, & I thoroughly enjoy every genre except for country with the exception of Johnny Cash-whose music was embraced other genres(which is why it was good)

Yes, tie them together with a word that 9 times out of 10 isn't actually applicable. "Hurr, there's screaming so let's call it 'screamo'." It sounds like a bad joke. Metal classifications have been forming since the early 80's, so I think you can understand why a term like 'screamo', which is a relatively recent term that actually is never used to describe what the word was intended to describe, is very frustrating to see. As I mentioned, 'screamo' wasn't even a metal classification to begin with.

I'm also tying them together because they both share generally "violent/aggressive" attributes. I'm already aware that not every metal song has screaming vocals (I listen often listen to metal instrumentals anyways)

Such classifications are bs, since people are incomparably more complicated
in feelings and emotions than any existing music. BUT it's an interesting theory.
My absolute favorite is ambient and frankly it matches my personality perfectly.

Do you have a missing chromosome, by any chance?

I don't make a huge fuss about correct subgenre- naming, but when you say things like 'Black, thrash, death, all the same shit m8 rofl' and 'Sounds like an emo child named them lol', it makes me wonder why I even instigated this conversation in the first place. I listen to stuff from indie folk to fantasy metal, excluding country music and music that's 100% screaming.

Country music: Probably a hick, "country pride!!!!", "I love my horse :)", wears a camo hoodie and farm boots to school (seriously a group of kids in my school)

100% screaming: "nobody understands me", scene haircuts, labeling yourself as a punk/rebel even though you're not anything close to one, telling everyone that they're awful people for liking popular music

Even less impressive than stereotyping is an attempt to build some kind of patrician music core. It's as if some of these people just read popular music blogs then parrot the opinion that shits on as many demographics as possible. That's just lazy. No true elitist takes a shortcut like that.

Take your time. Build something that makes people truly hate you.

To me, it's wrong to stereotype people based on anything. I don't make assumptions regarding people's musical tastes based on their appearance or personality. Then again, I'm not a one-genre music listener either - if it sounds good to me, I'll listen to it, regardless of its genre.

I kind of stereotype those who listen to rap and metal. They seemingly resort to genres that cater to the lowest common denominator and would be better off expanding their horizons to greater feats in the expansive medium that is music.
