Nah, I don't hide my interests at all. It doesn't seem to have any negative impact, since people keep me around.

I tell most people that I end up talking to a fair amount, but I don't like getting into discussions about anime, I find it really boring and annoying. So I end up regretting telling some people I watch anime when they actually start talking to me about it

Daamn, I wish I was a part of a fujoshi-alliance... ; n ;

I don't openly hide it per say, but I don't openly talk about it either. I have a bunch of anime stickers all over my binders and stuff, but I won't start talking to somebody about anime unless they initiate the conversation.
Too lazy to make a signature. F*** it.

I rarely get asked but whenever I do I tell the truth. I don't really talk to people all that much anyway and I'm not really close to anyone so it shouldn't bother them. The people I do tell are actually interested and I when talking to someone I don't bring anime up randomly. If it does bother them and they judge me harshly then they are ignorant and just plain stupid. I hate the backlash anime fans get just because of how some people see anime as just hentai, so they think that anime fans are just a bunch of perverted weeaboos. I've heard it many times irl. It bothers me but eventually but I just shake it off because they are just idiotic dumbasses. I hate how being an anime fan causes this stigma because of how harsh others can be and it makes me feel bad, which is why I don't hide it because I don't want watching anime to be seen as a bad thing.

Similar to other people here, i don't hide it, but i don't go telling people about it either. It's just stuff i watch, why bother talking about it unless the other person is interested. I have received funny looks when people find out i watch it though :\

Solution proposition: Make friends who have similar interests OR aren't assholes who will judge you for your hobbies. Find it in yourself to not be embarrassed for liking a form of TV shows.

TL;DR: Basically, be friends with other nerds or whatever.

And no I don't, because ^

My friends know but I don't tell people here in Japan because the stereotype of otaku is really bad. It's just for the best to keep it hidden.

I hide it sure, don't want to be ostracised from my community. Besides, I'd never get a another boyfriend again if people knew I watched anime.

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she's buying a stairway to heaven

Exactly, I won't hide that I like anime, but I don't run around advertising it either. I think anime as a hobby generally does carry a negative stigma though, typically from folks who know nothing about it, but that's another subject.

Well it seems like most of us do the same. I personally dont go out of my way to hide it, but it depends on the situation. You can usually tell how the person asking you feels about anime, so I generally answer accordingly. My best friends know I like it and ive even managed to get them to watch Death Note, Monster, and a few others. Ive never told anyone outside MAL that I like romance anime for example tho. Its not that i feel particularly embarrassed about it, but in my country if I ever said im into Maid Sama for example it would be a nice way of social suicide, which sucks because maid sama is gawd and misaki everything i want my future wife to be.

On a side note, have any of you thought maybe we hide it too much? Like if im being realistic im somewhat decently good looking , have good grades and have an active social life, so why the fuck should i have to be ashamed of watching whatever the hell i want. I feel that if everyone who watched anime was more open about it we would all realize what a huge fanbase anime has and how many people actually watch it, and who knows maybe it would become a standard topic of conversation, but by hiding it we are just aknowledging that we should feel embarrassed for it.

I don't hide it, but I don't advertise it either. More than half of the members of my group of friends watch anime, too (some more casually than others), so with them there's no reason to hide it.

It's not a conversation topic I'd like to have with people at my workplace or school acquaintances though.

I like what I like. I don't care if people don't like anime, or if it would be something to get made fun of about. I have anime bracelets I wear to school daily, and necklaces.

Although, It's not something I have discussions about with just anyone, either.

I didn't hide it but I didn't go around announcing it either like some people do.

It became easier when I quit anime in general

"Do you like anime?"

*thinks back to all those wasted hours watching highschool harem shows*

"No."

People doesn't have reason to ask either.
If anyone bother to ask what is your hobby, it smells problems. Job interviews do that often. Also stupid topic on date. All answers you give are often wrong

It's one of those interests I would avoid mentioning if I ever got full-time employment. Anime still has a social stigma attached to it.
The only people I mention my interest to are some friends and family.

Beyond that, I'd prefer being an relatively unknown introvert in real life.

Not at all. Why should I? It's not like anime where the only thing that interest me or that I know about. There's people craving for romance novels, they don't hide it, and that doesn't make them freaks. I don't understand why I should hide what I like.

Though I won't go out yelling "I LIKE ANIIIMEEEEEEEEEE".

All of the men at work know I like anime, but only because they've said they like it first and I've chimed into the conversation. None of the women know because women tend to be far more judgmental and... yeah. I don't want them knowing.

If anyone from work ever found my profile here I'd be very upset. They don't need to know I'm this big of a loser.

Yes, I hide it. My family found out I watch anime and started thinking I'm weird, so I think everyone else will be the same way. Plus where I live I'm pretty sure I'm the only one into anime. I don't want to be judged by something that I like, so I'll avoid the topic, even if it's brought up by another person, it could be a trap to be made fun of.

I am in a community that anime is look on as the common tentacle porn trope. So talking about anime is hard except for the big three or dragon ball z. However I have to keep my knowledge on a down low because people stopped watching very early on so I have to remember the dub version of Naruto of Rock Lee vs Garra in the exams.

No. I freely express it as a mean to seek fellow anime fans, which can be a rarity in Singapore. I don't really face problems or prejudice from other people whenever I mentioned my anime fandom, save the very rare exception during my middle school years when my counselor was convinced that anime has some kind of mystical force that will suck you into addiction. She was probably high, ironically.

If they bring it up first or I'm in a setting like Japanese class (everyone there watches some anime, obviously). But I don't usually go out of my way to bring it up or hide it, even though a lot of people watch anime here. It's because they're mostly casual watchers (mainstream) or really into certain genres (otome/fujoshi/shoujo).

1) I can only say so much about Utapri or Shokugeki no Souma. =__=
2) In my experience, people who flaunt it try to convert everyone. :/
