Plus I'm pretty sure that the anime would make more money than the novel so I don't know how you've reached the conclusion that the anime was released to boost novel sales?
I assume you only read the manga?
The manga is sorely lacking, the light novel is a far superior story overall.
Even without reading the LN its still a pretty simple story to follow once you work out the timelines.
