The predictable "strategy" and the over-reaching psycho-analysis, especially with the infamous chess game, are a little too much for some people to suspend disbelief. Same could be said for Death Note.

It's certainly not a bad show by any means, I'd probably call it one of the better shows out there, but it has it's flaws that certain people find it hard to look past, especially in the second season.

And I didn't even notice those flaws at the time either, and the ending occupied my mind for so long, it took a while for me to finally find notice the issues with the series.

There are also those people that will swear it off because it's mecha, which is ignorance at it's finest.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

People often criticize it because many things are similar to Legend of the Galactic Heroes which came much before but nothing is original, even LOTGH took from Space Battleship Yamato, Ashita no Joe etc.
The Code Geass series are good but I feel the second season kind of lost it's direction and also had some plot holes.

This pretty much. First season was nice and enjoyable, second season threw so hard and got distracted with random shit.

Still, dat ending though

I might not have cared for the ending much because I knew before I watched the series. But then again I cared alot about one other ending despite knowing it beforehand, so who knows?

The plot was really messy at time, especially in R2, but if you can overlook that, Code Geass is great.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I could name a ton of reasons but why list them when you can read reviews that sum it up? Take a look at some of the AniDB and MAL reviews here to get an idea.

I rated Code Geass high. People say it's not very quality type anime. Truthfully it isn't in many aspects. Sometimes it tries to over-pull rabbits from the hat and ridiculous over the top shit that it becomes kind of a facepalm situation, not to mention silly school-life stuff like pizza and cat chasing episodes in the middle of serious business etc.
I believe that is the premise in which your friends say is bad. If you watch Valvare it does the same but even worse with more silliness and strange behaviors but unfortunately worst protagonist. Especially the main is 100 times worse. It was like a Shitty version of Code Geass really.

Anyway the defense to such arguments for me is that despite the fact that they are right the show is unbelievably addicting and intriguing, it manage to not fall in utter ridicule levels as Valvare did and the characters are very fun and different making a mix of a show you will never regret watching and never get bored watching.

There's nothing really wrong with it, people just hate it because it's popular. If one tried to dig flaws on every show like they do with Code Geass, he'd rate everything a 1.

The problem is that random tasteless wannabe elitists that think they can excuse anything because they watch logh expected it to be like logh when the intention of the show clearly isn't. Code Geass is supposed to be over the top and it sucesses at that. R2 kinda puts the viewer in a hazy direction since it goes from some average fare compared to the first season in the beginning(didn't mind it still cuz im in love with the show, lelouch is my waifu) and then it gets all symbolic. Even including R2 I think it's flaws are overdramatized as well because the essence of the show was still there, so I don't think it was a dramatic quality change

Biggest joke in mal, I could make what I've seen of logh so far sound like garbage based on it's hiccups but I won't because I'm a mature individual that can enjoy both shows for what they are and that doesn't go tryhard mode on to alienating a fanbase, calling them plebs and whatnot. If lelouch is worse than average starcraft players then a bunch of commanders in logh are babies

Ignore anyone who tells you to read a review on why it's bad...the fact that all they can tell you is to read rants that nitpick at the plot just goes to show that they don't really have a reason of their own for why it's so bad (or at least, as bad as they say it is).

If you found it good, that means you found it good. Don't let other peoples opinions cloud your own.

People say a lot of things about it, including, but not limited to, the following:

"It's melodramatic."
"It's over-the-top."
"It's more theatrical than logical."
"It has too many plot twists."
"It has too many plot holes."
"The characters' actions make no sense."
"It's a Death Note rip-off."
"It has annoying characters."
"It's execution is bad."
"Its themes aren't 'sophisticated' enough."

What most of these people don't realize is that some of the aforementioned complaints were intentionally made a part of the show. But whatever. I loved it, and I have my reasons for that. If someone doesn't like the show and actually has good reasoning behind why, than that's just his/her opinion, and it happens to be different from yours. Not everyone's going to love the same shows.

Aside from a few good tracks it was just not memorable. Out of the 4 OSTs, there's one track that I MIGHT listen to, every few months.

The best track is the one that wasn't even released.

Ok I think the OP was quite bad but Madder Sky, Stories, Continued story are all really good.

Some pretty good songs + not memorable ones =/= bad music

If you like it, you like it. That should be all that matters. If your friends can't express why they don't like it, that's their problem.

Personally, I really liked the first season and felt sad the second one waste a lot of time.

These criticisms, to me, are stupid. Code Geass is meant to be a bombastic over the top show. Hell, the voice acting in English AND Japanese are both bombastic and theatrical to add to this. In terms of it being a Death Note rip-off, there are plenty of 'the ends justify the means' characters, and Light Yagami is far from the first.

These I can agree with. By the time R2 rolls around, there are so many plot twists and turns that it just gets tiring and far less believable. There are plenty of useless characters that serve little to no purpose in the plot at large.

The characters' actions make no sense. HOLY FUCK. I couldn't agree more for the most part.

In the end, if you enjoyed it, then it's a worthwhile show. It certainly was for me.

Just because an anime aims to be over-the-top does not make it a good over-the-top anime. Just like an anime that aims to be deep might not always be deep, and so on...
The over-the-top element in CG came across as extremely cheesy and annoying, and the story did seem melodramatic.

I thought it was good.

There was a lot of Deus ex Machina though.

"Oh no, we're totally fucked"
"Oh wait nvm here comes a new mech from absolutely nowhere"

I don't remember exactly which episode that exchange was from, but you probably get the point.

Also there were way too many characters who really didn't need to be there.

The problem in Code Geass R1 is that its the best anime of all time and some people don't like that.
now people got bored from this , some years ago code geass was often in every top 5 but later people wanted a change so they started to search for flaws in every possible way ( so pathetic)
i think the #1 anime here FMA Brotherhood has more flaws and stupid scenes than CG.
now look .. people like you (OP) you actually made a thread just to know why its bad because some of your friends hated it , you see? you are doing like everyone
just trying to find something to make you follow this pathetic trend .
i don't understand how someone can say this anime is bad
great Story , Plot Twists, great Characters, one of the best OST ever,action,emotions....
now you may have seen some stupid people talking about originality ,, well this LOTGH there was star wars before it .
Death Note ( they were released in the same year )
CG actually won Tokyo anime award along with Death Note for the best tv anime
ofcourse there are some people who may not find this their type of favorite anime
but at least have some common sense when you are reviewing it
the same goes for Death Note ( it also got hated because the same reasons).

The only unoriginality that comes from Code Geass is the mecha part, which wasn't the best. However, I do have to disagree with your other points. There is barely any fan service in R1 and the plot is one of the best plots I have personally ever seen. The characters are a shady problem, as I do admit that no other character in the anime looks good because they all suck compared to LeLouch's character design, which in-turn shows how god-like LeLouch is. Finally, the music in Code Geass is amazing, have you not been listening this entire time?

I must be one of the very few that think that Code Geass is a little over praised. Do I think its a bad show? No I think it's decent but not something I overly enjoyed watching.

On my 2nd time watching it right now, I really do want to enjoy it but never been fan of the character models (spaghetti arms and huge heads).

However I do believe it is worth watching, I'd recommend it to anyone.
