Wow, this anime has epic written all over it...unbelievable how it took this long to actually get subs for this! I laughed pretty hard when he punched that guy and he actually set the tree on fire...Can't wait for more episodes, the music for this stuff is pretty badass.

I really enjoyed the first episode. I have a feeling that after this series is over I'll be hooked and wanting more. Hopefully the novels get brought over, or the anime continues.

I liked the first episode a lot. Really nice animation, character design, and music. I also really loved the background art, in particular the scene when the brother is off getting water for Guin, and she walks over that cliff to look at the countryside. Really beautiful artwork there.

I agree that the brother is really useless now, and am glad to hear that he will develop eventually (though who knows if that will occur during the anime)

The 'twins in a dangerous forest' thing reminded me a little bit of Jyu-oh-sei, where the twins Thor (badass) and Rai (completely useless) have to try to survive the planet they are unexpectedly dumped on. Too bad they didn't have a Guin to help them XD

Oh, and I also liked the ending song. Is it by the same person who did the theme song for LA Corda D'Oro, "Brand New Breeze"? Sounds like her. I need to look it up, I am so lazy XD

As I started to watch this, I thought it was setting up to be pretty typical (not something that I care for in other words) That, and I spent alot of the first 7 minutes wishing the black nights WOULD catch the little whiner, at least......

Then we got to the part where they meet Guin, and that's where things seemed to just take off.

For one, I do believe that's the first time I've literally seen somebody get buried...that was cool. Also, the action sequences, both the first one with the black nights and the one later on with the ugly ghoul thingies were beautifully executed. I could almost watch this one for the fight scenes alone. Then there's just something about a very large, ripped, leopard-man beating the living crud out of anything that stands in his path that just screams pure WIN. I just hope that the plot develops in such a way to keep my attention.

On a side-note, I am reminded of my childhood staying up late to try and catch movies like 'Masters of the Universe', 'Conan the Barbarian', and 'Beastmaster' on television.

Nice first episode and I believe this show will get better and better. Music is awesome and animation is solid. The setting is very typical for fantasy, but it's still interesting, so I'm up for more

That's the annoying part. The short haired one is a boy...... >_>

He's a useless little manling. Is there still a chance that the black knights might get 'im?

That was amazing.
The episode started off a little rushed, but once Guin appeared all my thoughts of dropping this series vanished. Totally love it. Though I do find Lemus to be annoying. And I think I'm in love with the ED. Such nice vocals.

Pray that it happens. If only to have Guin beat the crap out of his would-be captors.

Personally, I'd love to see Guin pull a Whirlwind Throw on one of these guys.

I guess that is one of the advantages to this series, there certainly is no shortage of subject material.

I agree that I found the Mistwalker sub frustrating having read some things about the series prior to watching the episode. The music was great and the EP sounds epic. The action, while physically ridiculous (anything strong enough to pound a man into the ground like that would likely just turn him into a pulp!), is actually very fun in a Herculean kind of way. When Guin first started pounding on the horsemen I started to thing cheesy WWF action and was waiting for a pile-driver or something. However, seeing the character handle a blade and the intelligence he demonstrates in the ghoul scene made me think more of the Elric of Melniboné and the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock than stereotypical barbarian.

If I have any complaints with the episode itself, it's that if feels rushed to me. I have no problem jumping headfirst into the story, but it felt as if they were trying to cram the whole first volume into one episode. I'm not sure what gave me this feeling, most likely the dialogue.

Definitely going to keep watching!

The beginning was a bit rushed, and I found strange the total absence of Palos soldiers ins the palace.
Also they fallowed the books to closely, usually it's not a bad thing but some scenes seemed taken straight from the book which didn't fit well.

But it was a pretty epic anime. Note to self: Never mess up with Guin

Animation, background art and especially music (by the God of video games' music Nobuo Uematsu) were on top for this episode. On the other hand, I don't like the chara-design so much and the story felt classic but has a lot of room for improvement, and Guin Saga isn't considered one of the masterpieces of heroic-fantasy for nothing, I'm pretty sure it will get much more ambitious and better. Good cliffhanger also at the end of the episode.

Still, what really stroke me in this first episode was the FANTASTIC fight scene at the middle betwen Guin and the savages. I'm truly amazed by this part, even now, the direction was so well-executed and the animation so great... Ah and second thing: the ED is by far the best ED of the season, it's absolutely out of this world.

I have quite mixed feelings about this anime for now, I believe that the original story is a masterpiece from what I heard, but will the anime become the next LOGH or just a simple Tytania, or even worse? I don't know, but this first episode was quite promising and one of the best I've seen this season (behind Higashi no Eden, K-ON and FMA 2 for now).

Good start. From a technical standpoint, it was solid. Totally loved the fight scene. And yes, useless brother is useless. I understand that he will develop, but considering the amount of material this will cover, I may have a hard time trying not to bang my head on the wall because of hit.

But anyways, I've been craving a traditional fantasy for awhile now, so hopefully it meets my expectations.

cant say how many there will be, but its almost certain they will make another season if you look at the length of the series - 124 volumes

i thought this was a pretty good start though the thing that might ruin it for me later on is the dumbass brother, you could tell he was going to be useless practically right off when he was shown

I heard a lot of good things about the novel. However, it looks like this is going to be a very long series.

I sure hope that this show will drive my interest up. So far, the first episode wasn't so bad at all. The fighting scenes are nicely animated.

I was fairly disappointed in the first episode. I never got the feeling that this is or would become an "epic" story as it seems most people did and it felt extremely rushed. Another two episodes is probably all I can give this to pick a direction before I drop.

Weird first episode. I still find Guin laughable because he reminds me of King, but he seems compelling enough. I'm hating Remus severely though, so his whining is really going to play a part in how enjoyable I find this show.

Hmm. High quality animation, and lots of potential (especially with Rinda, who seems to have it together), but like others, I found Remus really whiny (lol boy skirt) and the episode as a whole felt very rushed. Also, Guin's huge muscles were a little bit too much for me o.o; I hope he puts on some clothes soon ...

It hasn't reeled me in yet, but I'll watch a few more episodes, I think.

This is like the 5th time I repeat: King is a Guin rip-off no matter how you look at it. Judging the popularity of Guin Saga, King's design was clearly inspired by Guin Saga and Tiger Mask.

People saying this series lack originality should reconsider the definition of originality. The pure age of this series (30 years anniversary) put it at an advantageous start/position (i.e. you can't say this is rip-off since Tekken didn't exist 30 years ago)

I didn't say anything about ripoffs or originality. If the first encounter I had of a large man wearing a leopard mask and little else was in a videogame where said character was one I loathed because of his chain moves that could render you dead once you get caught, it's understandable how if I see the inspiration of the character more than a decade later escorting the wonder twins around in a fantastical setting with slight allusions to a mash of mythologies amusing and a little trippy.

Well, as ridiculous and generic all the premises and events that happened were, there is something incredibly entertaining about watching a man with a leopard face beating the shit out of people and burying them alive (dead?). I can't believe that tree burned up. Damn, lol.

On another note, the music is epic as expected from the person who did FF7 Advent Children and the scenery is quite good as well. The only thing lacking is nongeneric characters and an actually believable fantasy story. All the troops are too "uber" and everything that happens is blown way out of what could even be considered reality. ie: "Oh! The coordinates just happened to get messed up. Oh well, nothing we can do." Lmao at the part where their brother (?) dies in the beginning. "I will get my revenge" *hit by projectiles and falls.*

Overall 5/10 +1 for leopard man kicking ass +1 for music = 7/10

The animation was gorgeous, and the action scenes are good. The brother is useless after I noticed that he is scared quickly and never aware around the surrounding in the woods, but I am pretty sure that he will grown up into a mature person someday.
