On Page 50 of 'The God Delusion' Richard Dawkins sets up a scale of probability for the existence of God. 1 is 100% certainty in the existence of God and 7 is is 100% certainty in the non existence of God.

Where do you fit on the scale?

As for me;
After reading 1-7, I came to my conclusion I fall between 6/7 - a 6.99 perhaps..(since i'm atheist) It reminds me of Richard Dawkins 'teacup existence' analogy.

For the record: 6

Interesting scale. I've never seen it before.

I am a six. At this point I think that god is unlikely.

I'm probably either a 5 or a 6. Maybe closer to 6, actually. I need proof to believe in things (lack blind faith). Whichever has a more convincing argument based on facts will win. But the scientific rule states that one can never know anything for sure, and therefore I leave the possibility there...just very poorly supported.

I'd say something around a 5.5 for myself. I generally go around my day thinking God doesn't exist, but I've received tests back which I blew studying on yet got a grade which raises my belief, if for just that moment, to a 1 on that scale.

I'm a 6 or maybe even 7. I'm convinced that there is no god, and there is no proof of his existence. I believe people believe in god, just to have some kind of faith, motivation and comfort of someone watching over them.
The bible is for me just a compilation of stories, though I cannot say anything about the other holy books, since I have not read them.

I cannot vote. First of all, what is the definition of "God"? Depending on the religion, the definition varies. There are a number of definitions in which they are all correct.

More over, believing in the existence of "God" may not be the same as religious believers who are willing to do anything for their "God" in the name of faith.

I dont think it can be calculated with a percentage because for the existence to be it involves quantum theory which is something that doesnt make sense even to the experts on it

I'm a 6 and a 3 combined. I live my life assuming there is no God and rationally reach my decisions, but I see no real reason why there wouldn't be a God and why I shouldn't use religious values to guide my actions.

Edit: I would also like to add that religious discussion is ironic, since people who claim God does not exist based on scientific principles are in fact not being scientific, since nothing in science is ever certain.

This is an important point.

Also, Dawkins clarifies at the beginning of the book what he means by "god" if I'm not mistaken. My copy is 800km away but I believe he made it rather broad, encompassing most personal and supernatural postulated entities. Perhaps the OP could add that?

There is no 'knowing' when it comes to God, therefor it is not possible for anyone to rightfully take a stand on either 1 or 7.

I'm a die-hard 2, though I would like to be a 1.

I'm a 3. Possibly a 2. I blame it on being raised as a Catholic.

Despite whether or not a "God" figure actually exists, I think that my belief in him has shaped my life and altered the decisions I have made, usually for the better. Whenever I am down, I have some form encouragement.

Bash God all you want, but you can't deny his effect on the world and the actions of mankind.

Don't know where I'd fit in the scale. "?.??: I see God in the sense of the word that is meaning a conscious being with opinions translatable to human understanding as not only ridiculous but so unlikely and illogical as to not be worth even discussing, as humans are biological creatures and only act and think in the way we do precisely because of that biology. While I can not rule out the possibility of a god existing in some other form, as in a thing existing with influence similar to that of what people might consider a god to possess, I think that God is not the accurate term for such an entity and it should be defined by a new criteria and not fit into an old one."

So, if this is a question in the sense of a typical theistic god, I come in at about 6.99 I guess.

To be perfectly honest, I think the only two truly logical answers are either 1 or 6. If you believe in God, then you can't believe half-way, you must go all the way, you must believe entirely. If you don't, then you can never be a 100% sure God doesn't exist, since for the scientific mind nothing can be certain or true, only highly probable.

Good point, but 1 says that they 'know' God exists, and no matter how hard you believe, there is no possible way you can know for sure.

How about the possibility that you don't know if God exist or not but if it exist you believe in God as Einstein described it?

When did the Universe start and by what reason, what is a virus and why do they exist, why are we able to create new behaviours that don't seem to have any practical utility for survival (i.e. anime)... And so on

I'm sure we'll get there eventually. But I don't see why we should attribute what we don't yet understand to a fantasy creature, though.
As for anime, it does have a practical utility for survival. Maybe not for us watchers, but for the companies that make money off it and the society at large benefit from having entertained citizens, which will then be less likely to rebel and make a mess of things.
But yes, that was logic not really science.

I voted on 3 and imo science and god do not necessarily contratidict. If it wasnt for Science I would be a 4. The only thing that makes me at least a little bit belive that there might be/is a god is that I dont think that the whole nature and complex proceses (such as movement or especially electricity) could be described with some easy formulas like U=RI if the process of creation just happened "randomly" or something.
Well thats just me maybe but whatev. <_<

i dont think we'll ever understand the reasons for why certain things exist. ie. Gravity.
