I guess this is something I've always thought about but never asked around here.

Obviously everyone on here (I assume) is an anime fan, but I wonder if that's their favorite visual entertainment medium.

For me as you can see on my profile, sports is still my greatest passion, but as I go further down the list I realize that American TV dramas and American movies still hold more weight than anime.

What about you?

Please do NOT list, this is not a listing thread.

For now it is. Since the American TV shows I watch are in hiatus for now, I'm watching anime now to catch up what I have missed out.

I'm going to go ahead an assume that a LOT of people on here have gaming as their #1 or #2.

I think the last time I was really into gaming was when playstation 2 was still relevant.

I don't know why, but eventually I just stopped caring for it.

Yes, I find in anime the most absurd but entertaining stories.
This medium have themes I don't find in any other place.

Next to watching fail videos, yes.

Nothing is more entertaining than watching other people hurt themselves. Not even anime.

Yes. In an anime you can normally see situations that in a movie would require an extremely high budget (like all the shonen's battles). Also,I think anime involve more in become attached to the characters (and suffer for their death). In fact, in a movie, when I see a character die it doesn't make me any effect, because I think that I'll see that actor again in another film. Sorry, I don't know if I expressed myself correctly, I'm Italian and I'm not very familiar with English.

I'm Mexican and i understood that perfectly, actors come back but dead anime characters only get OVA's, tis a sad fact of life.

This happens to me in anime also when two similar characters are played by the same voice actor, either in Japanese (Rie Kugimiya) or English (Todd Haberkorn or Josh Grelle).

They don't die, necessarily, they just evoke the same emotional reaction from me.

Had to look up what "Tokusatsu" was...lol.

I was thinking that maybe manga isn't visual entertainment, but then again, since it's mostly drawings.....I guess it is.

In the past 6 months or so it has been (after gaming, although I don't really get into games much anymore). I don't have the channels for sports and can't be bothered watching live action shows that sound interesting so for the time being its definitely anime. Reading/Manga probably come in 3rd (I've not read many mangas but out of the ones I have done they don't compare to some books).

Simple for me. It's live action movies. I don't know. It seems I can tolerate mediocre movies, but I can't tolerate mediocre anime anymore.

It goes back to the fact anime is still by and large targeting teens. The mediocre stuff is always some moe/romcom/SOL highschool thing when movies mediocrity has many more genres and not restrained to a single culture or demography.

Out of all my hobbies watching films and shows is my main one (though I never really considered myself a film buff), and out of those anime just happen to be my favorite to watch so I think that counts.

It has to be said though that I do watch way more stuff in live action form (mostly movies) than in anime. Maybe in the future with more experience I'll start to get tired of those certain patterns, but well whatever. It's worth of notice that my average in both anime and movie rating sites tends to be the exact same.

I kinda understand...

Although, I still deal with mediocre anime.

But I'd rather see a mediocre movie than 12 episodes of mediocre anime, that's for sure.

Lol yeah the time thing is certainly important. I might get bored of a movie but it's still usually just within 2 hours. But like, sometimes I can't even finish a single episode in a mediocre anime. :| I usually don't even put them on my list now if I only just saw 1-2 eps and got bored of it.

I love video games as much as I love anime. I don't watch as many movies as I used to but I still enjoy them from time to time. I also occasionally watch American TV dramas. But I watch those even less than I watch movies. I only keep up with about 2 or 3 of them. Grey's Anatomy and Breaking Bad are my favorites right now.

i Prefer the Internet [0.0]

In the last few years, I alternate anime, movies, and books (and manga mostly, though I occasionally read comics). Due to constantly reading something I don't especially like (for work purposes), anime might take over - like following closely a season. Since watching movies was also a necessity few years ago, books were what I read most at the time for pleasure.
If I have to rank them now - books and anime, movies, manga (because of the releases, hiatuses, or being just new). Anime can get away with almost everything, but reading manga is a torture if it's not finished in some way.

Currently yes. If I get more general though then i'd say watching movies/shows and gaming are my favorite forms of visual entertainment and anime is just at the focal point of it right now.

At the moment it is anime which it is usually. Although sometimes every now and then it becomes live action tv or movies. It's pretty much never video games, I still play a fair amount but it always remains as a secondary hobby.

Wait, since when was gaming a visual medium? It's an interactive entertainment medium, not a visual medium.

OT: Yes. Yes, it is. For sports, I only watch Liverpool's games and the World Cup and the Euro Cup. I don't have any TV shows that I watch. I don't watch many movies. I stopped watching cartoons some time before coming to Lanka.

I would say gaming, but I don't play as much as I used to and don't find it as fun. I will once GTA V comes out though. Then it'll become my favorite.

I prefer gaming to anime (since most anime are really just adaptations of manga, light novels or games).
