RAM is 1 of the cheapest parts to buy. They have a lot of sales on these. I got my GSkill Ripjaws 2 x 4GB 1600 for $25 which was $70. Braggers gonna brag I guess. Wanna impress people? Then build your own pc because all I see is an ASUS Laptop.
NEETs (No Employment Education Training) are the least desirable people anybody would want to hire and yet they are the first choice to become moderators/admins around the internet. They have yet to have established a sense of responsibility or role in society and many are plain leeches (with minor exceptions). They are given "authority" to police sections of the internet with the powers of The Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Isn't that weird?

12gb on desktop, 8gb on laptop. With RAM being so cheap I could go 24gb on the desktop or 16gb on the laptop, but I really see nothing that warrants the upgrades for my purposes. Sticking with 12gb/8gb of ram and spending more money on CPU or GPU upgrade is much better cost to performance value.

m8. Just Google Chrome already uses almost, if not more than, 1GB of memory.

"Everyday use" kind of implies using chat messengers, media player, streaming videos on web browser, etc.

2GB doesn't cut it, and with ram being so ridiculously cheap, 4-6GB is the way to go. Of course if you play a lot of games, then you may as well buy 8GB purely because it's dirt cheap.

And I open up to 40 tabs when researching, and 12 on average otherwise. It's not good when just your browser while idling is already using more than a third of your total ram. And what happens if you want to multitask? RAM is so cheap nowadays. Unless its a laptop that doesn't support RAM upgrades, then I don't understand why you'd want to settle for just 2gb. It only serves to restrict the usability of your computer :S

This is probably talking about using windows 7/8 on x86 where it constantly uses at least like 400MB of RAM minimum, on amd64 pretty much double that. I have a laptop with 2GB of RAM and that's actually more than I would ever need on the thing. Default setup that could actually be considered bloated for what it is uses 150MB, loading up firefox with 30 tabs, running a VN in wine, imageviewer, read a pdf, have a text editor open, have a music player open playing music, have mplayer open playing video, GIMP open, etc. This is me struggling my hardest doing ridicolous multitask crap I wouldn't/couldn't even do normally trying to get it to go over 1GB. This is on a pentium M too which is the real bottleneck.

My desktop yeah I couldn't deal with that because I run heavier stuff even though I easily could live with 2GB if you made me. But a laptop who cares. To me laptops are expendable junk I wouldn't spend more than 200 bucks on.
