So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Oricon Daily Top 30 DVD/Top 20 BD Rankings for May 27.

Yamato 2199 5, GaruPan 5, Karneval 1, Senyuu. 2, Hiiro no Kakera 2nd Season 5, Hakkenden Touhou 3, Code:Breaker 6, Love Live! 3, GaruPan SE 1+2, Saint Seiya Omega 10 are all the May 28 releases btw.

Surprised at GaruPan 5 DVD ranking above Karneval 1 DVD. Perhaps Karneval is storefront biased... as Stalker has it at 4.3k.

The BD ranks are pretty much to be expected I think.

SAO continues to have spectacular sales although I'm surprised the late volumes are doing that well (ALO arc wasn't nearly as good as SAO one). I assume that's a good thing since it raises the chances of GGO being animated. Other than that PP manages to have fairly solid sales and Oreshura at least ranked (even if the sales barely amount to 2,000).

You would not be surprised if you know the feedback from fans in Japan or you have been tracking its preorder sales ranking in Amazon.

You need to count the DVD sales as well and if you do that the sales will be around 2600. Still not great, but much better than 2000.

Keep it up Psycho Pass! Keep going! Next week I'm sure it will cross 7k. This anime really deserves a second season.
Glad to see Chihayafuru 2 get 3.2k...it isn't much but it's better than what I thought it would get.
Other than that, once again, really sad to see TnK and Zetsuen's sales. Still, they got a good boost for their manga sales...
It's really weird to see Karneval below GaruPan 5 DVD...that's really weird.

Good to see that selling reasonably well. It's a shame it's region-restricted blu-ray only, otherwise I might have considered buying it myself in the long term.

But if you watch it using BD drive on PC, region code should not matter...?

It doesn't? It matters for DVDs, and a quick check elsewhere on the internet indicates that it does for blu-rays too.

Glad to see this! Hopefully some of those people will buy the BDs as well!

*3,707 *1 Yama no Susume [BD]: 2012/05/24
*3,261 *1 Chihayafuru 2 [BD Box]: 2012/05/22

And very pleased to see both of these!

Teekyuu with 2600 sales got a season 2 so I hope this means a season 2 for Yama no Susume as well. There is already another season worth of manga written so this should be ready for announcement anytime!

And Chihaya already has very good manga sales but with it more than breaking even on disc sales for season 2 I think season 3 should be a given, just a matter of when as they will likely only have 3 books left (4 after 21 ships next month, 5 with 22 in September with OVA, 6 with 23 presumably in December) there may not be enough material for season 3 in winter 2014 as the first two have used up 8.5 books each. So perhaps not until winter 2015 when there will be 9 volumes of material.

14, *,510 *,***,510 Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun vol.7

Sad for this but expected. It will rank some BDs on Thursday but overall there are 8 books of manga that will remain un-animated unless a miracle occurs... too bad really, great artstyle, music, the story and characters were already very interesting and funny. Shoujo just not selling discs these days...

For DVD at least you can change the region code at least a few times. Since all I watch on my laptop is Japanese DVDs I have it permanently set to Region 2 Japan.

Not sure if this applies to Blurays. Luckily I am in Canada where we share the same Region A with Japan so that is not an issue for me.

I'm glad to see that Hidamari is ending strong. Hopefully we'll see more animated past graduation.

And fucking Chihayafuru! I'm glad it's showing signs of not being a complete flop. Heck, if a season three were to be made, I'd quite possibly start believing in miracles.

SAO still selling strong but this is much much lower than the previous volumes. Understandable I guess but still good. I still need to watch the Offline special episode 7.

Been waiting for the Cyborg 009 movie. Do movies have some sort of Manabi line basis or something like for TV sales coz I'm not sure if those are good numbers or not.

Valvrave OP strong. Been listening to it every time and I can't get enough of it.

And Karneval seems to be the first show to be solicited. What are its predicted figures? Haven't been following stalker for a long time now.

A lot of them (from the things I've looked at, slightly over half) are region free. Yama no Susume is not one of those.

And yes, you can change your region code, but there's a limit to the number of times you can do it, and my laptop is the only Blu-Ray player in our household at the moment. So I don't really want to set it so that I can't watch anything else.

Oh well, it was a low priority anyway.

I don't really want to be buying more software just for the very occasional region restricted anime that I may want to buy either.

Of course I recommend as a first reading my Amazon Stalker analysis: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=603363&show=100#msg22330719

But I also want to add something: Over the past few days, things for Gargantia are not looking that great. Its preorder ranking is now BELOW Valvrave (shudder). Also, its total BD/DVD point estimate from Stalker is now overtaken (albeit barely) by HaMaou (Hataraku Maou-sama):

Total BD+DVD final point estimate by Amazon Stalker
70.9k Shingeki no Kyojin
22.2k UtaPrince2
12.8k Railgun2 (data for the old format just before the new format was announced)
9.6k HaMaou
9.5k Gargantia
8.8k OreImo2

Something has to happen that captures the imagination of the viewers again if Gargantia is not to lose the position of one of the TOP FOUR of the season....

The BD/DVD for the actual film will not come out until near end of June. This is a special DVD which covers 4 episodes of the TV series (ep. 575 to 578) that have connection with the movie. The idea is that anybody who wants to see the film should watch those 4 episodes first. Since this is not the actual film, it is not surprising that its sales is much more modest than what the film is expected to sell.

Actually the reaction among fans in Japan is one of overjoy. For a 5-min show, selling 3.7k is a huge achievement. Also, I am not sure Manabi Line applies to short anime shows. I remember reading somewhere that the breakeven point for short anime is much lower than a series of standard length (but then the manabi line itself is more a general reference point instead of the actual breakeven line).

Blu-ray region coding is software based (while DVD is hardware based) i have powerDVD playing region A and Nero blu-ray player playing region B. Im sure there are free blu-ray player software out there. So yeah just a suggestion if you didn't know already.

I am not sure what you mean here. You mean you talked to some people who actually buy stuff? How many of them? Are they fans of Yama no Susume? What I mean is that whether reactions about the sales results are valid should not depend on whether they buy stuff. More important is how much they know about anime BD/DVD sales and reading the data, and whether there is any bias in the perception. To me, assuming there isn't anybody who is particularly knowledgeable, I would rather believe the collective perception by people who are interested in following the sales data and interpreting it rather than the view of a few samples. But of course if your preference is to trust your acquaintances or friends more, it is also fine.

I have a dream, it's a small dream, but a dream none the less. In the end I want GnP to outsell SAO. Difficult I know, but if the last couple SAO volumes sell in the mid 20s and the last two GnP sell in the upper 30s (I have always expected 5 and 6 to sell better because of the battles), then maybe, just maybe this will happen.

This is not so much a knock on SAO, but for me SAO had a lot of production faults (from scripting through the animation), whereas GuP for me is the little engine with the stupid sounding idea that could (and was anything but stupid when completed). I want it to end as a top 1 or 2 non-franchise series for 2012.

I know GuP has exceeded all expectations and I shouldn't expect more, but hey what can I say I am greedy! Having this happen would make me happy.
