| As much as I hate to admit, SAO is good for people who aren't into anime. Mostly because it's not really a deep, rich kind of show and it gives what the audience wants usually. But I wouldn't say the same for hardcore anime fans who would have a higher expectation. For boys, I would say one of the big three would be good for them. It's easy to get into. Yeah. For girls, I would give them a shoujo romance. Clannad wouldn't be the best starter type of anime IMO because it's really boring and takes a lot of effort to appreciate it. I would give something like Chihayafuru or Tsuritama. They are likable. For little kids, definitely Shirokuma Cafe or any cutesy anime. Cute magic girl shoujos for the girls out there and simple action shounen for little boys. For older people like adults and even elders, I'd probably give them some intelligent animes like DC or S;G. Nodame Cantabile is great for women since it is a Josei after all. |
| If it's a girl I recommend Nana, Lovely Complex, Kimi ni Todoke if it is a boy I would say watch Naruto or bleach but dont mention to me when you watch like it is the best anime ever -_- |

SAO isn't even good for people watching anime for the first time lmao, if they actually have standards they will notice how awful it is and how it would portray whatever doubts they had before watching anime, or if they expect a lot of action they won't even get that That's why I said SAO. Most of the non-anime people I've met have like no standards at all. :S They just want action and good visuals. They don't care if the characters are flat or if the story repetitively uses deus ex machina to fix the plot holes. Actual comments from my friends: R: Kirito's hair is so cool! V: Asuna is pretty. Yui is so cute. P: The animation is boss. J: This is the best anime ever. T: This is so good. |

| It really depends on who they are. If it's a typical girl I'd suggest Vampire Knight. If it's a guy I'd suggest Death Note, SAO, or Code Geass. |

| Best way is to always start with features, they have less anime cliches, are really well made (for the most part), and aren't a huge time commitment. I feel if you recommend something like yuriyuri right off the bat it might deter someone, just because they don't quite get it yet. After this season ends I'm definitely going to recommend Tonari to friends, it's a solid romantic story that doesn't need to much explanation compared to the complex plots of other series. Its pacing is fast, the art is nice, the characters dynamic, and there's not too much fan service. I also second death note, people just love that show, especially a lot of non anime viewers. You might be wondering why I'm adamant about the whole non cliche thing, but if someone goes out of their way to try something you gotta make the transition as smooth as possible. I mean it's already hard for me to try other friends' anime requests, imagine how it is for a person jumping into anime and they encounter perversion at every turn lol. |
