So it's cool to be a "socially inept otaku"?

But how exactly? I can't see any reason why this would be the case.

I explained why to you before, Nicole. Excessive socialization is a good thing as long as one watches how and whom he socializes with carefully.

That hasn't got anything to do with socialising itself.

It has to do with your judgement.

"Excessive socialization" implies a negative tone because of the word excessive. It means that one is socializing more for the sake of socializing than anything else. I'd rather call this talking more than socializing. And I think we already know the consequences of talking too much rather than listening and doing other things.

I agree. At a stretch, the only negative conclusion I can think of from excessive socialisation is if a person becomes utterly dependent on their hectic social life that they can no longer cope by themselves. But that is only if they become so dependent on socialising.

There are more negative conclusions than that, you just have to be creative.

Another would be one who starts to use polished words and phrases more often as a result of socializing a lot. Soon enough, his words will mean more than his actions and he may forget that doing what you say is also what's important in life.

Another would be a comedian who socializes for the sake of getting other peoples' intentions. Except the problem with this guy is that his sole goal in life is to get everyone in the world to look at him and see what a shining star he is.

Another would be one that falls into the shallow depths of the river of modern stupidity all for the sake of making himself just be a "normal guy without many problems." You'll see this guy going, "Yeah, brosky!" "Wooordddd." "Dude, that shittss hotter and nastier than ever!" "Look man, I'm just trying to get my balls wet here."

It's possible. Very possible.

The Western population tends to have less worry about being an "otaku" because we are generally far less concerned about social appearance than in Japan.

In Japan there's a focus on reforming yourself to fit commonly accepted standards and becoming a useful member of society...while in a country like America, there is more of a focus on individuality and being whoever you want to be; plus there are a lot of mixed cultures here, so tolerance has naturally been heightened in many ways.

The amusing thing about is the way they constantly refer to the women as "regular girls", it's never occurred to them that women can be "otakus" as well.

While I'm sure there are some non-Anime/Manga/Gaming fans who married "Otakus", I think the majority of them would also be fans too.

meh, not like otaku implies they're ugly or anything.

also i don't understand this new line of thinking. how does marrying into mediocrity, and social-ineptness supposedly lead to a warm and rewarding family life?

i know studies always say women tend to go for 'beta-personality' types for marriage, but i do wonder how the actual application of something like that works in terms of a good family life.

and when it winds down to it, culturally-speaking, this idea is pretty similar to that 'hipster wedding' article in that both of them are examples of the internet generation romanticizing the struggles and hardships of being young and being perfectly content with that.

Most Female Otaku are Idol Otaku here theres fans of anime and manga who are of the fairer sex but most Hardcore anime otaku are Guys

No, but mediocre looks generally coincide with very introverted/ "nerdy" hobbies.

I assume emotional security and sincerity are part of it. "Mediocre" people are usually more content with what they have, and would place a lot more value on their wife as opposed to a great looking, rich, "player" type figure (most women don't want to be a trophy wife, they want to be actually loved). They're more likely to be honest, hardworking, less self-entitled, and have a better understanding of fairness, since they're had a "blue collar" sort of life. "Mediocre" people don't set their ambitions too high, but they value the stability they do have over trying anything crazy that could blow up in their face, like rich people occasionally do. Better values will be instilled upon your kids. I guess you could summarize it all by saying an average marriage and average life seems much more genuine, real, fulfilling, and all that.

Obviously those are all sweeping generalizations that I don't necessarily agree with, just throwing out potential trails of thought.

I finally just gave up on IRL friends throughout high school and only had a few close friends that I actually enjoyed talking to. Most of my friends came from either Spam Casual Chat or the anime convention I go to once a year. Being social then really sucked and the internet and anime and all of these other anime fans were just way more interesting than anyone that went to my school. So I did kind of become a socially inept "otaku", I guess. Although I wouldn't really consider myself an otaku. I haven't watched that much anime.

Sometimes it's just easier.

Not trying to encourage them, just brainstorming. That said, some of them are based on arguably correct claims. Such as: "having to work for what you get makes you more appreciative and less self-entitled", etc.

It could also just be that, thanks to increased discussion about social norms/conventions, more people are realizing that looks and money aren't everything. Maybe that's too simple, I don't know.

Maybe you're used to talking to yourself but when you brainstorm in a conversation involving other people you are encouraging other people to add to the thoughts you have brought up.

If their nerdy hobby actually improves a marketable skill, like computer programming, yes. I was thinking more of otaku. Watching anime or reading manga doesn't directly improve any marketable skill, in most cases.

How rude. I thought you meant I was encouraging others to believe those trails of thought, as you said "it's horrible to encourage those thoughts". Of course I'm encouraging other people to add, build, or argue. Precisely the opposite of what you have done, I might add, haha. If you think they have no validity you could have just said so.

No, it's not just that... it's just that i'm worried about what the world will look like once other cultures follow-suit... but perhaps it's needless worrying. It was going to happen one way or another, we do have 7.2 billion people in this world right now and it's growing.

I suppose that is true as a general outline. But I think that this mentality is seriously based too much on instinctive emotions rather than logic.

One could also argue that an ambitious rich male would have to be extremely hardworking to get where he is and thus would equally appreciate the virtue of hard-work and dedication. Likewise, a highly successful husband would equate to literally, the availability of hundreds of more opportunities for the children, and family. Generally speaking, the children of the high class remain high class, as do their children, and so forth. Social class is a very stagnant pool of water that rarely changes.

Money and success isn't happiness, but for every family living the 'struggling but heartwarming and loving two-room apartment' life, there are countless families struggling to make ends meet or providing for their family, which can lead to a lot of emotional distress, and so forth, coupled with the fact that divorce in Japan is not the coin-flip that it is here in America, you're looking at a lot of problems in this 'average family'.

Sure I make it out like gold-digging, but it's not any more shallow than women going for Otaku for stability.

This is true, unfortunately love just isn't enough for a relationship to last. It's sad, I wish it was enough, but it's not. There is a lot more to it.

Good points, yeah, it's up for debate. I guess the most objective measure of how hard someone has worked would be how much they've improved upon their initial situation. What's that about how divorce in the middle class tends to work in Japan? Never learned about that before.

Aside: I remember everyone in one of my labour economics courses cheering when a professor said a variation of "you usually end up as well off in life as when you started", haha. Oh, rich people.

I think most of them actually know that, but a lot of insults which were originally very offense to a group have in time changed so that they don't find it offensive anymore.

I think that's the case here too.

It's basically the same as the N-word, or even Bitch.

Words that were originally meant as insults which have since changed, besides I doubt those shirts would of sold so well in Japan as opposed to outside of it (or probably even outside of Asia).

incisorr, maybe you should be taking into account that there are cultural differences from one country to another, and maybe metalheads being cool is a phenomenon restricted to your cultural area - Bulgaria.
