Seems this episode also wants to build more trust between the cast.

Either way, I like how Mai is growing more and more out of her shell. It's a process of character development and in this case, it works for her role. She's making emotional choices and this episode itself is quite emotional with the tears and feelings.

You know, this would make sense if Mai was like eight years old. But now, she's freaking out this much over her dad getting a new wife after not only hearing the real story about Takae and Marika, but also being the only other person to see how much Takae's death affected him. You would think after hearing that they need to let her go that she would let him go ahead with it just so he doesn't have to go through that again, but no. When this first happened in one of the first episodes I was a bit annoyed and Mai, but after that talk with Takae, I can understand where she's coming from, and those feelings are very human feelings to have. That whole scene after with all the flashbacks off all that Takae has helped her out with was such a great scene. And to see Renji right there waiting I think made her understand that now neither her nor Keisuke will be lonely like they were back then. They both have someone thar they care about that cares about them just as much back.

I mean, for a second there I thought she had matured, but no she stays being an annoying fuck even after everything that's happened. Like NO that isn't your mom, that is Marika. Thankfully Keisuke gave it to her straight-on and made her realize why they need to let Takae go. They need to let her go and move forward and build a future without her. Another great scene again, btw. I don't know who's doing the OST for this show, but props to them because god anytime they pull out a piano track it always hit in these emotional moments. Which everything finally led up to Mai finally opening her eyes, so now it's time to let Takae go, once and for all.

Don't want this to end, should probably have tissues on standby for next episode, but yeah...

Chika getting taken aback from being called out to by her first name by her daughter's voice cracked me up more than I was expecting to in an episode full of heavy emotional stuff.

For Keisuke to go from being inseperable from Takae to being the person that wants her to pass on for good the most was far from a painless process, and I'm glad that Mai was able to realize that. Also, Renji is lowkey the MVP of the whole story. Dude's the best.

Keisuke's remarriage to Moriya certainly has Mai all confused on the spot, even when she learns the truth of her mother not being reborn, but possessing Marika's body just to make ends meet. And as hard as it sounds to believe, Takae is done for this world, and Keisuke is ready to move on with Moriya, but Mai's love for Takae is unquestionable to the fact that no other woman will be able to replace her. The question is, Takae can't always possess Mariya's body all the time, and as she goes to comfort and reassure her own daughter, she also wants Mai to move on to a better life, the promise made between her and Keisuke to wish for her happiness.

Mai being unable to face her dad, gets another time of comfort with Aikawa on the same topic about life, death and moving on, all at the same time, and eventually leans onto Keisuke that he still allows himself to remarry with Moriya, but on the condition that Takae still lives somehow on the sidelines. And this is a pretty hard commit since Mai just won't let go of her own mother's influence, let alone feeling her in someone else's body, as much as both father and daughter loved and embraced Takae. And to look forward to happiness, they WILL have to let go of Takae's presence, no matter the cost and how hard it is to lose a loved one after they're gone.

One last time with Takae, will the Niijimas be able to find comfort without their long-dead possessed mother?

Keisuke and Mai’s actions in this episode were quite frustrating. On one hand, while it’s admirable that Keisuke realized he was binding Takae’s spirit through his lingering attachment and has chosen to start fresh to let her go, rushing into a marriage with Moriya feels forced. It seems more like he’s trying to erase Takae from his heart out of obligation rather than genuinely thinking about his happiness or Moriya’s.

As for Mai, even though she’s an adult and the situation has been explained to her, she continues to cling to the idea of a miracle like a child. Fortunately, Keisuke delivered a dose of reality, telling her that when someone dies, you can’t bring them back. The only way forward is to live happily, ensuring that the departed can rest in peace. It was a hard but necessary truth.

I can’t help but picture how things might unfold in the finale. If they have their final farewell to Takae on the Ferris wheel, and Marika returns as the ride ends, it would be an incredibly emotional moment. It would capture the theme of moving on while holding onto the love and memories of those who have passed—a sad yet beautiful way to conclude this story.

One of the few criticisms I have of this show is how rushed the engagement was. I mean, they really never even dated. Normally that would be a huge red flag, to rush into marriage like that.

But overall this has been a great ride. Definitely one of the best shows this season. And it was “supposed” to be a trash show lol.

And now they’re going to take a ride on the Ferris wheel. What could happen?

Well, that went about as well as I was expecting. Still puzzled why they thought revealing this in a restaurant was a good idea. It was even narratively unnecessary. It's not as if she went straight back home after that exchange.

That minor gripe aside, this was still an emotional episode. I liked Mai's exchange with Takae in the park. And then her spending time with her fiance Renji. It seemed like she finally accepted the reality by midpoint but she didn't. She did make some good points tho. If Keisuke truly loved Moriya then he should just marry her. But marrying her for the sake of Takae just seems wrong. The fact that Keisuke outright said that he's doing it because of Takae and then added that if that doesn't work he'll do something else irks me a lot. I thought Mai was right about hating her dad for that. But her denying that her mom wasn't reincarnated wasn't.

When I started the series I thought it'd be the dad who'd refuse to let go his dead wife. So, I'm a little surprised that it's actually Mai. I think it makes sense. No child wants to lose their parents. Keisuke loves his wife. But he can just get another wife. For Mai, she can't just get another mother. Keisuke knew Takae after he was already an adult. Mai had known her mom her whole life since she was born. So, losing her not once but twice must hurt her a lot. Moriya could replace Takae as Keisuke's wife but she can't replace Mai's mother. She's irreplaceable. But in the end, I'm glad Mai was able to make peace with it.

This episode was an emotional roller coaster. Although I know how this will likely end I'm still not ready for it. The last episode will probably be a tearjerker.

The tears won’t stop man absolutely beautiful episode. Haven’t cried this much in a while

Mai’s reaction is how any child would react in this situation. I totally forgot they hadn’t told her about Takae possessing Marika and kept her up to date with everything because of she and Renji wedding coming up. I agree that Moriya and Keisuke relationship did seem to go from 0-100 overnight, I mean she just confessed to him like a week ago and he didn’t even know if he could date her now they’re getting married?

Moriya was a sweetheart for not getting upset with some of the hurtful things Mai said. People say hurtful shit when they’re upset and Moriya showed a lot of maternal poise there just assuring Mai that she loves her father and wasn’t pressuring him or anything. Accepting a new parent is never easy, especially one that you perceive as coming out of nowhere

“I’ve done my job as your training wheels now you should be able to live your own life” 😭 fuck what a beautiful way to sum up the role of a parent. When those training wheels come off, you’ll likely stumble, fall and get hurt. But once you get used to it you’ll have the freedom to go wherever you want and experience so many new things.

I love the Renji and Mai scene so much particularly Renji’s line about the waves being strong today, which is an analogy for the idea that grief comes in waves. It never goes away, but we just get used to it and learn to ride the waves while not getting lost in them. You never get over the loss of a parent, just learn to live without them.

Beautiful ending with Mai and Keisuke sharing an embrace and crying together. Respect to Keisuke for admitting that he could’ve done better and been there for Mai after the loss of Takae. Obviously they were both grieving but just hearing your father say that goes a long way. I’m really not ready to say goodbye to this series next week πŸ˜”

Sheeeesh.... Mai is just so stubborn! OMG, both her father and fiance had to calm her down, yet she still wouldn't accept. Even her own mother had to talk to her, and I really thought this would clear things up, but noooo! The park scene where Takae talked about learning to ride a bike was really good when she said that her being the training wheels was quite wise. Especially when she emphasized that Mai can't rely on training wheels forever.

Btw...

Chika needs her daughter back. Having a daughter mentally older than her and calling by her first name is probably weirding her out the longer this continues.

So it all comes to an end. Last episode will be all about goodbyes. Mai finally decided to let go, although it's understandable why she freaked out. She was the only one who didn't know about body possession or marrying different woman plan.

Mai is right though. Marrying Moriya purely to make Takae feel relieved would be wrong for everyone, inlcuding Moriya.

Let's see if the last episode will make us cry.

Goodbye will certainly be sad, but afterlife existing is kind of a HUGE SPOILER to us humans. I'm certain humans would be WAY different if we knew for a fact that afterlife exists.

This episode was as heavy as I thought it would be with how the previous one ended. Simply put, Mai really struggled to accept the fact that Takae needed to move on and you can see how painful it was for her to be told that, as well as Keisuke declaring that he and Moriya want to marry each other.

Just because you are an adult, it doesn't automatically mean that you can accept changes so easily and readily as some would expect. Mai's refusal to accept this needed change was tough to deal with at times, but it had to be done in order for things to move forward. Renji was there to help her out early on and the same can be said with Takae when she met up with Mai at the park, but it was the later confrontation with Keisuke that was able to finally break down her resistance.

Mai herself is more fragile than she looks, so I can understand as to why she didn't want to accept this change, but I'm glad that accepted it in the end. Keisuke handled himself really well and was able to voice out the harsh truth about the situation as well as mentioning about Marika and Chika still being effected by all of this.

With one episode left, I do hope that everything gets wrapped up nicely, which should set up for a bittersweet, yet happy ending. =)

They really decided to have this deep talk at a public restaurant lol, just another fucking intentionally daft move from the writer to create more melodrama. And their ready made excuses for Mai acting like this, doesn't sit right with me either.

It's a shame this show lost me a while back, it's like that sledgehammer idiom, I just find so many things about this show unnecessary or intentionally placed/extrinsic writing decisions lol

I mean I think jumping from coworkers to married is dumb too, but Mai didn't react like someone concerned for how he's rushing into something, she reached like an actual child, rejecting the reality that Marika existed as another person, and Takae is preventing that real child from having a life.

I can accept a kid being selfish and "just wanting their mom again". but, when confronted with that reality as an adult, you have to be able to say "it is not worth robbing a child of their life" and let go. that's basically a maturity test, and she did not pass. pretty disappointing tbh, and cheapens her supposed growth as an individual so far

I figured that this would dissolve into a big misunderstanding considering that both Keisuke and Takae hadn't told their daughter of what they decided to do and that Takae had given her blessing for her husband to remarry. On that note, one thing that Mai didn't seem to understand until the end was that Takae was possessing another person's body and that it wasn't fair for both Marika and her mom for that to keep going on. Regarding Mai's fiancé, props to him for saying how he wants to be like Mai's dad which I think helped in Mai going back home to talk to her dad.

With one episode remaining I have a feeling that Takae will be able to rest easy (or at least worry less) and release her soul from Marika's body.

I actually think Mai's case is a textbook example of the grief stages, even though they're exaggerated due to anime, and their blurriness. At the beginning, like her father, she had been stuck in a deep depression stage for 10 years. Her mother's return more or less reset her grief and her father's announcement at the beginning of the episode restarted it. She first denied it, not believing in the possession and the Takae/Marika dichotomy, and got angry at her father and Moriya. Then, she "bargained", trying to find arguments against the possession theory, stating that there is no proof and that Takae is Marika, and so on, while being on the verge of depression with Renji. We see a bit of of acceptance at the end, but it's quite weak and her mother isn't yet actually gone.

Once again, I felt like Nostradamus watching this episode, because what I thought would happen, turned out to happen. When Mai ran out of the restaurant, I knew that Takae would eventually talk to her about the marriage, and that she would be the only one who could convince Mai that this really was for the best.

I understand to a degree what people are saying about Keisuke and Mai's reactions, but as I've seen posted here before somewhere, it's realistic that way. Keisuke rushing into an engagement is irrational, and so are some of Mai's statements, but that just shows they're not perfect people. We aren't perfect, we're always bound to make a mistake here and there,
and imo, it makes their choices more interesting and powerful, but I understand if someone were to disagree.

Why would Keisuke like to Mai about a relationship and getting married? She's so childish and its annoying. I mean I get it, but she's a grown ass adult who's about to start a new life herself. Its crazy that Mai didn't know Takae possessed Marika though lol the lack of communication is crazy. Imagine being the waiter at the restaurant and hearing them talk about this?

Also Mai, your mom is already dead. The only thing lingering around is her lost soul that she wants to set free. I mean, she should be grateful she even got the opportunity to see her mom again.

I feel bad for Chika too though. Imagine your elementary school daughter saying she needs to go talk to her daughter πŸ’€

Can't get mad at Mai, honestly. Both Keisuke and Takae should have had a proper talk with her the moment they realized about the "possession" thing. They fucked up there.

As for the episode, its execution ended up being far better than I expected. Yeah, Keisuke (or rather the author, to be more precise) deciding to have such a deep and serious talk at a freaking restaurant was beyond stupid but the scenes that followed kinda made up for such poor attempt at being melodramatic. Not to mention I found some dialogues to be quite powerful as well.

So... a Ferris Wheel, huh? Oh boy... *Plastic Memories PTSD intensifies*

I’ve always found it a bit curious that in Japan, families traditionally share a single surname (usually the husband's, by custom). It got me wondering, so I looked it up—there’s an interesting reason behind it, which you can check out if you’re curious too. 😊

Ohh this series holds a special place in my heart, really. It reminds me not to drift too far from my path. Nijima family went through so much, and their story is a gentle reminder: life is a gift, and we’re here to live it with purpose.

I'm glad the direction this story took. I was afraid with its early lighthearted tone that somehow Marika is indeed Takae and they just cheat death. So I love this development, and the message they're trying to tell.

Although I agree that they need to make sure that Takae is at peace so she can move on, I honestly don't think getting remarried that fast is necessary. I think it's built on a wrong premise, that having to have someone you romantically love in your life is the key to happiness. It's not. He can pick himself up without resorting to remarriage. I just feel it's too fast, and also I don't know how he feels about Moriya, though I know how Moriya feels.
