Rin was finally doing well at the start of this episode only to be taken out be a mistake from her mechanic.
Well now we got some focus on the other drivers mainly Youran who was doing well this race, we even got to see a bit of her past and she was doing hyperextensions during training.
Now the question is will Rin be taken out again next race.

Also Richard has taste in cars it seems.

Gutted for Rin not being able to race after putting in a great lap in qualifying, thought she was on for a good result. This shows version of the Shanghai circuit was very interesting especially with what looked like the stadium section of the Hockenheimring added on at the end.

It just goes to show you how little research the writers of this did on real single seater car racing. In real life Rin wouldn’t have gotten a DNS at lights out because of a set up change because she should have known about it before then. In real life you would find that out earlier in the day during set up or going to the grid. And the mechanic definitely would have told the driver.

I get this is fiction but it still needs to have some fact to it.

I agree, however if you cannot start (or control) the car, and you get assist to get out of the track or even come back to the motion, you're automatically DNF.

Besides that, I do have a doubt too regarding the cold open. During qualifying Rin was using a clutch pedal, and doing some Drift King technique in a camera angle that reminds us of old school videos of JDM drifting or even Initial D, however last episode they said IA knew the precise moment to change gear, which also doesn't make sense since they are always on D gear, so even if there is Gears, they don't change and taking real racing cars for example, such as Formula 1, there is no Clutch pedal. So why now the cars has one? This new cars is manual? Even worse, because in this same scene the steering wheel is also pointing D gear.

This has just gotten so stupid. In real life, that idiot would have been fired in an instant. You do NOT change the settings in a car after your driver shows that the current settings work.

I get it they're trying to make a Youran episode at her home track, but it's too cheap to make Rin go out like that after a somewhat promising preliminary result. Engineer did some last minute adjustment? Did the AI approve of it? Was the driver aware... nvm she wouldn't understand a thing even if she was told.

Anyways, this another episode of "somebody better get fire for this".

W for Youran though, a perfect race to take the crown and a fitting victory for someone with talent, hardwork, resolve and solid amount of experience. Definitely someone I can root for.

I don't think so. This episode shows us that even if the driver makes a superb qualification, the team can also make mistakes. With this they have highlighted other characters.
I sincerely enjoyed it.

Well, after the buildup from Episode 8 featuring Rin being attuned to manual driving, Episode 9 decides to follow up on that by... having her sit out the race 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

If the showrunners weren't going to have Rin loose this round, it could have been done in a way without her being benched. This feels like reverse plot armor in action.

Damned shame the series decided to keep her out of this particular round. They made the Shanghai race more interesting than usual with new variables at play. Such as Youran winning. Kanata and Towa managing to catch up to just behind 3rd place helped in shaking things up.

Damn this series is infuriating at times. Everytime Rin makes one step forward in one episode, something happens in the next one and she DNFs or loses in some way or other. I get it that they wanted to give Youran a chance to shine, but they went about it in a cheap way.

Even with the new car, Rin is making improvements, and neither is both Lorenzo and Alice holding back as the race progresses.

A night race in Shanghai, where Rin comes 4th after qualifying...and Gen's fix being permanent that Rin can't even start her car from the get-go, and Lorenzo gutting his part of the race since he doesn't like night racing. That only leaves Alice and Richard on pole while Youran couldn't surpass them both, always looking for a breakthrough to reach the podium, now together with Kanata and Towa. And especially in a home race, Youran doesn't want to lose, and despite all odds, wins against Alice by a hair.

Will Rin stick to ami, or will she be kicked out of the race entirely?
