| Too much hentai, I guess. They feel embarrassed about it. And even without hentai, some people just prefer to keep things private. "Don't look at my lists. It's non of your business." Or something like that. |

| for like the first two years of being on mal I private my list and everyone accused me of watching hentai lol. i privated it mainly because I didn't want to talk about my list or scores with other people cuz the topic would come up and it would be boring. i don't care about arguing why you gave a show that i rated a 1 a 10. |

| People like to lie and say they have watched way more anime than they actually do, sometimes they will chose a currently airing show like One Piece and say they have watched over 2000 episodes of it, which inflates their total amount of days watched. |

| @MadanielFL I've never understood list inflation. It's honestly, like, the most detrimental thing you can do to yourself on this platform. If you put up anime you haven't watched, you risk losing track of the things you actually have and waste a couple hours rewatching something only to have that "Wait a minute, I already saw this!" moment. The worst is when MAL-Sync stops working on your phone or something, and you don't realize until a week later and have to retag everything from memory. |

| I never understand why some people feel the need to private their anime/manga lists. You are anonymous anyway, unless you've got irl friends looking at your lists I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed about. Everyone's free to do whatever they want and I just don't understand that. |

| It's probably someone's hentai alt account or they just like their privacy. As for me, the entire list (hentai included) is all public and out there, though since it's pretty long (been watching for nearly 30 years) I doubt many people will read the whole thing. |

| It is simply a sensible strategy to keep everything private on the internet unless it's beneficial for you not to do so. Public list is a gateway drug to posting photos of your toddlers on Facebook. /hj A public list is also a tool for many idiots to derail conversations. People can't stop themselves from looking at the list of a person they're responding to and coming up with some idiotic ad hominem rather than addressing the actual topic being discussed. |
