Where im from in rural japan pet beetles are really common and popular as such i have 2 stag beetles and 1 elephant beetle, they eat sap and honey and mushy fruits and they land on me and let me pet them and eat off my hand. People from other countries probably consider it a strange pet but in rural countryside areas of japan they've been popular for years and years, i also have a friend with a cat but its a really fat lazy cat 😂 what do you have or would like to get if you could?

Just have one cat right now. Had her from a kitten.

Could have gotten another of her sisters, but I've never had a kitten before, and it was trying at times.
She's not the absolute nicest cat in the world, mainly because she's scared of almost everything lol, she likes me though at least.
My family pretty much all have cats - my eldest sis has 2, my niece has 2, my nephew has 2 and my niece's friend also has 2. I'm the only one with 1🥴
I could possibly end up with my Sister's male cat, as she really wants to live between the UK & Spain, as she also has a house there. But she wouldn't be able to take him with her. Her other cat is 21 years old and is just about hanging in there.

Sometimes I try hatching sea monkeys, as I have loads of eggs & kits, but they don't always thrive. Their cute and easy to care for.

Used to always love rodents & rabbits. Had lots of both over the years, but don't have room in my small house.
Also my cat is always in hunter mode, she chases after and catches & eats flies and brings in moths & rubber bands from outside.

No pets for me because my parents imposed no-pets-policy at home based on their career choices, AKA chefs. But I do have an interest for cats. No pets, but I have cat-related decorations.

Never had one but I've thought about getting one in the future. Specifically a dog, although I like cats too. Don't know if I will though, especially since I know very little about taking care of pets.

Beetles aren't things I've ever considered as good pets, but now that you mention it I think I've changed my mind... they sound adorable, do you have any pictures of them OP? I love the look of beetles, they're very pretty little creatures. They seem a lot more interactive and friendly than I thought beetles would be, and honestly I just find the concept of keeping beetles very cool. I'm pretty sure my very first pet was actually a bug, a ladybug I think...

Anyways, I have a pet cockatiel (plenty of pictures of him on my profile, he's funny). All he does is eat, scream, fly around and make people laugh... In fact, he's very talented at those things! Eating especially (and sleeping, he sleeps a lot...). A thing my cockatiel really sucks at is, funnily enough, imitating any tunes. I'm convinced he's just a little prankster, though. I know for a fact it's not for lack of trying or him being unable to do it, but rather him being a little bastard.... He can imitate the fire alarm going off just fine after only hearing it a couple times 2 years ago but he for some reason can't imitate a silly song? I don't buy it. He's just a donkey with wings, I'm sure of it.

I think I'd like another pet bird at a later date, a caique or another cockatiel maybe. I can confidently say my little bird has brought a lot of joy into my life and also my husband's life (little guy is great at cheering people up, all he has to do is scream a little). I used to think that having pets isn't that great, but boy was I wrong...

I rambled. Tl;dr: show pet beetle pls they all sound cool plus stag beetles look metal as hell i love them also birds are funny and very lovely creatures but i think mine has autism

Currently only have a cat. She is rather laid back and lets me handle her (pick up, hug, etc.).

As for pets that I would be interested in, snakes. I've always liked snakes (I'd handle King snakes and Hognose snakes when I was younger.)
Summertime days, passing gently
Sunlight, leading to an encounter;
Dreams that don't want to end
Continue onwards toward the next day
While she waits in the air.

I'd had a cat for 18 years and she was incredible. she passed in 2020 and I still miss her all of the time. I don't feel ready to get another pet at the moment, so I'm content with hanging out with the neighbourhood cats.

Used to have a cat named Covey up until this summer and man I miss him. Here's some pictures that go way too hard:

I really wish we got a new cat.

I've only ever owned cats as pets, but I want pretty much everything as a pet. I see these videos of ducks, otters, etc. and they are all the cutest things ever, even if it wouldn't be realistic to actually own one.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

So, I used to have 5 cats, 30 fish, 4 turtles, 8 rabbits, a goat, 8 doves, 20 parrots, 10 chickens, 3 ducks, and a lot of other pets I can't recall throughout my life. Most of them died from old age. Now I don't have any pets since my mom has started to hate them and sees them as a waste of an investment.
While I still love animals (except dogs, which I'm deathly afraid of), I don't plan on having any pets in the near future. They can be a bit prohibitive to take care of and after losing so many pets, it can become traumatising. I don't want to get attached to them and experience their loss again.

@H-A-M-M-Y But you had their love for all of their lives, isn't that something? What of the term, better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? In other words, would you give away the pain of their loss if it meant to lose the memories with them as well? I think of the pets I have had and people I have romantically loved and I can tell you it's a resounding, NO.

That being said, I could understand not wanting to deliberately sign yourself up for that inevitable pain again. But how would life look if we never grew socially, if we never made new friends or relationships because we were afraid of someday losing them? Perhaps it is again my personal experience talking again, but I notice that souls which take that route tend to lead quite sad lives indeed, my friend

@KingOfPneumos

True. And I am grateful for the love they gave me. And that term does ring well, showing one's worth in others' lives and vice versa.
OK, so I've never loved anyone romantically, but I understand what you mean. So, in my case, I won't give up my memories of them either. But here's one problem I have after their loss: regret. So, I feel that maybe I didn't treat them well. Maybe I wasn't a good owner. What if I'm unable to look after future pets properly when I'm busy with my work and such? This is a feeling that has grown a lot ever since I graduated from university and got a job. And quite frankly, I think the lack of time I have these days would also discourage me from having a pet. 😅

And I agree with you on making new friends and building new relationships is essential for growing socially. However, I haven't lost any of the friends I've made so far and from what I've observed, friends who have left your life would sometimes return later on, making that feeling of loss comparatively less painful to losing a pet. I mean, a pet who's died isn't coming back, but there's hope that a friend who's alive and well will. Even so, thanks for sharing your personal experience. It was quite insightful and I'll make sure not to live a sad life. You stay safe and healthy too. :D

And perhaps with your friends which will not return some day, it's simply the way life goes sometimes, as unfortunate as it is. Reaching out is often possible, but sometimes the best thing to do is recognize that the two of you have grown apart and leave it at that. Who knows? You're right, maybe they will return some day. Maybe I'm just projecting here and reminiscing too much about a certain someone, eheheh...

One thing I'd like to mention is the feeling of regret you have. It's important to think heavily on that feeling on regret; why do you feel it? Could you have truly done something different? Was that something different somethat that was expected of you, or simply an alternative action you came up with after the fact that might have been a better course of action? The important part is that you realize the regret itself - it's a mark that you want to be better the next time, and you can! You have to allow yourself to be vulnerable and try again. You care, and that's a large part of what makes one a good person.

Wow, I am projecting here... anyway, hope this helps you in some regard!!! I hope you do lead a happy life, indeed :)

I don't have any pets. I used to have a turtle when I was a kid.
In my area, traditional pets to have are birds such as bulbul, mina and parakeet. I wish I had a bulbul.

@Kamikaze_404 You underestimate me, if my dinner can't kill me neither can you.

1/10 is pushing it though, I mean, pain makes people stronger... So it's not just about the food, it's the mental fortitude that it brings.

So I've heard, gonna go cry now.

@KingOfPneumos

Sad but true. One would be very lucky to keep all their friends. But like you said, that's how life goes and there are times one has to move on. Otherwise, it can take a severe toll on a person's mental health. I saw this happen to a few people I know. And haha. Don't worry about it. I don't mind you projecting. And as for that certain someone, I hope things go well for you. There's no harm in reminiscing. :)

As for why do I feel regret, it's normally the alternate actions that I come up with. I often think about the steps I should have taken earlier. I'll admit that I had been negligent on many occasions when looking after my pets. After they die, I always have this "what could have been" scenario that pops into my head and even experimented with those scenarios. Well, I just pray that I can improve further and, like you said, try and try again. 😅

And hey! Don't worry about it! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and they have been helpful. And thanks again. :D

Probably bring a street dog or a stray cat home. In the past, I used to feed a cat, so she gave birth to a few kittens that lived in my home, and I successfully cared for three generations of that cat. Currently, there are no animals in my home, but I do feed the stray cats and street dogs.

Istanbul has the right approach towards pets. One should not "own" animals.
