Are there things in anime that you enjoy despite the constant criticism and complaints, or vice versa that you monstrously hate, even though everyone is either enthusiastic or neutral about it?

I don't like idols or idol performances in general. Most times I skip those scenes. Probably one of the reasons I couldn't stand Oshi no Ko tbh

I like Isek*i.
I never skip OPs and EDs, I even watch the credits and never skip any episodes even if they may be 'fillers'.

I dislike This particularly weird trope of anime where normal people are unaware of things that a special group of people are . Like demons in kny , jjk , noragami , csm, Bleach , tokyo ghoul etc. Like so much destruction happens in cities , tons of people die yet rest of the world is completely unaware of its existence.
I still love some of these series i just hope they get used less from now on...
Also people seem to hate it when there's no romantic development or romance in general in romance / romcom anime but that doesn't bother me at all. Like it taking 3 seasons for kaguya sama, oregairu and all.

This definitely doesn't apply to csm, demons are known worldwide, and are actively reported on in the news, everyone knows about them.

Otherwise, yeah, I strongly agree with the sentiment.

As much as Fairy Tail obviously has dedicated fans, I know there's (justified) dislike and even hatred of it. I completely get why. It's corny, it's cliche, power of friendship bullshit at every turn, all that shit.

But goddamn if it isn't a fun watch for me every time. I'll always love my stupid little wizard friendship show.

i love isekais that are based in games. the more detailed the game mechanics, the better for me. but i understand that some people can get very tired of the overexploitation of the genre.

I actually enjoy the constant mishaps & miscommunications in romcoms like Nisekoi & Rental Girlfriend. I don't really watch them for serious romantic development.

On another note, I have no problems with Kirito being overpowered and think he's fine the way he is.

Huh, not really sure I can think of a good example for the first part.  Maybe just generic, bland, self-insert, OP lead characters.  For whatever reason I still get a kick out of seeing the repetitive cliche of the no body being the strongest.

For the second part, I don't know if this still holds true, but man if this wasn't true when the original FMA first started airing in America.  I grew to almost hate it, but for a specific time and place I'm not sure if I can think of a more beloved show.

Didn't mean it like that, but like the show should have some seriousness to it, to break up the comedy. Basically the opposite of comic relief.
But I guess we talked past each other initially.

Well, we are discussing anime, an area of content where even the most delusional shows are able to create a Shakespearean drama at the end.

"I'm not like others"

I am exactly like everybody, but with two exceptions:

1. I don't like melodrama.
2. I don't like shows which try really hard to hype me.

Those types of shows tend to be emotionally manipulative and I despise that.

For some reason 1. and 2. ruin for me 70% of the most popular shows, 90% of the battle shounen and 100% of sport anime.

So shows like Kimetsu no Yaiba, G-Witch and ReZero don't work well for you? I mean, a show with famous emotional swings.

I am following The Witch from Mercury only for the mecha porn and to a some degree from morbid curiosity - how stupid it will get?

I don't mind emotional swings, but only if those are done properly. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is a good example of that, it balances well all its ingredients.
As opposed to your regular soap opera for teens like Re:Zero which do that in very inept ways. It tries to push all your emotional buttons...but the drama hogs (who are 70% of the general population) are already irresponsible to such stimulus...so the authors try HAMMERING the whole keyboard. The result is a mess.
Occasionally unintentionally funny mess, but that would be a rare "so bad it's good" jam.

Don't like viewers who are looking for drama for the sake of drama and are ready to raise the show's ratings just because someone is brutally killed there or someone suffers, because any drama for them is a sign of the "maturity" of the show?

i remember being the first comment under the op on the second episode of "hikari no ou" a few months ago and nonchalantly praising its still illustrations plus the soundtracks. the vast majority were not so pleased with the use of illustrations and lack of budget among other things however. i even had someone quote to accuse me of getting paid to blatantly lie, which in retrospect is funny to me now. i was legitimately happily content lol. ah well.

In general I don't mind those people, apparently everybody has their own definition of maturity.
My problem is with rabid fans who push their favorite tearjerker as "peak fiction", "must see" and "modern classic" in the face of everyone.

Most of the anime might contain a few flaws here and there, but everyone has their own liking so it's up to them whether they like watching that anime or not after all.

My example of this take is "Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie" anime, almost all of those reviewers dropped the anime after they watched it for 3 episodes or so even though they didn't watch it 'till the end. I also had the same feeling but I'm glad I didn't drop it and gave it a 7/10.
