| So often when talking about anime people talks about main series or sequel/prequels of that main series. So Madoka Magica and its sequel film Rebellion. Or Mobile Suit Gundam and its prequel series 'The Origin'. But spin-offs are often regarded poorly because they branch out and do something different in an established world. Often focusing on brand new cast with little cross over from the main cast from the primary work. I'll list some of my favourite ones below; Mobile Suit Gundam, has a fair amount of spin off series many of which set in the Universal Century. Whilst these self contained narratives don't really effect the wider plot found in the main series and films I like how they expand the scope of the world and explore the other themes of the work. They really help make Gundam feel like a huge universe akin to say Star Wars (before Disney - I weep for my past).  War in the Pocket is a excellent short series, which is remarkably well paced and intrigue for its character development despite it short run time. It might be my favourite work from Gundam, as it feels the most grounded of all the series I've seen. Madoka Magica Magia Record, okay admitting I liked this might get me killed. But I'm gonna do it anyway.  I liked the Madoka universe, so the idea of more stories and more Magical Girls suffering for their wishes was an interesting concept for a series. Plus the main narrative of a mystery that needed to be solved felt compelling enough to watch the series fully. Whilst obviously not as good as Madoka Magica and Rebellion I don't think everything needs to be a masterpeice to be a fun and meaningful watch. Fate, has a lot of spin offs. Like a lot it up their with stuff like the U.C. in how much side content their is to enjoy.  For me I really liked Apocrypha so far, I liked them all, but Apocrypha was the first Fate thing I watched so I have a pretty strong bias. However it dose show the formula for getting a bunch of past heroic spirts and having them clash for an omnipotent wish granting chalice isn't a one and done narrative hook. So those are mine what are yours? |

 Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Operation Stardust Memory. Classic 90s OVA mecha action  Mobile Suit Gundam the 8th MS Team awesome short series about mobile suit pilots in the One Year War.  And one you mentioned before Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket amazing short OVA series  Dirty Pair also and a fair share of spins or more appropriately Side Stories such as the Nolandia Affair and the Flight 555 Incident  Also the Crusher Joe OVA's are cool side stories  Toradora Bento Battle a short one off episode about a Bento Battle between Ryuuji and Yuusaku Grandma over Bentos. |

| Danmachi: Sword Oratoria was actually better than the main series. Same with Carnival Phantasm and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun. While Tensura Nikki was not better than its slimey parent story, I still enjoyed watching it. Same with Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou. |
| No I am not I consider Tatamy Galaxy spinoff movie much better than original Tatamy Galaxy. Almost everything in Gundam franchise is standalone. What is spin-off and what is not? My favorite is 08 MS Team. |

| Manaria Friends, had no business looking that great, production wise. The relationship dynamic between the two MCs was very fun to watch as well. Pokémon: Twilight Wings, probably my favorite Pokemon spin off in recent years. Railgun is a good one as well, the whole Raildex series is one of my favs. |
| War on Geminar and Magical Girl Pretty Sammy (spin offs of tenchi muyo) are both as good as the main series. As for gundam, I have a lot to say but I don't know where the line between "spin off" and "side story" is drawn. Also are AUs spin offs? |

| I haven't watched too many spinoffs. I'll say The Cat Returns (Neko no Ongaeshi) by default since it's the only spinoff I can think of that I've seen (at least, according to my definition of a spinoff) Edit: OH WAIT, I forgot about Paradise Kiss! I mean, that's technically a spinoff of Gokinjo Monogatari, right? |

| Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan is one of my favorite anime ever, and its a fate/stay night spinoff. ViVid Strike! is another spinoff i love because its about martial arts, but i don't know much about the original series Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. |
