This feels like a character study of Kuumi and the themes of experimentation at work.

Honestly, this show has been getting slightly darker and seems like the anime has a case of identity problem too. Not going to lie, this episode was kinda sad.

Damn kumi backstory was really messed up. Even if they’re clones they’re still essentially human so the treatment they were subjected to was appalling. The guy who tried to help her breakout is the MVP of the series for teaching her about life and breaking her from the brainwashing. Shame her counterpart today didn’t have someone like that until the end.

Jiro and Kumi face their opponents Facade and Kumi the 23rd one more time, but not without giving some context to her as a character story.

Kumi the 22nd's backstory, along with the main story's reasoning of humanity triumphing over monsters with the numerous prototype experiments that kept failing over and over again, all of these information is constantly reported to Lord Bakla. But when in regard to the 22nd and 23rd prototypes, the former's opposing powers become too strong to ignore, and knowing that, Zeke makes a run for it while carrying her out of the facility to a safe haven with none of the "darkness" BS of "being the cornerstone of salvation".

The chant spoken like an endless mantra, and Kumi running towards the light to freedom, that's her salvation. To that extent, the Cleric-less artificial Paladin Facade facing against Jiro with Kumi wanting to convince and save her 23rd counterpart, it's a risk that she can't afford to miss. Kumi trying her best to avoid the 23rd's demise, but sadly, there's no way around it to convince of its departing.

Certainly, a very dark and ominous episode.

Thinking about it, now I know why I like this anime, because makes me remember of Chaika. And I love Chaika.

I thought was weird the credits mid episode, but was a great choice.
Share memories with touch, that's neat.

Myaa had a super cool ring and she didn't know, now is Kumi's problem.

Curse you! Mezami. This was super depressing. Mezami, if you want to help humanity that much. The first thing you need to do is sacrifice yourself by letting those rampage monsters eat you alive bit by bit.

Definitely the best episode so far, with the backstory and the direction overall. Seeing the credits mid episode was a bit strange, but I understand why. The brainwashing is brutal, and seeing the clones go through what they did was quite sad. Kumi had a salvation that wasn't death, but that's not the case for her counterpart, who met her demise, even with Kumi's best efforts to bring her to the light. A dark, and very solid episode, and I wonder where we go from here.

damn, harsh experimentation but that flashback was certainly needed. kuumi's a talk-no-jutsu specialist.

I think that this was the best, but probably saddest, episode so far. We got more backstory on Kumi and the clones and are shown how cruel how they're treated and brainwashed. The guy that sacrificed himself while trying to escape with Kumi ended up helping her break out of the brainwashing but it was too late for number 23. Looks like next episode some people will go after Kumi considering they're essentially atomic bombs that can go off.

I'm kinda curious about the figure that the dying Kumi saw moments before passing away and the real nature of the empire's queen because that eye closeup accompanied with that last line of dialogue made it clear that she's not exactly a normal human.

What a great episode. They really went out of their way to show Kumi's dark past that they skipped the ED to add more time. So these Kumi clones are not only potential clerics, but also used as tactical nukes too as a result of countless experiments.

I guess Kumi just unlocked her language skill tree really fast after seeing someone getting killed.

This episode only made me realize that we wasted too much time in some parts
Had it been a mix of the first 3 episodes and this one,it would have had a bigger reception

In hindsight important stuff did happen even during in the three sluggish episodes (3 to 5), like meeting new characters, lightly developing Jiro (and his crew) and advancing the political games in the empire's palace, so I don't think it's fair to say that any time was wasted.

Yes,I am not saying everything was a waste

Just the anime's momentum was halted, everything could have easily happened in just 2 episodes. Nothing major,I just felt like the show could have done more with the momentum it carried for the first 2-3 episodes

Well then, I can absolutely agree with that.
Ars started strong, dramatically slowed down, moved with lethargic speed for a few episodes and then started speeding up again from the half point onward.
Let's hope it will keep going at the current pace up until the final episode's end credits.

The context is completely different, though.
In Automata the androids say that because their purpose is to serve humanity, but in Ars that phrase is loaded with a strong sentiment of human supremacy.

Beautiful and amazing gripping story telling with visuals to match. If only those idiots could of just done what the old man said and stay on the ship the outcome might of been entirely different.

OOF

The other clone essentially had a self destruct already implanted inside of her.

Poor Kumi, guess she can't save any of the other clones.

It's literally going to become some sort of "clone war" as Kumi fights off the other clones that's already send to the evil empire as they kill off all other races.

Not to mention Jiro having to fight his old friend that's brainwashed... not only did Jiro lose his Wife, but he also lost his friend. TWICE... cause Jiro thought Facade already died once...

Was really close to dropping this show. First episodes were pretty much the same we keep getting over and over again and plain boring... However it really did pick up in these last 3 ones!

Just crossing my fingers these don't turn out to be some weird ass loli clones of toka's dead body (given they showed toka's "spirit" reaching down to the blond clone once she was passing away... and they could have just retrieved her and facade from the snow massacre or some dumb shit like that).

That was a messed up backstory.

Kuumi managed to contain that blast with the ring. Wonder what else that ring can do.

So Kumi is a failed product because she doesn't look the same and can communicate with others? How did she become a cleric? Also, rip the leader of the mountaineers /: we finally got a good episode again, although it was really sad.
