| well most harem anime makes it pretty obvious from the very first episode who the winning girl is. But the first season of Kaminomi tricks the viewer because of how the winning girl is portrayed visually. No way would anyone guess it's her. |

| There is difference between trolling the audience and comedy. Trolling audience is giving them opposite of what they expect in the bad way. Where authors should have known it is not what they expected and it would hurt their feelings. Madoka Magica Rebellion is the most glaring example here. Authors should have known that people like Homura for how self-sacrificing she was to save Madoka, yet still decided to turn her into villain in Rebellion. Jigoku Shoujo 3rd season should be there as well. Second seasons of Kaiji, Gochiusa or Roberta Blood Trial could have a benefit of a doubt. It is not clear if authors ruined them deliberately or just by mistake due to not getting the fine details of the originals. I did not watched Stocking and Garter Belt but possibly this as well. Gintama on the other hand is often faithful to its own brand of comedy and 'idiocy'. Up to episode 300 or so. It kind of slowly slides down to worse from approximately ep 250 to 300 (can't remember the exact one, however Omiyoji ark and Renho invasion ark are still Gintama at its finest). However it is a slow slide down rather than abrupt pitfall like with Madoka Rebellion. |

| Kinda hard to say. For non-comedy shows, the best example I have in Battle spirits: Heroes. I mean, it's a comedy, but the part I'm talking about isn't. Not on the level of Level E ep. 4 or Samurai Flamenco, or the Gintama thing (I was double checking the chapter number a few times, when I was approaching the end).< Could BBB or it's sequel count? Probably not, from the first episode, you understand that everything is on the table. However, the author's other work, Trigun, at least the original anime, had a troll start. Not incredibly effective by today's standards, I would argue, but worth mentionning. The first season of Showa Genroku Rakugou Shinjuu set something up, but you'd probably not consider it a prank. The end credits of Inferno Cop's last episode. Gal & Dino as well as Pop team epic, for being half the content you were expecting. Didn't include any 'outside of the viewing of the content' stuff. |
