What is your favorite non-original anime whose original source is not LN or manga? Do you think this played a role in making this show great?

Ginga eiyuu densetsu is pretty cool, it's based on a novel, you could make an argument based on the difference between writing quality in novels and light novels I guess. Although Tian Guan Ci Fu and Mo Zu Shi are also technically based on novels because light novel is a primarily japanese term. I guess you could say that light novels are a contemporary to ya literature in the west anyway.

Edit: I also really like Paprika, which is also based on a novel.

Clannad and Steins;Gate, back when VN adaptations were a thing

To be honest, I'm somewhat surprised that in 2022 people are still calling Gate and not Cyberpunk, for example.

Steins;Gate and Fate Stay Night immediately pops into my mind

And nah, I don't think being a VN helped these shows great. Quite the opposite in fact cause being an anime adaptation of a 60+ hours long novel is guaranteed to be a failure.
There's so much missing content from VN-adapted anime normally, but S;G and Fate might as well be the exceptions. The VNs of these two are still far superior tho

I wasted all my time in rewatching to the point of my rewatch total is higher than my overall anime total lmao

Persona 4 The Animation which is based on the ps2 version of one of the best games ever made. Anime added a lot of great humor to the fantastic game.

Agreed on Steins;Gate, as a visual novel.

It's probably Shinsekai Yori, which was adapted from a "legit" sci-fi novel (i.e., not a light novel). I think that, despite the adaptation needing to cut a fair amount of stuff from the book (which resulted in some clunky pacing occasionally), and despite the production troubles the staff evidently went through while making it, the anime succeeds in translating some utterly fascinating and compelling ideas onto the screen, as well as setting a highly specific mood and tone that I've seen few other anime even attempt to pull off.

I would have to say God of High School. The korean manhua is pretty good. The anime didnt do the series justice because it only covered a few chapters and didnt get to the good part. Idk if there ever will be a season 2

Princess Connect is really good, it’s based off a gacha game. The main four are very entertaining and Season 2 was incredible. Some of the fight scenes were amazing and there were a lot of great character moments that made my cry a lot. Highly recommend it.

Kemono Friends. Great anime while its source is a mobile game nobody knows about and I'm not sure even exists.

In my top 10, I classify my anime as 3 types: Those that I gave a 10/10 to, those that I would give a 9/10 to, and those that I like a lot, but obvious constraints would make me score them lower.
All to say, out of the three that I give 10/10s to, 2 are originally webcomics.
You could say that OPM S1 is based on the manga (since there's not much difference between the manga and webcomic at that point, content-wise), but you can't say that Idaten is.
No, I don't think that the fact it was a webcomic makes a difference. Maybe the author had more creative leaway?

Does Avatar the last Airbender and The Legend of Korra count? Because they were created by a an american team and a US TV Cartoon channel, but it is so good it has at least the "soul" of an anime?

I guess i'd have to say Fate/Stay Night as a whole (encompassing all 3 Routes) since it's a visual novel adaptation. Though admittedly, i don't think i've watched many other shows that draw from that same medium, so it's not like i have a large enough sample pool to pick from anyway.
