Thank you for the info @deg.

If this leak is true, there may be some explanations. Maybe the original plan had been just to make seasons not a movie. However, the production committee decided to squeeze the content into a movie for better revenue. Hence, the Mugen Train arc's contents in this season 2 will look like an uncut version.

Another explanation may come from deals with TV stations. It's possible that TV stations want to broadcast Mugen Train under the form of smaller episodes to fit their time slots and earn money from advertisement.

In the end, it is all boiled down to money. I hope their weird decision does not backfire and ruin the series's reputation.

Yes the movie is like the real s2, it was the story after s1 but they made it a film. The movie is the arc after season 1

Reminds me of DBS where the first two arcs where an extended version of the movies. I don't mind at all.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

That is...interesting. I mean I did feel the Mugen Train movie might've been better as part of the main show, but to repeat the same arc again is weird. It'd be one thing if the movie weren't all that successful or hard to find, but it's literally the biggest film in Japanese history and is ready available to everyone. So we won't actually get new content until late November/December. Hopefully this doesn't backfire as I'm sure most people will be disappointed to hear the first part of the new season will be an extended version of a story they already saw.

I really wasn’t expecting 2 cours. I still don't get why they would cover the train arc again.

This reminds me of gintama benizakura arc, but reverse. The studio adapted the arc in the anime (episode 58-61), but much later on they announced that a movie that covers the arc is coming out.

Literally no point in covering the arc in the second season all over again. Welp, money comes first than the audience's interest anyways.

Why are Japan so obsessed with retelling things in recap episodes, it makes no sense and there’s no explanation. No other countries have recap episodes and movies, we are like 24 movies into the MCU and we haven’t had a recap movie so why? I just want the new content now😭 I don’t wanna have to wait until they retell the movie to get to the new stuff😭
Please stop, I don’t want to see any more Dekugo😭

It's weird because ufotable did mugen train as a movie because it was deemed the best format for it. So why repeat it?

There is the legends series which recaps character's stories but it's only for the characters who are becoming relevent for the Disney plus series.

Many western or american shows do recaps in their tv series, like MCU shows do recaps, like wandavision, TFATWS and loki.

It might be a recap, and if it is I guess its for most of the people to be up to date with the story so that those people who havent seen the movie or dont know that it exist ( even though this scenario seems impossible now that its the highest grossing film of 2020 ) than those people wont miss a chance at it.
And actually I wouldnt mind it as well cause I can see the animation a hundred times and still not get bored.
The only concern is that I hope they dont cut off pages from the red light district arc cause I want no comprimise in the upcoming arcs.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

then will it be like dragon ball super? Well, I wouldn't mind seeing that arc again, although a little extended would be a bit boring, however, I wonder if they used the same images and scenes that they used in the movie to save time.

Doesn’t make any kind of sense or whatsoever. They are even airing the movie some days before the start of season 2 on the same channel. More than likely not true, and if it happens to be true, then I wouldn’t really care as long as we get new content.

I’d honestly be ok with that because I loved the movie so it would be cool to see especially if the reuse/improve the animation, and it will also be cool for people who could see the movie.

I don't think there will be any retelling of the Mugen train arc in S2 as the movie will be shown on Fuji tv on Sept 25. S2 is most likely going to be completely new material where the events start from immediately after the film.

If they do actually put the first arc as basically a rerun of mugen train it's gonna be a bummer to wait but I don't think ufotable would do that. We should wait until the news is confirmed.
I read on animenewsnetwork that mugen train is going to air on tv in September so I feel it's more unlikely that the season 2 will cover mugen train.

We'll have to wait and see
