Around 30% of people who buy and read Shonen Jump manga are over 25. That's shonen manga ignoring other manga magazines like Seinen which likely skew even older. Considering the money needed to often to support this industry I would bet a good portion comes from older fans.

There are anime and manga I honestly only started appreciated now in my early 20's that I never did as a teen. Maturity is only related to how you behave your hobbies have no factor in it. Get in and get out whenever you wish.

“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” - CS Lewis

why stop at 40 tho XP I am 45 and am watching anime, reading manga almost every day - you don't lose interest in a hobby because some years passed
every time this thread pops up again I am honestly wondering what in the world gives people that idea ? that once you turn *insert random number* you suddenly feel different about things you like
It certainly beats playing golf with a bunch of flaccid, overweight men who think shouting at sports ball is the ultimate affirmation of manhood.

Absolutely not, there are multiple entire demographics of anime targeted at adults like Seinen (for adult males), Jousei (for adult females), and hentai (pornography).

No, why should you care even if it was weird? You shouldn't think so much about what other people think. You'll live a better life. Do what you want, watch what you want.

I didn’t get into anime until I was 20, I was probably at the mindset that thought anime fans were cringey weirdo’s to put it in nicer terms. I pretty much had nothing to entertain myself in 2018 so I decided why not give anime a try, and I’m glad I did, it’s pretty much made a huge change in my life just from something as silly as having a fun hobby. Have met plenty of cool people who are into anime, and weirdly enough it made more a more social person somehow lol, I’ll definitely be sticking with anime until I’m in my death bed.

You could be 50 and there would still be no problem. Anime doesn't have an age limit so keep on watching it if you enjoy it.

Honestly my opinion is and I'm probably gonna get bashed for this but my opinion is that if you are 25 and you don't have a stable job and still live in your parents house and your watching anime that's a big problem and you need to get up off your ass and FIND A JOB, then again if you do have a stable job and your providing for others or yourself I see no problem in watching it.

To sum it up if your a bum that cant hold a job, living in your parents house then its a problem

But if you've made a good living and watching anime does not prohibit your success be my guest.

No not at all. Anime is for everybody and can be enjoyed by any age group. If you enjoy something, no matter what it is or your age, enjoy it, nothings wrong with it.

Wait, you mean that people under 25 watch anime? Weird.
Now seriously, good things don't have an age. I'm sure I'll still appreciate my favorite shows when I'm 80 and gaga.

the majority of serious anime watchers ARE 25+ x.O; DBZ, Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, even Inuyasha, before stuff like Bleach and Naruto the first big wave of anime fans were welcomed thanks to Toonami which eventually became Adult Swim. It didn't take long for the addiction to set in and solidify the "western front." Of course, those who were really addicted took a huge backlash early on since it was originally thought of as no different from sunday morning cartoons. When people found out that it was anything but, they immediately pointed at the pre-teens in short skirts and labeled it pedo-fodder... *shudders* those were hard day, as you continue to try and explain that anime is even more diverse than live action, but all they see is doodles on the screen.

The thing you have to watch out for when you get 25+ is the amount of income you are spending on your hobby x.x 200 USD for a body pillow of your waifu and suddenly you're buying the entire Highschool DxD cast so you can pretend you have your own harem, spending 50% of your income on blue-ray releases because of the special bonus disk -.- Flying to japan just so you can see akibara... you're out of college now, you should be thinking of saving money for a good car and a decent place to live so you can pick up a girl that you then need to pay for a wedding... yet remember to keep saving up so you can afford a good divorce lawyer... Oh, and remember that otaku language should only be used among fellow otakus. Other than that, your boss will probably ask you what your favorite anime is (I know someone who during their job interview for a branch office at a law firm had this happen after he accidentally left his laptop wallpaper as an anime photo)

You are kidding me? Dude, you live in an era, were is cool to be a geek and like anime. We have celebrities, athletes and all sort of peoples who are open about it. When I was your age, it was uncool. Peoples treated you like a weirdo, because ''you watch cartoons'' ... Is amazing how far we got in just 10 years. So no, it's not weird. Adults took over a lot of shit meant for children and teens. Video games is an example. So is cartoons. Go to the next Pixar animation release and see what proportion of the peoples in the cinema are adults. Princess... Remember My Little Pony? They made it for 7yo old girls... then we got brownies... If some 40yo dude in a basement, can enjoy Pony porn, and still be a (somewhat) normal adult, you can definitely watch anime at 25yo.

I'm due to the exceed that. I'm 40 now. In fact I've been binge watching anime of late. Shounen sports, drama ect. I'll still pick up digimon or something too.

I think at 17 it's like a long way away but at 40 I'm just thinking I'm still the same person I just have a bit more under the belt.

In fact I think my tastes have expanded and gotten better as I've gotten older.

To add when I was 17 there was very little choice out there. Especially with limited access of anime in the UK. Now there is so much more and I want to enjoy as much of it as possible.

Everyone was not a kid when they started to watch anime.

I was between 16 -> 18 when I found Hellsing on youtube.
And been a fan of anime ever since.

The only wierd thing is, if you stop giving a shit about youself just because you're watching anime.

Hate to break it to you kid, but you simply have no sense of perspective. Your life = grade school. Give it time, you'll see. Come back and read this thread in 10 years and you'll have a good laugh.

Also, it would be to your benefit to aim to not be so impressionable. But maybe, like other things, that comes with time too.

NOPE! NOT AT ALL!
Me and many of my friend in the same age (both in real life and online) have been watching anime regularly since student, and even we’re graduated and have working life, we’re still watching anime, playing game, reading novel manga, collecting figures and all.
Actually, I have even more time for watching anime than I was studying lol.

And there’re many anime I didn’t understand when I was young (especially seinen/psycho anime) and when I rewatched them, I can understand them more.

So do whatever that make you happy and as long as it doesn’t disturb other people ^^

Why would it be weird? Aside from some very specific examples (e.g. shows for actual literal babies), there isn't an age limit on what media you can enjoy.

I'll hunker down and watch Jaws and Cinderella in the same sitting, because who the fuck has any right to tell me not to?

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

I started seriously around 20 years old so nop. And why do u to wait so long?
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

This made me laugh, it's quite a sweet question actually.

It's not weird, since anime is a type of entertainment and art form itself. But, and feel free to disagree, it's a tad weird to wear/or use an excessive amount of anime merchandise past mid 20's.

I turned 25 this year. I stopped watching anime at 20 thinking I need to focus on other things like adulting, social life and whatnot. In the end, I returned to the hobby at 24 and I regret the 4 years that I was outdated loool

Seriously, a lot of older people are starting to play video games. And no, I'm not talking about Candy Crush. I recently saw an article that tells the story of a woman in her 50's playing Animal Crossing. I also came across a video of a middle-aged woman playing Mobile Legends. 15-year old obtaining college degrees, starting their business. Girls in their mid 30's attending Kpop concerts. Doesn't matter as long as you're still within the law.

Younger people always have this kids vs adults dichotomy running through their minds that's instilled by societal pressures pushing you through the assembly line of life. It's a self-serving narrative that after you graduate high school, you go to college, then establish a career, then marry, then have kids, then give back to the community, and the cycle restarts. In reality, adults realize that's a myth. When you're 19, you feel a big change going into adulthood, but after your mid-20s, you don't feel any different. Nothing significant changes. You still do what you've always done.
