Happy April Fools! Thanks to everyone who forgot what time of year it was and got fooled by our prank for a few seconds again~ We hope it made you laugh once you figured it out. To the number of people who seemed legitimately concerned... April Fools is a tradition around MAL, something we've been doing for over a decade. Try not to take goofy site changes literally when they're posted around the first of April :'D Though of course I hope you'll forget this advice until after you're fooled again next year. Site will return to normal at 23:59 PDT. Enjoy it while it lasts. For List Designers: We'll look into keeping the score classes in the list design (empty) for your devious disposal. After careful consideration, we have decided it's time to update MAL's 10-1 scoring system. We have heard complaints for many years that users do not know how to use the 10 scale effectively. Then there are users who cannot make do with only 10 scores, and insist 0.5 points are needed. But even more importantly, while MAL's not getting any younger, anime fans are. To pull in the younger generation of fans, it is critical that we have a scoring system that they can understand without the community needing to explain how it works. This is where an emoji-based rating system comes in. To make this a smooth transition for everyone, we have translated your existing scores to emoji based on the following table:  For Phase 1, we are beginning with only these 10 emoji. However, we plan to expand to include more emoji, and have been considering a number of possibilities, including...:  We'd like to get feedback from the community to decide our final list of emoji, and which order is best to rank them in. Until this is decided, the Top pages will remain with the above score-translated emoji, as we consider more in-depth how to modify their rankings. (Most 🤷♀️?) This change was a long time coming and we hope you are as excited as us at this positive step forward for MAL! |

| Extremely upset because I freaked when I saw the scores on the anime pages replaced by emojis and when I checked for announcements I found this page and honestly freaked out even more.
