gore and tits are what keep me going. I love them.
growing up doesn't mean you start to look down on fanservice. quite the opposite. it's knowing it doesn't make a show, but fully accepting it.
realistic gore is great, because you know the artist went through the trouble to illustrate all the muscles and bones. learning anatomy is key to artists anyway.
gore played for laughs is also good, if it's over the top silly.
the inbetween where it just looks bad and played to bait edgy fanboys into thinking they're watching something cool is just lame and weak.

I don't mind it but I only really like it when it's aetheticized or when it's funny, basically when it has entertainment value because of the form/framing/execution and not just because it's violence. In Movies Quentin Tarantino is the master of that, but there are also plenty of examples in anime, probably even more because animation allows for more freedom in that regard. Although in animation there is just just the question of choreography and framing but also that of animation quality, which makes the requirements to qualify a bit higher.

But yeah whether it's the perfectly animated aethetic choreographies of a Cowboy Bebop or Sword of the Stranger, or the exaggerated, emotional and often hilarious action scenes in Imaishi shows, I can definitely appreciate the entertainment value of a well crafted and executed act of violence.

I didn't mention violence as a plot-relevant element in the narrative and that's because I feel indifferent about that in the sense of being able to appreciate what it adds to the narrative or themes or characterization, but that's like an additonal layer not directly related to enjoying the violence itself. Enjoying anything (violence or something else) for what it adds to the plot or characterization doesn't really reflect on whether you enjoyed it on its own.
I probably regret this post by now.

Depends on the context, violence is too broad to just label every scene with it as something I like or dislike. I don't like it when it's just mindless and all for the gore, but damn if a well choreographed and animated fight scene doesn't keep my eyes glued to the screen.

I love violence in anime , I would watch it even if its gore and realistic but violence without a purpose isn't my thing...

It depends how it affects the story. As a few guys above have posted, there's nothing to like or dislike. It's just a part of storytelling in general.

"Violence is one of the most fun things to watch" - Quentin Tarantino.

Yes it indeed is, but only in certain contexts should I agree with Tarantino on his take.

In the case of over-the-top edgy violence, it's fun because it's thoughtlessly brutal with reckless superficial deaths that arouses our brain with strong sense of excitement, despite being nothing beyond mere fan-service.

Whereas about thematically significant and powerful violence, it on the other hand has layers and depth to worth thinking and discussing. I wouldn't say this type of violence is "fun", for it might be genuinely upsetting and frighteningly realistic. Regardless, it is often satisfying for it serves purposes of what is being presented, so I do appreciate this type of violence.

However, in cases where violence is only a form of fan-service yet takes itself too seriously (of course without much contribution to the actual themes), it might turn into tasteless violence, the worst form out of all which I absolutely despise and hardly ever enjoy.

Depends on the context. I mean, love seeing anime characters beat the crap out of each other in manly fight scenes, but needless violence in SoL animes meant for shock-value? Yeah, not my cup of tea.

Yeh, for a bit when I used to watch a lot of 90s anime when the animation was grungy and more violent/dark... o__o

Everything's really clean these days so it doesn't feel violent or scary lol.

Yanderes can be fun to watch even if I don't agree with them.
I like when a character that I appreciate defend themselves or people they care about. Other than that it doesn't happen often but if a character I really love get attacked, especially for no reasons or very dumb reasons, then I can get mad and it can even make me hate some characters because of what they have done.
Other than that if it doesn't make me sad then I just think it's part of the story and nothing more, and continue to watch without any problem.

When I was younger I used to be a real edgy boy! Loved me some yandere wrecking sh*t up, like in Higurashi, School Days, Mirai Nikki, Genocyber, Elfen Lied, Deadman Wonderland, A Kite... I watched them all! They felt deep to me... lmao. I also just liked seinen a lot, like Gantz, Kaiji, Ninja Scroll, 90s OVA's. It was fun stuff. As I grew up I still find such anime very entertaining when they have to revolve around fighting. Like Fist of the North Star, Baki, Jojo, HxH.

Granted I don't think most of them hold up well... and if it doesn't have good characters or story to pull it through I find them to be horrendous, or just torture porn. The same reason I never liked Corpse Party or Pupa.

So how about you? Did you ever go through such a period? Do you like or hate such anime?

I would definitely enjoy some more violence in "regular" anime. One piece for example was way more violent back in the days.

I don't like gore porn aka violence for the sake of violence - there should be some reason for it, then I can enjoy watching it too. Gantz is my favorite manga, it had a lot of fucked up shit but it never made me uncomfortable since it always came with a wink.

I hate to use the term "I grew out of it," but nowadays I tend to steer clear of most kinds of instant-gratification devices in favor of more character-driven works.
I don't think affinity to violence in works of art is dependent on age. At any age, I had that curiosity to see limits of what is acceptable. So I've got the tendency to seek out and have a look at extreme and infamous representatives of any art form, but after that never return to lesser versions, because I didn't get to them because of the violence as such. Sounds confused? It maybe is. In a nutshell, I want to see the most violent anime because it exists, and then avoid violence within the same limits other posters pointed out (e.g. no gratuitous violence, lower threshold for sexualized violence etc,).

Another remark would be that I don't think violence is hardest to bear when it is most graphic and gory. For myself I found that psychological violence hits much harder. Examples would include A Kite and Gunslinger Girl. While both have their share of blood and guts, the part which disturbs me more is the psychological violence against (in both cases) young girls. Another form of violence I don't like to see is structural violence, i.e. justification of fascism. Examples: Crest of the Stars, and LotGH. And in both cases, that violence is completely without blood and gore.

To answer OP's question, do I "enjoy violence in anime"? Probably no, but it isn't in the way of enjoying good anime either. It's a case by case decision.

Violence in anime is definitely one of the things I like about it, yes. It's not the only thing I enjoy about it though, I'd prefer it if that violence was accompanied by a good story, and I don't particularly enjoy really graphic violence or torture.

yes man you're a real deal.....i don't get why modern anime go full ass censoring everything to the level of just showing blood is a taboo while other shows like GOT and others aren't censored at all ....i just don't get why people in real time TV shows get to do it but drawings don't while it should be the other way around....

Oh yeah, I totally get your stance. The reason I said "I hate to use the term" is because of how I know something like that could be interpreted. What I was ultimately trying to get at is that when I was younger, I would tend to gravitate towards movies or shows that had a lot of flashy action, violence, etc. just because it was "cool". Nowadays that kind of thing just doesn't appeal to me (regarding seeking content for that sole purpose, that is). There are plenty of shows I love that are violent to some degree, whether physically or as you said, psychologically/structurally. That's no deterrent for me, but that's never the main draw.

I love violence, gore, sadism, bloody action, any kind of cruel and insane actions interest me more about the behavior of humans and their way of thinking. (Whether it's related to the fictional characters or the author himself )

I used to love gorey anime, in fact, I'd argue that's what really got me into anime. But nowadays I'm a lot more sensitive towards gore.

I still like anime with it, but it's harder to watch. And it's not the only selling point to me for a show anymore.

It depends on how it is used and why. I surely like well animated battles or action scenes in general and my favorite genre is dark fantasy, but I don't like battles, action and blood for the pure sake of battles, action and blood.
I never liked really gorey anime or movies. It's not that I'm freaking out, because they might disgusting to look at, I just don't feel anything, if I'm not emotionally attached to it. I always got bored at the overuse of action scenes in hollywood movies etc as well.
