Well I certainly wouldn't say forced, however I have continued watching a few shows I grew to hate over time, but it depends on a few factors... - If I want to rip my face off watching it, I'm done with it. - If the suffering is short and I really want to thoroughly eviscerate a show from start to the end, I might complete it. - If the torment has been long and drawn out already, I might watch until they finally complete the arc they started on 300+ episodes prior and then never ever ever watch another single episode again. Don't care how good it gets, don't care who they kill, don't care how great the manga is. I'm done with it as well. |

If it's awful it's in the sense that I'm not enjoying it in the slightest and, honestly, I have far better ways to waste my time while having fun, than spending any time on something that is the exact opposite of fun. Short answer: no. |

I'm not the type of person who drops anime and I tend to watch some shitty anime to see how shit they are for my enjoyment. I haven't watched infinite straos so I'll try watching it. |

I mean, considering what you mostly watch, I don't think you'll feel like you're forcing yourself to watch it, even tho the 4th season's art style is kinda shitty. |

No, not really, no masochistic tendencies whatsoever. I'd rather spend my time watching something I can truly enjoy. Exceptions if something is super short or so bad it's funny I guess ? |

Sometimes bad content brings good enjoyment....although i cant say thats happened a lot But yeah mainly when i pick up anime i dropped just so i can finish it |

I enjoy going out of my confort zone and broading my horizons so I don't mind watching some stuff I know I won't like just to criticize it (fREE!, Boku no Pico Academia, etc.) but I'm no masochist so I never give it a high priority. |

lowkey do it to bring down my mean score and become more elitist Yea there are some shows where it's pretty obvious they're gonna stay consistent in tone throughout like GJ-bu, so idk why I still stook with them even though they were bad. Just in it for the lulz at that point |

No. I usually end up dropping/never finishing animes I find terribly boring. I rather watch an anime I'm really interested in than suffering through an anime that makes me bored out of my mind |

When you finish all the good ones the mediocre just doesn't cut it for me. I'd rather watch the other end of the spectrum cuz they are different in their own awful nature. |

Well, that's why I'm trying to give it a chance. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised in that the show actually has some redeeming qualities and that me harping on how terrible of an impression that I get from harems for the past five years were actually unwarranted. But because I find the concept of "your run-of-the-mill pervert who does nothing productive with his life, peeping on women and dreaming of having his own harem one day" being very unattractive, I still have my preconceived notions with a fairly strong feeling that I'd just be wasting my time. Besides, not everyone is willing to spend the time to watch over 1,500 shows just to know if each one caters to their taste or not. Sometimes a written synopsis and past experience with the genre are telling enough, more so than people who meet my obnoxiousness with being cantankerous as if one is a lesser evil over another. You watch anime for entertainment so why watch something just to torture yourself? It sounds silly for me, but it's a different case if you watch anime for money or maybe you find excitement from watching something awful, who knows. |

I watch plenty of bad anime, but I don't really see it as torture. If I can find some aspect of the show enjoyable (such as a single character, a relationship, a character's power, the series' music, etc), even if it's a small part of the show, I can still enjoy it for what it is; something to kill time. |

If I truly hate a show, I'll drop it. However, I have forced myself to finish some shows I was not really into because I already got this far and might as well finish the last two episodes so I can add another anime to my completed list. |

I'm not big on ecchi harems myself, but DxD is honestly one of the better ones in terms of actual plot and production. I mean, it's clearly not mindblowing material. It just isn't utterly abysmal like most other harems. I think it goes downhill quick from the third season on, though. The fourth season in particular is indeed all-around abysmal and completely lacks the charm of the first two seasons. That could just be me disliking the change to an even more generic art style, getting tired of the story/characters, and the shit production, but whatever. |

That could just be me disliking the change to an even more generic art style, getting tired of the story/characters, and the shit production, but whatever. Replace a few key words and that's how I can describe the ecchi shows that grew on me over time, after initially being extremely skeptical of it and denounced ecchi as often as I denounce harems. So at this point, I could ask if the harem aspects can be somewhat ignored and if they just string things together because the characters are exceptionally charming; particularly if the female cast is more than just a collection of scantily clad bimbos who just lust after Issei's dick for 12 episodes, or if DxD is basically like either Ikkitousen, Freezing, Senran Kagura, or Highschool of The Dead in terms of action scenes but just has more harem shit than what I'm used to... but I might as well stop wondering, set aside the five hours for a season, just watch a damn season already, and then exercise for an extended period of time to avoid feeling like a complete weeaboo scumbag since interacting with the target audience for harems is another reason for why I post "fuck harems" ad nauseam so those fuckin' weirdos know to leave me alone. |

Some series are so bad that they're actually fun to watch. I just sit down and try to comprehend what were they thinking when they created such an awful product. |

So, I have no idea if your list is accurate, but with you being an old user, and from what you're saying, I'm gonna assume it is. But you don't seem to have watched much harem, basically none. So all of this dislike of yours is nothing more than impressions and preconceived notions. It's obviously fine to have these. But to shove them down other people's throats in basically every thread? You don't see people going I LOVE THIS SHOW IT'S THE BEST, GOD PRAISE ALL ISEKAI, and then reveal they actually haven't seen the show they talk about, let alone much/any of its genre, because it's stupid, exactly like what you're doing. Of course you don't have to watch everything, but you don't have to create a baseless opinion on every damn thing you haven't watched. I'm sorry, but what is it that you're expecting when making posts that are obviously confrontional, and yes, I'm gonna say it, baits - because there is absolutely zero other reason to flaunt your negative impressions of an anime at every occasion? You're entitled to feel that way, but spamming your unsupported ideas like this is just being provocative. People are gonna get cantankerous , especially if it involves the thing they love. And if you actually have seen enough of harem in anime to have a strong opinion about it, why won't you at least provide your reasoning to generalizing a whole genre and why you dislike it so much? "Fuck harems", honestly. What's the fucking point? The genre is clearly not for you, but if you feel the need to share your opinion so much, at least make it elaborate. This forum would have been an absolute cesspool if everyone went and just kept shouting what they dislike or think they dislike everywhere, no matter how relevant to the thread. I'm not gonna go and keep repeating I hate Ikkitousen and its caricature characters at every chance I get, and I definitely won't say Isekai Cheat Magician is absolute trite garbage until I see it, no matter how sure I am of my impression. Give the show a try, if your're willing of course, maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. Probably not, with your inherent disagreement with the harem elements, and after that long of expecting to hate it, it's sure to have an impact on your experience. Until then, your opinion of it just holds no value. I peronally believe there's enough common room with Freezing to like both (though personally I wasn't a fan of freezing, the second season and its absolutely disgusting portrayal of abuse in s2 left a bad taste with my mouth too) and I don't even see how a true harem is that much different from the Lana and Satelizer situation. But there are some cool fights, torn clothes and big tiddies. The common element of the things you mention. |

@Imaishi: Look, I see what you're trying to do, and it would be a great tactic against someone who cares as much about anime as you do. But here's the thing: I'm just not that guy. I stopped caring about keeping up with anime many years ago, and I'm basically still around to kill time and maybe, one a very rare occasion, look for something to watch. My MO with these forums is to basically say whatever I want (within reason), not go through threads with a self-righteous indigence and directly quote and reply to every little thing a person says that I don't agree with. I rather let let sleeping dogs lie. So you trying to make an example out of me being a jackass probably isn't really working as you intended, 'cause honestly, I don't care if people disagree with me and talk some shit about what I'm into because haters are always going to hate. And I also don't care if people agree with me given my past interactions with ecchi fans that were significantly more enthusiastic about the genre than I ever was to put it nicely. So I hate to break it to you, friend, but, you're not the first type-A personality that I've come across on the internet, and I'm not going change my posting habits just because you, within the six years that I've been denouncing the harem genre and counting, have a problem with it. If you're that deep into your feelings about it, you're better off just adding me to your ignore list so you'll never have to see me say "fuck harems" ever again. It's that simple. Problem solved. God's in his Heaven, all's right with the world. Now excuse me while I attempt to craw into this DxD dumpster fire. |
