I found meaning to it when I met kind hearted people that made all my pain go away. You don't need money to have a good time.~

Yeah it's pretty pointless in the grand scale. You can still try to make the best out of it tho. Might as well enjoy your limited time alive.

Even if there was some sort of ultimate meaning, that doesn't necessarily mean that would have any meaning to you as an individual. You could just as easily still think things are pointless. Just create your own meaning and purpose. Strive toward what you want to accomplish in life, and above all, enjoy it!

That's why I always smirk when people telling me that they bought their own house ...30-40 years of a mortgage, (^_^;) have fun paying!

In all honest.., you don't need a lot of money to enjoy things that you like, as long as "those things/interests" are reasonably limited to 1-2. When people are saying that they have a lot of interests/hobbies, Lol, what a waste of life/time that would be. ("Jack of all trades, master of none.")

Oh, the weekly "whats the meaning of life?!" thread. Some people dedicate so much time contemplating the meaninglessness of life that they never go out and live it.

Humans, like any other living creature, have to work in order to survive. Its just that now we earn our food pushing paperwork instead of chasing deer with a bone club. I think we have it alot better now.

Yes, life has no meaning.....Besides, I don't like working.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Nah not really in my case. The reason I live is mostly for material things and trying my best to be useful while my body and mind are still functioning.

Life is pointless, why? In the end, no human is immortal, 40 - 50 years from now you are going to find yourself barely being able to move, so what is the point?

What exactly do you mean by "meaning"? Where does it end and where does the "meaningless" begin?
I believe that during their life, people accept labels upon themselves: "human", "citizen", "straight", "gay", "uneducated", "professional", etc. Those labels form context for our interactions with society and are therefore useful, but they also restrict. Person who believes themself to be "gay" might misunderstand their affection towards a member of the opposite sex. Person, who believes themself to be "professional" might make a very basic mistake. When a person accepts more labels upon themself than they can currently handle, they might be overwhelmed and lose sight of what they are.
Try looking past a few "upper layers" of your labels. Find some piece of art that stirs some sort of response from you, be it a book, a melody or an anime. Try asking yourself why does it interest you, think and feel it through. No need to rush forward—taking a step back might be a better option. No need to be hasty—maybe it's time to deliberate. Find your interests, define your priorities, even if only temporarily. Explore yourself.

Meaning is a concept created by life forms. Different things have different amounts of meaning for different people. There can't be an inherent meaning to anything, it's always given.

If they didn't get the mortgage though they'd be paying their rent otherwise until they die working till , death which is shit , is it not better to be as quick as possible,

If u have a few hobbies yeah it's not to much , I like gaming anime reading and writing which cost hardly anything,

Dude, that's just you(and others like you), I only mentioned my own preferred ways, plus, I move quite often from one place to another, and rent is way cheaper than paying for the mortgage(especially if you're just a roommate like I am).

Also, in order to get a decent mortgage, you need to have a kickass job and work from dawn till dusk so you can only sleep at your lovely place, so...no thanks I've already spent my whole youth(and further) working my ass off to pay off my debts and my sports cars (which I don't have them anymore, due to high gas prices and insanely high insurance costs, even with my clean driving record).

All in all, "Flag into your hands!" and good luck with your mortgages, and Godspeed to you sir!

@Jp124 I see, that seems like a complex problem. I think the fact that you try to figure out this situation and ask other people for advice and opinions means that you still want and try to make things better, and I think that it's a good thing, don't forget to rest well though. I feel like i lack competence and information to give you any concrete advice, but I do wish you good luck!

Existential theist: yes it was, welcome to our church.

Existential atheist: no, but we can create our own purpose in life.

Absurdist: life has no inherent meaning, it's absurd, but we should endure nevertheless.

Nihilist: fak all of you!!
....

in the end, even the most pessimist ones ironically still create their purpose with such identity branding

The meaning to life is a stupid ass problem if there ever was one. Meaning is assigned. There is no meaning to a clock except to the user of that clock for a particular use that he designates. There is no meaning to a word where there are no people to invent that meaning. There is no meaning in any physical phenomenon until someone models it. So what makes life the magical exception where meaning has to be given to you?

If God told you your purpose in life is to suck your own dick, would you just accept it (oh, okay...), or would you exercise your own volition anyways?

i think that the meaning of human life is in the fact that we can think and learn and relate to others in ways that no other living thing can

as for the meaning of life in general, i've got no idea. no clue why it all began, but i think it's pretty cool that we (all living beings) have come so far

To be sentient means that you are one of the few organisms able to bestow value on existence. Part of that experience is judging what meaning is and whether the subject of your attention satisfies your definition. By asking others if there is meaning, you are neglecting your own agency as a conscious witness to reality.

No, but even if objective meaning could be discovered somehow, nothing would change. People would just do what is in their own interest regardless.
So let's try to enjoy what we have and get along, we already struggle enough with this simple task.

If you believe in the afterlife then I don't think that your life is pointless. From my perspective I think that our current life is a test, let's just stay that someone during his lifetime was a sinner then that means that he didn't pass the test and will be sent to hell. I believe it's something like that, but I always have at the back of my mind that all this, our life, has no meaning whatsoever.

But the afterlife is pointless if you don't believe in the afterafterlife, which in turn is pointless without the afterafterafterlife, and so on, but since I suck at induction, I'll leave the rest of it as a homework excercise.

Here are some hints though:

There's no like, inherent meaning in life that's set in stone. You gotta decide/find your own meaning in life. It's like a sketchbook. yeah, there's nothing on the page, but that's because you're supposed to draw stuff in it.

There is no objective meaning to life.

But there are plenty of subjective meanings to life you can choose to take to heart.
You are not your body, you are your brain, the "self" that emerges from within it.

The meaning to life... is to carry on the universe for some unknown reason.
So, there is a meaning but, carrying out that meaning seems pointless in itself.
We're basically destroying the planet, let's be honest, so why would we live to keep destroying the planet.
Genuinely, why do we live... it makes no sense.

It really comes down to your outlook on life. The meaning or no meaning of it all comes down to the person of that life.

Personally, I could easily see it as pointless and sometime when I'm down I will but overall I make meaning out of it through friends and family, pets, my own personal goals and doing the things I enjoy like video games, anime and traveling.

Yes there is, it is for society to discover, eventually, as much of the multiverse's secrets as possible. You can give meaning to your life by just thinking about these things.
