| In my case the first animes I saw were Hellsing and Elfen Lied, and in fact they are two of my favorite animes of all time. I believe that the animes that introduce you to this world make you have a special affection for them. |

| "Not including Pokémon"? Does Digimon count then? Beyblade? Sailor Moon? DBZ? FMA (2003)? The majority of the cartoons I liked as a kid turned out to be anime, so I'm not sure what my first anime even is... The first anime I watched online was Chobits and I always thought it was boring... but I didn't have anything else to do. After that I watched Rurouni Kenshin, which was the first anime I was a fan of. Kyoto arc is still amazing, but the series quality is so inconsistent that it's not on my favorites. Sure, Trust & Betrayal is on my favorites list, but I only got around watching that much later. tl;dr: No. |
| Aside from Pokemon, which I still love to this day, my first anime was One Piece. I still love One Piece even though I decided to stop watching the anime last year for various reasons. So, to answer your question: yes, some of my favorite anime were the first ones I watched. |
| Excluding mainstream shows and my first couple of series (Bleach, SAO, and Fairy Tail), my first anime was Soul Eater. I enjoyed about 99% of it, and that last 1% is why it never made it onto my favorites list. |

| I always wonder that. Should we all consider the partial series that we watched on tv as kids as our "first anime"? Or should we consider the first series that we completed beginning to end as our "first"? The first anime I watched on tv in the 2000's was pieces of Inuyasha, Pokemon, Yugioh, Futari wa Precure. But the first anime I actually checked out because of interest was Death Note, and it's still in my top ten favourites. I was an emo internet kid and thought it looked edgy lol it was. |

| My first anime I watched was Pokemon, and its one of my favorite franchises to this day. About a few years before I really got into anime, a friend introduced me to Ouran Highschool Host Club, and I liked it a lot. My family and I also watched Howl's Moving Castle during a family movie night, so I have fond memories of that. About three and a half years ago was when I really got into anime, my first anime then was Code Geass. While I do recognize the flaws in it today, I still greatly enjoy it and its still absolutely one of my favorites. In all honesty though, I'm terrified to re-watch it, as I fear that seeing it with a new set of eyes will only allow me to see it as a mediocre piece of work. |

| I grew up watching anime. I was probably watching anime before I even entered school. So I'm not sure what my first anime was, but I believe it was Sailor Moon. And, no, I would not say that Sailor Moon is one of my favorites, though I also haven't seen it in years, so who knows maybe it will become one of my favorites after I re-watch it--it was one of my favorites, if not my favorite, when I was growing up. The first anime I saw when I really started getting into anime--knowingly--was probably either Starry Sky or Black Rock Shooter--neither of which made it as one of my favorites. But the first mainstream anime I saw--aside from the anime I grew up watching--was Fairy Tail and I actually would probably call Fairy Tail one of my favorites. And I think Fairy Tail was actually the anime that really got me into anime or, at the very least, started me on the journey. |

| the first Anime i watched was Highschool DxD because yeah i was a kid and YouTube + sexy thumbnail =click XD But this really changed my life.if i wouldnt have watched hdxd i would still say Anime is for Kids.because when i watched hdxd i really felt very good and i couldnt stop.i rewatched hdxd season 1-.3 3 times in 2 weeks before i started my second Anime:clannad.this one gave me the rest and i knew i could never stop watching Animes anymore. NOW my top 3 Animes ive ever completed(out of (just)109) 1.HDXD 2.Clannad 3.Angel Beats!(10th Anime i completed) so YES the first Anime ive saw is still one of my favorites xD Koneko and Asia are better than Rias and Akeno :))) |

A very obscure OVA that I happened to get a VHS of for free from Suncoast or Walden's Books. I forget which, or even WHY they gave a 10 year old it. But yeah... needless to say it is not one of my favorites. Hell, I completely forgot about it's existence before reading this thread. |
