So readers are left guessing whether all of this is just a delusion or not, anyways I like the fact that it was an happy ending even if it's not clear whether all of this real or not.

Both those guys deserved to end together and they eventually did it's just a little bit sad that they have only 3 days.

Doesn't this have 16 chapters? Forget it. I thought Miyagi had disappeared but it shocked her back and that was a good thing. the good ending is the original story.

I wanted to like this. The concept itself was intriguing, Raw narration and beautiful artwork. What went wrong? Idk. Perhaps the mundane character itself irked me because I wanted something to happen. Perhaps I was waiting for some Makoto Shinkai to come off of the pages and reach me, but it didn't. A relatable character really-yet everything he does is detestable, his thinking, the course of his actions, the way he treated others. The girl he was with Miyagi, her story was interesting. Yet that chapter 8.5 rubbed me the wrong way despite understanding her reasoning. I could not stand the part of her character when she lied and deceived him, despite knowing her past and her character flaws. Perhaps that says more about me than about her, nonetheless, it was distasteful.

The ending itself..it wasn't the power of love that saved them, but in a way companionship was something that humans seek in their last days. They both decided to have three last days together would be better than living a life full of despair. To him, selling 30 years of his life was the best decision he had ever made. The decision to sell the last few days of his life to save Miyagi, he forfeited his fame. For her, she forfeited her future without him which is foreshadowed to be lived in mundane despair.

But also, in the last chapter, it explored the possibility that he had made up Miyagi up all along that maybe he was dying and that he needed some reason to feel comfort, love, and warmth in his last days. For me, these type of endings are cheap shots. If this was added for the effect to sound philosophical, I am not amused.

Perhaps the tragic story itself invoked in me this dreaded feeling of despair. But I have read some depressing works that delt with similar topics like Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan edit or Tokidoki, yet they don't give me this dreaded feeling. I don't know, but for now..6/10. And in my book that reads: nothing happened.

I'm pretty sure that is the intended reaction/feeling the author wants to give, so you can ask yourself what matters to you or in other words what do you really want? Will your answer make you happy and satisfied, even if you only have 3 days left to live?

Although I get where you're coming from, idk why you're feeling dreaded means something is wrong with this manga.

Wel that's a fine read, in all my honesty it's surprsingly isn't that depressing as many people said, or maybe because i read smt worse than this.
Still it makes me sad how he didn't at least meet his parents or family before he go or maybe i was missing something and he already lost his parents.
I also wonder how their surrounding react when they are gone (Especially her childhood friend), since he also made a lot of friends because his actions with Miyagi.
In the end, i could say it's an enjoyable short manga and worth my time i guess, still i think no matter what happen people should value their lives more..

Definitely one of the most beautiful manga I've read. It's simultaneously heartbreaking and encouraging. The ending is bittersweet, but still absolutely great. Although the art is kind of amateurish, it's still very enjoyable. Overall, a fantastic read. An easy 10/10 for me.

Very bleak, and while some bits were good, others seemed like misery porn. I agree on the point that the value others assign to us, based on achievements and contributions is quite relative to what we perceive as being valuable in our lives. In that sense, the former conman from the side story had things more figured out.

I had trouble empathizing with Kusunoki in general. It was a choice, one doesn't need to put in effort if they don't want to, but just by being in an early 20s rut during college isn't a situation where someone, strapped a bit for money, would end up selling the rest of their life. Unless, there were some other circumstances. We didn't learn anything about Kusunoki's family or relatives, and being bullied seemed like others were just keeping their distance because he seemed standoffish and had a false sense of superiority. Also, I found the part where his sudden near-death inspiration
.

Miyagi was cute. I kind of wish her relationship with Kusunoki was a bit more subtle, though. It's probably because of the format and how short the manga is, but I guess there wasn't too much leeway to remedy how things worked out between them. In the end, I wish this manga was more about finding a meaning to go on instead of enjoying what's left. As previously said, it's a choice to give up, since not everyone has the same inner strength, but I think the direction things were going could've been better.

It is hard to find the right words for this.
That is to say, I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly did not expect that ending.

At the end of it all, I m quite pleased with the manga, but I won't hide that I expected it to be darker or meaningful in a way that would impact me even more.

It is a short manga, maybe if it had way more chapters to slowly build stuff, I could have felt the ending more.
They truly never explained this crazy system till the end, the concept itself it totally silly and beyond any realism, I would rather have something more grounded and credible, something one would be able to sync with better.

Also, I really do feel the fan-translation to be lacking at times, since some shit just doesn't make much sense, but it was still able to convey the message... really, what a couple of fools, but at least they went out with a bang, but if anything, this ending is bitter than sweet, but that also is just a matter of perspective.

A movie adaptation one day would be very welcomed.

The last extra chapter was really cool too, that old man with presumably his daughter?!
What he said there to that old man, BOSS.
Hope is has a good life indeed.

I don't know, man, after snoring through Serial Experiments Lain's clusterfuck and drifting through this, I wonder if I've outgrown highschool philosophy. I've watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, I've read Fate/stay night, I've read Plato's The Republic, now everything is swirling about in the same subterranean geysers Japan's been fracking since Miyazaki yawned.

And what worse? These short stories have the audacity to toss out their existential musings for supernatural romance. The AUDACITY.

I joke... sort of, but not so much on the last point. This was lovely as a quaint story about the meaning of time in gray morality, and the character arc with Himeno definitely struck a chord, and shit, it was also good as a supernatural romance. But I'm not sure that at a mere 3 volumes it could justify being both. Honestly, I kind of feel blue balled. The vibe of the first two volumes ebbed away for a Maeda-ian romance. And I fucking love Jun Maeda.

Depending on how deeply Miyagi and Kusunoki's bittersweet conclusion imprints itself in my internal reflections, I could see myself forgiving the jarring transition over time, but right now I'm ambivalent.

One thing is certain: this would make for a remarkable film adaptation and be a hell of a lot better than A Silent Voice to boot.

Managed to finish the light novel in a few days. A great read focusing on what truly makes an individual happy. Overall, I found this enjoyable. Although, I think 20 years old is still too young to give up. I wish this was slightly longer to show more of Miyagi and Kusonoki's relationship progress during month 2. I also wish that the novel continued further past their final 3 days to see whether this was all some sort of "test" for people that sell their life spans where they can somehow live in the end. I guess we'll never know.

I feel like this would make a solid film.

i'm confused over one thing, didn't the mc mentioned that he sent a mail back to Himeno replying hers? So then why did she say he left her alone in her time of need? he was reaching out to her. It seems to be they both thought they were ignoring each other but they really weren't, this led to the mc being depressed and Himeno being hateful to him

The letter Himeno wrote was just about how she was busy with studies and other things so he didn’t think much of it and wrote a letter similar back. He didn’t realize what the letter actually meant till after they met.

This was a decent ending, it went sideways because Kusunoki decided it would be in his best interest to drink a bottle of cliche. But I won't say it is terrible.

Overall this was a very nice story. I liked this quite a bit and I and glad I spent time on this after I left this on ptr for the longest minute.

(Mc sent the mail)~ Yep....And that's when our MC fucked up ~ (Acc. to Himeno).
To put it simple , Kusunoki wasn't able to read the pain and sufferings of Himeno in that letter and so he simply responded formally to her formal letter.

It is very true that Himeno really loved Kusunoki but she was also a very typical immature stubborn girl.... So she wanted Kusunoki to approach her first. Even though they promised each other to meet at their 20s.... She was the one who really wanted to meet him then and there and wanted to cry on his shoulders.

Basically Himeno was not someone who would write a straight forward formal letter to someone like Kusunoki whom she always loved & taunted too with her sarcastic comments , since childhood.

But the thing is...That day , there were no such sarcastic comments or taunts in her letter. That letter was plain as lolies. She thought that this would be the best sign she could give to Kusunoki that she's in pain and that she needs him.
But as I told earlier, Our MC wasn't able to read all those signs in that moment, when his own life was fucked up.... And for that Himeno started hating him more than anyone in this world.

And finally when they met each other in the restaurant, she decided to kill herself in front of him from the same tower where once Kusunoki saved her life.... As her Revenge.

But Of course the timeline changed bcoz of Our MC telling everything to Himeno beforehand, about his low and pitiful life that he sold just for mere ten thousand yen.... And so Himeno felt the same for Kusunoki as his story, that is pitiful....
But after knowing all this she was glad that he's also suffering just like she is.
And So She changed her mind, wrote a letter for Kusunoki, gave it to the waiter and left the restaurant silently hoping for his story to come true.

Hope It'd helped you....PEACE....👐🏻🤘🏻

Male MC was unlikable, hard to really get into the story when I really felt nothing for the guy. Is it a Japanese thing to force the debts of parents onto their minor children? Your spouse I can see but her being forced to serve time because her mother died while on the job reeeally rubbed me the wrong way. Story itself was fine but the characters not so much.

Well so, in the end, Himeno was the one getting the shortest end of the stick.
Because she decided to not throw her hate feelings directly into MC's face and then kill herself in front of him, but just went and killed herself alone.
Well, the story didn't show or tell, but it is clear that she did.
I would've preferred her to open her heart and exchange feelings with MC, and then cinematicly kill herself like she had intention to do. Would've been better imo.

Speaking of not showing or telling, the manga did us dirty with the "open" ending.
We don't know how the story really went.
Since nothing got shown, not even a gravestone.
We got an extra story about someone else deciding to not waste their time and treasure their life even if it was worthless until that point.
In a way like the last 3 days of Kusonoki and Miyagi.

So one can interpret it like this: the extra story as a metaphor of what the protagonist did in the end.
A little earlier in the story, they said they could do up to 3 transactions, and each of them did 2.
So let's say they went back and did the final transaction, aka buy their life back, at the new price of their new happy and fullfilling one that was expecting them for 3 days, so they probably indebted themselves by millions of yen each.
And then living happily ever after, for decades. And still die together, mind you. The convenience of buying back a fixed amount of time =D

There's also option 2, the dramatic romantic one where they just die together with a smile in 3 days, but honestly, if that was the real end, the author would've illustrated it fully.
The fact they didn't makes me suspect the end is actually the option 1 I said in the paragraphs above.

There's also option 3 aka the whole thing is just fake and was meant to make people appreciate their life instead, but that's lame. So no.

A thing I would also have liked to see: an example of someone who sold their health. We had people selling time, and life, but no one selling health. I'm curious now.
I guess they would be, like, some hella rich people with an eyepatch and on a wheelchair (so they sold the sight from one eye and their capability to use their legs), or something like that.

Not sure why some people view this as an open ending. It's pretty obvious that they're going to die in 3 days and are going to spend their final days happy and without regrets. I definitely did not need to see a grave or their corpses to get confirmation on this, lol. Ending on a hopeful, positive note made way more sense thematically.

Very nice story about the value of life. 3 happy days with your loved one matter way more than 30 years of misery. Should be obvious, but I liked the way it was portrayed here.

Don't really understand why some people see this as an open ending. The guy in this extra chapter did the complete opposite of kusonoki. The extra chapter is meant to show us that there is really no reason to sell your lifespan.

You got a dark future? Low price, not even worth selling.
Got a bright future? Why would you even sell that?

Kusonoki on the other hand sold his life when it's dark (30 years) AND bright (30 days). Just to show how contrasting these two ppl are. That's all i got from the extra chapter.

I was not expecting a romance in this manga and was kind of disappointed that it went in that direction. But Miyagi and Kousonoki were really cute together. I was hoping for an ending where it was all just in his imagination or there was a secret rule where if the person achieves true happiness they and their observer get freed from the shackles of the deal so it was sad to see the ending end the way it did, even if they were happy at the end. Either way, it was a good story, definitely could be adapted into a movie.

Finally got to reading this and loved it.

Up until the last chapter I was expecting that, he will reach his final day, waiting to die and then the day passes and he doesn't die and eventually he finds out that all that was just a scheme to make people value life again and help them by giving them some money, so after the 3 months end, the person won't die but go on to live with a new passion for life or I just thought in the end they would reveal that he was just a damn schizo and Miyagi was made up person in his mind etc. like the possibility was shown in one of the chapters.

Anyway, this really was beautiful, when I saw that there was gonna be an observer, that itself was screaming love and heartbreak and I was prepared for it.

Some stuff was quite depressing to learn about both Miyagi and Kusonoki, Miyagi's past and present both were quite shit, she had to sell off her time with no fault of her own, had to give up on relationships and being ignored was the norm for her. Kusonoki's would-have-been future was very fucking depressing to hear about and then when we learnt that Himeno started hating Kusonoki and was going to kill herself in front of him, that was just too much.

But in the end when Miyagi and Kusonoki developed feelings for each other and started enjoying their life, it was the best. I didn't expect Kusonoki to be so aggressive and just go for holding hands and kissing. Loved the scenes where Kusonoki would give up the right side of the bed but later loved to see when they both slept embracing each other.

The ending was really good in my opinion, I didn't really expect Miyagi to sell off her lifespan as well, I'm just a little mad that they didn't show us how they spent their last 3 days, the 16.5 chapter gave me a lot of hope that maybe they are gonna show us the last 3 days but oh well.

Overall the relationshp development between Kusonoki and Myagi was beautiful and I'm happy for the decision they took and I'm sure they had a blast spending those last 3 days together.

Though Imma have to admit, I didn't shed a single tear, that's qute suprising actually.

10/10 overall, can't find anything to deduct points for. This was a great short read, read it while flying, was a great time pass.

O absolutely fucking Loved the part in chapter 18.5. When the old dude said your past doesn't have any bearing on your current lifespan value. Bc whatever you have done, no matter how detestable your actions or character Were, there is always room for you to grow! you can always become a better version of yourself and treat the people around you better. Repair any relationships that you lost. Truly become happy.

ok this may not apply to everyone. If your parents died and the only thing you can do is risk your life killing devils for basically nothing, then idk how happy you can be. But for other like me who have people they can rely on or still have dreams left to conqer.

I believe in you

pretty disappointed by this manga...I quickly got tired of the characters and didn't find them interesting or compelling at all. the male MC in particular is so forgettable and dull he might as well not exist.

the characters were even worse when they spontaneously fell in love and turned the story into an "I'm 14 and this is deep" version of romeo and juliet. gotta say I did not feel the romance in the air when MC fell for the girl he was considering raping like a week earlier (or maybe more I was not paying attention to the timeline).

it feels like the author tried to hide how superficial their commentary about life is by making the story as meandering and random as possible. for real, vending machines? randomly making a friend group because you're weird in public? MC is a genius master artist? it all just left me not giving a single fuck about the lovebirds' imminent deaths
