Mikoshiba Mikoto from Gekkan shoujo nozaki kun(he is cool but always regret about what he did to be cool)
Takemoto Yuuta from hachimitsu to clover (he is like many college student, who is not rich, not very talented/just so so, want to run away from reality, but he is trying hard to become better)

I've never really been a "character" person. I normally just look at them as tools, imaginary agents, or vessels through which the plot can be facilitated, and I find myself thinking "I like the dynamic between these two characters" or "I appreciate this character's role in the overall narrative" more than I think "Wow, I really like this one character." It just seems kinda weird and reductionist to me.

That said, I've always been fond of the protagonist of Devilman (for being what I'd consider an idealized and more optimistic version of myself), the protagonist of Golden Boy (for being the first, one, and only protagonist of a harem series to actually make me laugh), and Misato from Evangelion (for being the most likable character in the show, and for serving as my lens throughout the whole series).

I couldn't give you a specific archetype that I find interesting, because archetypes are almost inherently uninteresting.

- Extremely loyal type who try to never show their bad side to one person but can get ruthless to those who try to hurt that person.
- Characters that are so funny to the point just seeing them or hearing their voice will make you want to laugh
- Responsible cold characters who others find scary but actually have a soft side to them (definitely not tsunderes and not overdone kuuderes either)
- Unpredictable sadistic characters with villainous intent (as long as they are not involved in romance)
- Female characters with a strong personality

For females, i like the ones who have some type of quirky nature. Like Senjougahara Hitagi from Monogatari Series. All females in my favorite character list have something like that.

As for males, i dont really have any preferences but i absolutely hate characters like Shiro Emiya from Fate Series (Eren Yeager is exception though)

Other than typical sexual explicit characters, I find Whitebeard or Edward Newgate to be a honorable mention despite not added to my fav char list. I think he managed to live life the way he want it to be and it's inspiring to see in my opinion.

I'd say main characters who make things happen. I like it when Shiroe from Log Horizon brings democracy and earns all the money. I like it when Papika from Flip Flappers runs headfirst into adventure.
Anybody can be the strongest. What matters is, what are you doing with your strength? "Protecting the status quo" is a boring answer.

I also find interesting characters who have unusual thought patterns. Like Kajiwara Sora who notices a lot more things than her friends, or Gasai Yuno who solves every problem with murder, or Morita Mayu who is so lost in thoughts that she never gets to speak.

For specific ones:
El Psy Kongroo - because the contrast with his counterpart in 0 is really amusing.
Biri-biri - the first medium level VIOLENT TSUNDERE I ever liked. It's interesting because I don't get why I liked her.
For ranged ones:
ANY bishounen that isn't you-know-like shoujo manga male lead who is trying to act cool and wreck up the heroine but ended up happy anyway. XD

I'm starting to get embarrassed by my own forum signature line.. XD

that's interesting, because for me characters are the main driving point of the story most of the time(with exeptions) and without interesting character I can't find myself to continue a series.

well when yout think about it, a character is just a bunch of ideas and themes mixed together to serve a story, but I still love character developement and growth.

The more complex a character is, the more enjoyable they are. I feel like if a character's intentions aren't laid out from the beginning, it creates an air of mysterious around them, and makes you want to keep watching. I also enjoy characters that are a product of their upbringing, whether it's caused them to hate the world or stand up for what they believe in.

In my opinion, the best kind of characters:
1) They have a dark past
2) They can be manipulative and not easily influenced
3) They have their own sense of justice

I'm talking about characters like Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin, he has a dark past, and as a result of that past, he is in search of redemption.
There's also Makashima from Pscho-Pass, he is manipulative, yet he is only branded a villain because he's doing what he believes is right.
And then there are characters like Itachi from Naruto who you have to spend days analyzing to understand, he did what he had to, sacrificed everything, got branded a traitor and yet his loyalty never wavered.

He's a well constructed character though. Like you aren't supposed to like what he does. It's good writing though

Literally all my favorite characters but they're a lot. If i had to say just one i would say Kokichi Ouma from DRV3 but the game doesnt have an anime adaptation like the other ones of the franchise.
So, if we are talking about just anime, maybe Eren Jaeger mainly because of the recent manga events that are yet to be adapted.

I also thought that he was very interesting at first but (for me at least) later in the manga he just gets boring and annoying. I also don't like what Hisoka does but I like him as a character.

Characters are more often than not, just pieces to a story. An extremely amazing character with no substance in the world is just a fancy prop. An average character in a world where they have more value, is a useful prop.
