| I’m pretty sure the majority are left-wing or at least some kind of libertarian, but I also don’t imagine many of them being fans of SJWs, either. I used to be a conservative myself, but I lean libertarian nowadays, and I sometimes contemplate becoming full-on anarchist. |
From what I've observed by spending many hours reading forum comments/responses (precious time that could have otherwise been well spent by reading gay porn), I've noticed that a vast majority of active MAL forum users are Left leaning. The Right wingers (esp the Far Right) are very few in number. I myself am an independent, btw |

| Everyone expects Anime fans to be extremely liberal so when anyone to the right of Mao pops up it gets noticed. Also 4chan culture is loud. Every anime fan I have met in real life was a turbo-lib. Then again, I think most conservatives are turbo-libs too. |

| Anime fans are definitely more liberal. Anime is primarily watched by young people and data shows that right now the vast majority of young people (this is all in reference to America of course) identify as Liberal. And that's not even taking into account that young people into anime are much more likely to be into internet culture; and those people aren't just liberal they tend to be radically liberal (because the whole echo chamber that amplifies everything to the point where they go from holding well meaning and possibly well thought out views to holding hateful and unbelievably stupid views). You do get a few incel anti-SJW trolls who are losers with no lives that have to try to get a rise out of people because they need to lash back out at the world to feel better even though it's 100% their fault (and nobody elses) that they have nothing going for them in life; but that's a very small group of anime fans. They seem larger than they actually are because as said they have no lives so the sheer volume at which they spew out crap compensates for their lack of numbers. Hell most of those people probably aren't even real Conservatives; they're just going after the easiest target. Although of those who actually are Conservative they go through the same thing Liberals on the internet go through except instead they turn into Alt-Right (sometimes even Nazi) trash. |
| i think it's just that a lot of anime fans are sheltered and haven't spent a lot of time around people not from the same background as themselves. i'm sure you could theorize about several ways those characteristics might be linked to being conservative. but at the same time I have to doubt top 10 lists on the internet and "research" found with 20 minutes of google searching. dosen't really prove anything one way or the either. i can believe that people THINK anime fans are conservative. |

As for the political stance of anime viewers or manga readers I think they'd be very similar to the rest of the population, HOWEVER anime and manga might make the viewer/reader a tad bit more conservative as Japan is in some ways more conservative than western countries which might make the viewer/reader want the western world to be more like Japan which means a tad bit more conservative. As for my personal stance on politics it's wildly different from the politics you usually hear about, but I won't bother elaborating unless you want some political discussion about my views going. |
