I was going from the Wiki, which states she was 19 and two years older than Ikta.

Stop. Calm yourself. You're an idiot.

Despite the abundant waving of Kanna's death flag, I was hoping she would survive. Alas, that was not bound to happen... A triumph accompanied by a bitter loss, an enthralling combination.

Then the wiki is wrong I guess ^^". If you add up the date, Ikta cannot be 17 at all. Remember as well, he graduated from high school almost one year ago :)

It say here Ikta first appearance is 17 years old. Official Anime Page or Japan Wiki, first appearance is during Imperial Segal Grand Academy so during episode 7 probably 18++

Around 18 means a bit before 18 or a bit after (IE, + or - a few :months). He's closer from becoming 18 than anything else, so since we don't know his exact birthday, that's kind of useless. He was around 18 at the start and now is around 19. :) hje was probably still 17 indeed and is now probably still 18, but there's no proof. BTW anime official pages are usually very unreliable for novel adaptation.
The anime starts in 905 and in 905 he becomes 18. Now the anime is in 906 and in 906 he becomes 19. The exact date is unknown.

Excellent episode.

My only complaint about this series, Why the hell are these superior officers made out to look so stupid? Makes me wonder how they even rose up the ranks. The first Lieutenant in this episode is an example of that.

Sadly this is pretty true to life espically in the past where being rich or related to someone powerful could buy you an officer's commision.

After last episode I expected Kanna to die, but to show her alive and kill her on end of episode... Geez... what a backstab.

There are many things that didn't make that much since in this episode. The first is why the mountain people would give up such an impressive fortress. It would take some serious siege equipment to bring that place down. The unit that took control of that place could easily have held out longer as long as there weren't any secret ways in, and even if they couldn't, they should easily have caused three times as many casualties on the other side.

Altitude Sickness is a serious thing, but that doesn't make much sense in this episode as well. They would have to be extremely high up for them to feel the effects, and there is almost no military reason to ever go that high up. The episode mentioned they were at 3600m, which is 12,000 feet. Mt Fuji is 3,776m or 12,382ft. Mt Fuji is a mountain a regular person can climb all the way to the top with little problem. People shouldn't be dropping like flies up there. If that post was at an even higher elevation, then why is there a fort there?

The environments above the tree line is generally unlivable for permanent living, so there is no reason for the military to go there. The towns of the mountain people should be at lower altitude, so that is where the military should attack and control. That is where the rebel army needs to get its food, or that incompetent general could just massacre the population if he really wanted to do that. That would draw the rebel army to attack him. If those towns are on the other side of the mountain, I wonder how the military even took control of the people in the first place.

I liked Kanna, she didn't deserved to die so soon.

I get some WW1 flavor from this anime, war and death because someone made a foolish choice.

ofcourse, a lot doesn't make sense. It's an anime, just leave it at that. Real war was and is actually pretty boring most of the time.

Godlike episode. But it is so sad that the most adorable girl in anime died,he was perfect character and had pretty smart appearence. As it was in Guilty crown and Zankyou no terror, the best characters are dying first.

RIP Kanna

Great (sad tragic) ending. You can't win them all. I'm glad this anime isn't just letting the hero save the day all the time.

Yeah, Kanna's death flag was at the part she discusses that she wants to meet with Ikea... Dang... Imo, she was one of the best characters in this anime... RIP

At first look this anime doesn't look that violent, every time I see blood I'm honestly surprised cause it has this 'Batman' vibe, with that I mean 'I'll beat them but won't kill them'. It's a shame Manna had to dies, Ikta must feel partly responsible for being unable to protect her, she could have been a great friend.

Ikta eating with Haro.
WTF Ikta. Why'd you grab his butt?
Kanna was married? WTF! How old is she?
They're trapped.
A sniper?
No one is moving in the fortress?
KANNA! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why did Kanna have to die? Now she gets to be with her husband.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

The overly optimistic empire attempted to quickly suppress the mountain people for political and resource gains, but were met with a literal uphill battle in addition to pseudo-trench warfare lasting far longer than the higher ups expected. That, and even acclimation issues due to fighting on unfamiliar territory? Seems like this series does, in fact, give a lot of thought into war and politics. Also, for all of Ikta's praise of science and technology, he can, in the breath, talk about how it can be weaponized for more efficient killing.

Regardless of whether Ikta could be defined as a good or bad person, this show is actually quite interesting for its take on warfare. I've seen some war anime go in-depth with tactics, while others go more into the actual battles. There are also those that get into the politics of war, while others talk about the emotional and physical impacts. Alderamin seems to try and combine all of this in a way that's surprisingly thoughtful, despite the show's short length.
