I gave 1.0 an 8, 2.0 a 7, and 3.0 a 6 I feel like it lacks a lot of the creepiness and character depth of the original. Also the animation using CGI really bothers me it takes me out of the anime world and reminds me I'm watching something drawn on a computer. The contrast between normal animation and cgi is just jarring. The hand drawn animation in the End of Evangelion is absolutely perfect., there is no comparison. The first one was interesting as it introduced new concepts like the alien on the moon, the sea being red, also expanding on some of the sci-fi aspects. The action was more epic, well paced, and smooth, and the angels were more thought out. But everything else was far more shallow and lacked the same creepy mysterious atmosphere that made the original series compelling. The second just felt like a dumber version of the second half of the show, with stupid characters like this kids next door girl who spouts nonsense about the rift of understanding between kids and adults. All it was was mindless action with a watered down story. The ending was so forced and stupid, the corny pop song playing in the background didn't help...at all. Still, it was an above average action anime. The third one wasn't even fun, I could barely pay attention, all I remember is the story was unrealistic and ended on a boring cliffhanger. The action wasn't even as good and it was stupid when an eva turned into a dog. Still production quality and action makes it slightly above average. nipaa~ ![]() |
I thought the rebuilds were better than the original. Better art, tighter narrative, less aimless experimentation. And 2.0 and 3.0 were my favorites of the rebuilds. ![]() |
3.0 was the worst one, half the things they were blaming shinji for weren't even his fault, it made no sense ![]() |

Rebuild of Evangelion is more accessible and action-packed than the original television series. It's not as well developed given the time restraints, though I think it manages to remain true to the spirit of NGE for the most part. More broad strokes compared to the fine details of the original series. But done well enough. It was nice to see Shinji and Rei evolve as characters, something that wasn't given much time in NGE. Although not a terrible film, You Can (Not) Redo was sort of a misfire. And the fourth film should be this: ![]() |
Protaku said: They need to hurry and make the last one. Not sure if there's coming back from this mess of a 3rd movie. There's a reason 4th one is not released all this time. I think Evangelion will become Half - Life 3 of anime. The only oppinion I have is how did they managed to mess up on the 3rd one after awesomeness that is the 2nd movie... ![]() |
Trash. Even the action is worse. Who needs directing or a sense of kinetic movement when we got videogame cutscene-tier CGI! ![]() |
You can (not) redo this series and make it good like EOE. EOE and the last part of episode 26 was the only good part of the franchise. This is just milking a bad show at this point. Writer: ohhh well maybe if I change this it will be good this time, HEE HEE HEE ![]() |
They are fun to watch but... 1.0 is pointless. Sure it looks pretty, and the new Ramiel is awesome, but none of it helps to tell the story better. 2.0 is cute. Nothing wrong with cute, except isn't this supposed to be Evangelion? 3.0 is a mess. I mean, they destroy the setting and leave you to wonder how and why anything is as it is for the whole movie. There is zero character development for anyone but Shinji (Characters have changed but we don't get to see why). Shinji is kept uninformed about stuff purely for plot convenience so that he will do something that those around him who are informed would know is a bad idea. Toward the end of the movie Shinji goes from someone who listens to what Kaoru has to say to someone who ignores him, at the same time Kaoru goes from someone who explains things to shinji to someone who doesn't for no reason (no reason except the writers needed Shinji to do something stupid again). I rewatched these movies after a few years of seeing them the first time and the only things I remembered from the 3rd one was Shinji and Kaoru playing piano and Shinji, Asuka and Rei walking together at the end. I must have scrubbed the rest of the movie from my mind. I mean how the hell did I totally forget about the Eva-airship-fortress-thing. ![]() Modified by WalrusFist, Jul 30, 2017 10:52 AM |
Pretty lackluster, just like the original show. ALthough I give bonus points to the second one for making Shinji less of a bitch ![]() |
in average they were fine but i prefer original series and above that the impressive manga. 2nd movie had it all to be the best one but Anno ruined it with his awful music taste ![]() |
Not nearly as great as the original series and EoE were. I liked them, I enjoyed them, but weren't that ride that I took with the series and the movie. The mental breakdown moments are somehow replaced with an action packaged movie that could be made by Michael Bay. The visuals are gorgeous but I dislike the fact that it lost the original message and the original character psychology that defines it. But ofc I'm waiting for the forth one. ![]() |
The rebuilds - especially 2.0 - are definitely better looking but they are just not what 'evangelion' was originally about... I mean they seriously lack the psychological and emotional aspects of the original series and EoE. Personally I really loved both the original 26 ep and EoE but the rebuilds (3.0 was a mess through and through) just not there. Still looking forward to seeing the 4th XD ...just hope they don't go overboard with the CG ![]() Modified by CapedBaldy-sama, Dec 21, 2018 1:30 AM |
the show is so iconic the movies were never gonna top it but they have fantastic animation and imo better action scenes especially the 3rd movie ![]() |
there's a ton of wasted frames and scenes on the 3rd movie, it tries to be weird, logical, abstract but it instead becomes a mess. I'm disappointed in it tbh, the other movies I haven't watched yet so I can't say for sure if they're good or not. ![]() i will eliminate the middle class 4head bruh moment |
1 and 2 are mostly fine. 3 can burn in hell. ![]() "When you meet your God, tell him to leave me alone." |
